If we had played a better 1st half I think the game would of been way different, but got to give credit when it is due.

Anyone can be beat! They seem to be a good team but everyone has off nights, SU lost to Louisville today which is a major upset.

I listened to the game on the radio...of course it's way different than watching live, but it didn't sound good at all. Dundee was lucky to keep it as close as it was. In the first half and most of the game, I believe, Mynderse was getting offensive rebound after offensive rebound! On top of that Dundee seemed to have a lot of turn-overs as well. Now I haven't seen many games, but is it correct that Dundee only has one scorer that averages double digits? Is anyone else stepping up offensively besides Conyers?

Dundee doesnt have anything besides him. Key on him and game over. No, Dundee is very balanced.

Just looking at the box scores, it appears that Joe Tortolon has really stepped up his offensive game averaging around 13/14 a game for the last 7 or 8 games. I think he had a season high last game of 18.

Really? I'm pretty sure that he didn't score that many against Mynderse. I thought he had 6 (2-3's). I could be wrong but I though the next 2 or 3 players were averaging 8 or so???

On Friday night's broadcast, I had stated, according to Maxpreps, Dundee had 2 starters in double figures...Conyers at 15.3 and Tortolon at 11. The guard play for Dundee the other night was a huge factor. Too many unforced turnovers.

yeah but honestly Mynderse hasn't played all too great towards the end half of the year. alot of the games have been pretty close for them as of late, they gotta step it up during sectionals to prove they are as good as their record shows...their a great team though. They have to be the heavy favorite in sectionals

I am guessing the only undefeated team left in Section Five at 17-0 is a pretty heavy favorite going into the post-season.....

I went back to Jan. 19th to verify the staement I made. Joe's average between Jan. 19- Feb. 12 is 15.5 points/game. So, actually, his average, lately, is higher than I thought. There is no web site to pull this data from when you have a question like that. No one wants to do the work.
Tortolon:
Jan. 19 vs. Red Jacket 11
Jan. 21 vs. Naples 19
Feb. 2 vs. Romulus 14
Feb. 4 vs. South Seneca 15
Feb. 10 vs. DeSales 18
Feb.12 vs. Mynderse 16

mynderse is just sick this year. i know anything can happen in sectionals, but i would have to say they are a favorite to take home the title. anybody who disagrees with them being a favorite probably hasn't seen them play or doesn't know much about b-ball. i have yet to hear a weakness from anybody other than they aren't playing well the second half of the season, um they haven't lost so they obviously didn't play that bad.

actually their weakness is their defense, but they make up for it scoring so many points because their scorers are unreal.

I don't think anyone is saying they aren't the favorite - but "favorites" don't always win, especially if they get cocky about their chances. Let's hope that doesn't happen to Mynderse.

The key to Mynderse is attacking but attacking intelligently. If you play afraid of them the pressure will just swallow you up. Attack areas are there but you have to hit them and be ready for them. If they get in foul trouble their bench isn't deep.
Defensively you just can't contain everyone. I thought we did OK on Lynch the other night and he got 22 points. Sciotti is very good from deep as is Verkey. Passalacqua shoots well enough to where you can't forget about him.

Get them in foul trouble they have no bench

If foul trouble is the key to beating this team, why hasn't anyone been able to beat them that way yet?

Dundee doesn't seem to have guards that can/are creating their own shots off the dribble; taking it strong to the rim and finishing. That's the only way your going to get easy buckets, open up the outside game, draw more fouls, and force the opposition to use more of their bench. I would say, against a team like Mynderse, you have to be more aggressive offensively while maintaing position to rebound or get back on defense to stop the break.
Also when playing a tough team like Mynderse, you have to consider how hard your team is working defensively to stop their top-guns. Unless a team is in wicked awesome shape, their legs are going to go late in the 3rd and 4th quarters along with their outside shooting fundamentals, reinforcing the benifits of getting to the rim.

Then a team like ER that very often uses a 5 in/5 out rotation should do just fine against Mynderse. Fresh legs every 4 minutes with basically no change in the skill, size or speed they've got out on the floor.

Ill take Mynderse. You think you shut them down and they just surprise you. If we made some shots and played the first half like we did the second we could have won that game. We thought we did a good job on Lynch as coachstew said but he ended up with 22. The rest of the team can shoot lights out as well. They drive make it to the foul stripe and dont miss from there either. I dont see them losing anytime soon.

ER plays a trapping style of defense, so they have to be careful leaving the shooters open. I will say this the Mynderse kids don't appear to get winded. Our kids are pretty strong and physical and they didn't look tired at the end of the night. So, I'm not sure the 5 in 5 out strategy will have an affect on them.

I didn't say that Mynderse would be tired by the end. That guy said that teams have to worry about keeping up with Mynderse and I said that 5 in 5 out could work simply because ER doesn't get winded either with that game plan. I'm just talking in terms of keeping up with them up and down the court, not about shooting or defense or whatever.

I still think the key to beating them is you have play physical on defense. If they are able to go where they want on the floor and get a pass and square up, then it's difficult. Somehow you have to challenge every shot.
