How many teams make sectionals in Class A? If it is only 8 teams anythoughts on Mendon missing sectionals for the first time ever? I know the loss to Eastridge was a surprise but who knows whats next? What is going on over there?

AQ dropped one last night to Liverpool 1-0. I think that loss locks up the #1 seed for Sutherland. I know HFL is 10-1 but they play to many small schools for point.

I think you'll see a Sutherland / AQ final. Game on turf i'll take AQ. Game on grass I'll take Sutherland.

Aquinas is unranked because they have two losses to larger (enrollment) schools and tied an unranked team, Victor, in their own size classification, is my guess.

Mendon has had some injuries, particularly to their best player, Steve Suozzi, who is finally able to be back playing. I'm thinking Mendon will win most of their remaining games, with perhaps the exception of the Sutherland rematch, and will easily qualify for sectionals, if Suozzi stays healthy and no one else goes down. I don't think they're likely to make it past the semi-finals however.

Predicting sectional winners is a waste of time. I remember 1999 when Jeff Diveronica had pretty much awarded the sectional title to Aquinas in the newspaper the day before. He probably was going based upon the first game of the season in which Aquinas beat Sutherland 5-1. So Aquinas was perhaps a little over confident, and also not aware that Sutherland was missing four or five starters in that first game. Sutherland won the sectional title 2-0. So predictions aren't too reliable :). The game has to be played, no? But I do think that the final is likely to be Aquinas versus Sutherland unless either team experiences the loss of key players or even a single key player.

I think 12 teams make the sectionals from class A, Mendon will be there.

It seems like Sutherland and Aquinas are currently favorites. HFL has a good record, but hasn't played any top-ranked teams (other than class B).

Then again, on any given day......

Are you positive 12 teams are making it this year?

pater you seem to know alot about mendon...whats wrong with them? could one player really have that big of an impact? is the rest of the team just not that good or are they underperforming?

Suozzi is that good that he makes a big difference, as he is often double teamed, or even triple teamed. That said, Mendon so far doesn't appear as strong as in recent years. They're a lot better with Suozzi in the lineup, but it takes 11 strong players to consistently beat the best teams. Whether they have those guys will become clear in sectionals, as they adjust to having Suozzi back.
