Super-7 Football Rankings
1. Hornell (6-0). The Maple City Football Factory jumped out to a 41-0 lead after three periods and earned the 41-8 victory last Friday over a solid Way-Co team. The Red Raiders have now outscored their opponents in the first half this year — 208-13. The scary part about this team has yet to be seen as junior QB Dom Scavo has only thrown the ball 53 times this season, completing 34 of those with five TD’s, and no INT’s. When teams do pack the box, which they might, you can expect Scavo to put up some monster games come sectional time.
2. Letchworth (6-0). Make that six straight games with no points scored against these Indians. Letchworth, who won 55-0 last week against Perry in a game that could have been 150-0, has now outscored their opponents 247-0 this season. Junior RB Chris Nevinger (95-984) is averaging over 10 yards a carry and has scored 14 TD’s. Of course he is running through holes a semi diesel truck could fit through. A tough test at Livonia awaits Friday for these Indians.
3. Cal-Mum (5-1). Three straight shutouts for the Red Raiders after shaking off a terrible first half during their 42-0 victory over rival Le Roy last Friday. The injury bug bit them last week as several starters were forced to the sideline. Senior DE/OL Dan Whiteside is fast becoming one of the top two-way players in Section V. How can you not like senior LB/OL Jon Kemnitz, all 5-foot-6, 170 pounds of him... He’s without question, the toughest pound for pound player in the league. Red Raiders are seeded NO. 1 in ‘DD’ bracket.
4. Livonia (4-2). Three straight W’s for the Bulldogs, including outscoring those three opponents 128-28, while producing over 1,150 yards of offense. Steven Diener (88-648, 10 TD’s) is on a tear right now running the football with seven TD’s in the last three games. The defense is led by Jake Keller (63 tackles), Derek Bishopp (52 tackles), Cody Cisco (42 tackles, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 INT) and Diener (34 tackles, 3 INT). A tough nut to crack this week with unbeaten, unscored upon Letchworth coming to town.
5. Avon (4-2). A 39-7 victory over host Warsaw last Friday now means the Braves’ offense has totaled 30-plus points in five of the six games they’ve played. Senior RB Richie Welch (86-779, 7TD) is currently 226 yards shy of all-time rushing mark at ACS (2,888 yards set by Germaine Dixon). Expect that record to fall in the next two weeks. Avon is the No. 2 seed in Class DD sectionals and should breeze into the finals where they should meet No. 1 Cal-Mum.
6. York (5-1). The Golden Knights had to scratch and claw their way to a thrilling 30-27 road victory over Geneseo last Friday in the annual ‘Valley Ball’ in front of a loud, rowdy crowd at Don DeBadts Field. The victory clinched the LCAA D-III title. The good news was the York special teams, which forced two fumbles, and the rushing game which produced 220 yards. The bad news was the pass defense which allowed 220 yards and three long TD passes by the Blue Devils. The Knights earned the No. 2 seed and will face No. 7 DeSales Friday. Expect a much better job on pass defense this week.
7. Wayland-Cohocton (4-2). The Golden Eagles stayed healthy following their loss to Hornell last Friday, which was priority No. 1 for head coach Jim Brownell and his staff. D.J. Harris was held in check by the Red Raiders. The senior RB still has managed 807 yards on 91 carries
(8.9 avg) with 10 TD’s this fall. Way-Co is in need of a victory this Friday against Le Roy as a ‘W’ would guarantee them a sectional home game the following week.
Honorable Mention: Bath (4-2), Geneseo (4-2).
