I heard that Mynderse dropped from pool play when they heard they had to play Batavia citing safety concerns for their players and a fear of players being injured for next year.If this is true I don't think it sets a very good example.I don't care that this is pool play or not,you suit up and play.Midlakes, who seems like a much weaker team,is playing Batavia instead and will be ready to play.Hopefully this is just a rumor and there is a much more legitimate reason for pulling out.

A coach looking out for his players...how terrible would that be? If a coach has concerns for the saftey of his players I applaud his decison to not play.

They just dont want to face the "rogues" of Batavia. The sportsmanship of that team is an embarassment.

Mynderse complained that Batavia is so much bigger, but both are Class B schools. Yes, Batavia has more students, but I wouldn't be shocked if Mynderse had more players on its roster (I'm too lazy to look it up right now).
Mynderse is 3-3 and in the same division as Bishop Kearney and Marcus Whitman.
It sounds like the school is upset about not making sectionals, took its ball and went home.

WOW....lotta class being shown on this subject. Do ya really think this was a easy decision? Do ya think the Coach enjoyed making the decison? With the combined enrollment they are a B.....BUT they take all of Romulus' enrollment for I heard 2 players. So make the jokes and post the cute pics, BUT remember in the end the Coach was thinking about the players.

He has more kids on the roster and his team has a better record than Batavia.
I don't see a reason to be worried about safety.

Where exactly are you getting this stuff?I think you are just posting to get a response. You have nothing to back up those statements.Batavia plays hard and fair every down.Thats all I'm gonna say besides:
Hey Conors72,does your mama know your a rogue and a thug? Can you and your Blue Devil gang please take it easy on Midlakes this week and leave the weapons home?
We all know Conors is a thug. He hates tennis!

This is football right? There is always a chance of being hurt.If he was thinking about his players he would of let them play and sparred them all the disrespect that they will encounter because of this.Elba played 2 games with practically a JV team and they showed up to play when it would of been easier to forfeit but they fought a battle they knew they were going to lose but fought anyway. What is the coach teaching the kids? This is not a preseason scrimmage, the season is still going on and they just walked away from it.What about those teams that got beat 90-0,69-7.Even they played the entire game when it would have been much easier to throw up the red flag and forfeit. You just don't do that!

the mynderse coach doesn't coach basketball or wresting as well does he? many times in the second half of a big first round sectional loss the joke is that the basketball players are on the sideline so they don't get hurt for practice that starts in a week or so.

Its easy for all you computer chair qb's to make the call. Obviously the coach must know something i/ we dont know. No he doesnt coach basketball or wrestling. They wouldnt play Batavia in the regular season. What does more kids on the roster and more wins mean concerning safety? And didnt we have the discussion about Batavia playing all bigger schools already? And yes I would remove a team from the field if they were in a game that would end up 90-0. What is that gonna do on the positive side for a team? Your telling me you would be pleased if you son was on the loosing end of a 90-o game?

I must be missing something didn't Batavia just beat the #8 seed in pal-mac by a point so I woulld have to say by those results that those 2 teams are pretty equivelent. So why is the Mynderse coach afraid of what is equivelent to a #8 seed team. I could see if they backed down from a team like Geneva but really Batavia is not a powerhouse team by any stretch of the imagination, no offense to any of the players or coaches of that team just stating the obvious. There has to be another reason for backing out of that game.

Coach Cottengin didn't make the call, Principal Tony Fererra did. To bad-he and his staff are working hard to build the program back up and not getting support from adminstration. He teaches in Geneva and lives in Fairport-if he was smart he try to hook up with one of those 2 programs...

I would have to think that the principal got some kind of imput from the coaches.Too bad for the kids especially the seniors. They didn't have that bad of year. They were 3-4 or something like that and just missed sectionals.I know if Batavia played Class B teams this year, they wouldve made sectionals but they wouldnt of been the best team either.I would estimate they probably would've been somewhere between the 4th and 6th seed.I think that Mynderse could of matched up pretty well with them.

If you would pull kids off the field during the middle of the game because of a lopsided score, let me give you some advice, please do every kid and parent in section V a favor, don't go into coaching!Let me guess, you were the kid that never played anything unless you knew you could win and the one that always quit and went home when you were losing.

Guess again. Winning isnt the only thing you can learn alot in a loss. But explain in all of YOUR infinite wisdom how anything good can come from getting beat 90-0. Let me get this straight because my opinion differs from you I'm the idiot? Try advancing your thinking to the 21st century.

Mynderse lost to Waterloo by 2 points. Waterloo beat Pal-Mac. Pal-Mac lost to Batavia by 1. My point is...on paper this game would be far from a blow out.

i think this entire topic is stupid. everyone is rambling on about a team that dropped out of pool play. we're not playing them on friday. Simple as that. The reason doesn't matter. And we have good sportsmanship, so speak as if you actually know what you're talking about. Sure there are those that talk a little bit, but these are the same guys that are helping the kids off the ground that they themselves just tackled. And hilly i never said I hate tennis... i'm trying to generate some interest in the sport.

Conors, I have to stick with the assumption you hate tennis until you go out for the team.
I can give you some pointers, even though I haven't played in years. I usually don't cover much tennis but if you play I promise I will be at Batavia's home opener.
And good luck with Midlakes this week.

hilly promise me a full page article (it can be on like page 4) on batavia's new tennis recruit, their "secret weapon", and i'll do it. Just to be an a-hole. lol.
What would be really funny- is if you did it on some fake person.. just make up a name, and make up a story about them, make sure everyone comes to batavia's home opener, and then just tell them he doesn't exist

If you play I promise you I will write a column on the front page of sports. But you can't wear the short 1980s tennis shorts because I don't wanna puke!

Dan the only thing that S.O.T.A/Pal-Mac brawl did was motivate Pal-Mac to win a State Championship, it's just too bad with all the talent they had coming back they didn't win two in a row.
