Nobody gets more out of his players year after year than Dickens. Nobody gave them a chance against Mynderse last year and they were a couple of minutes away from posting the biggest upset of the section v tourney. McMullen and Fries both run class programs. King in Leroy is a great coach who just needs to find some kids who want to commit to hoops. You guys in Livingston County are spoiled by having so many great coaches.

Nobody gets more out of his players?! I can't agree with that one...how many sectional titles has he won? Or how many times has he even been to the finals? Pretty sure both are zero, or at least pretty low (could not find out for sure). And last i checked they have pretty good athletes at that school for him to work with. I'm not gonna sit here and rip the guy, i just don't think his results have backed up that statement. Fries and McMullen have to be the top two in my book by far.

Man not many D 1 teams or coaches get much pub on these Livingston County posts. Not one D 1 coach mentioned? Must be all the coaches in D 1 stink haha (sarcasm, so no one blow any lids)! There has to be someone decent in D 1...... I think the Way Co coach does a very nice job there, kids play hard and get better as the year goes on. From what I remember Bath had a pretty good turn around last year too. Seems like they might be going in the right direction finally. And Livonia won the league last year so it seems that thier coach would be mentioned up there near the top too.

Yes Brian Dyring really turned Bath's program around and was a "Breathe of Fresh Air" So to speak. I heard nothing but great things about him, and I'm reasonably sure that will continue. He's had the kids playing all summer and fall and really has boosted the program. He's even helping out with the youth program and is bringing new life back to the program that had dropped off quite a bit. When you have Sectional Champions in Football, Soccer and Baseball all of the time and the basketball team isn't very good it was hard to get the kids excited about playing, Brian is doing a good job of changing that and is working his way towards making the basketball team a title contender as well. there's no reason to think they can't start competing with the the "Top Dogs"

CM played in the finals his 1st or 2nd year against Sodus when they had Ryan Hallett and company. He also only lost by 2 points in the semis to Campbell Savona the year they won the state championship when no one else came close to them. 2 of those Campbell players went on to become stud players at St. Jon Fisher. And when Avon won the states 2 years ago CM played them very close both times during the year and almost beat them in Avon with a last second shot, probably the closest anyone came to Avon that year (other than Kearney who beat them), with a team with much less talent that Avon should have creamed both times. So like him or not, he does get a lot out of his players. I only see D2 and D3 games so sorry about not mentioning any of the D1 coaches. I know they are all great and again you guys in Liv County are blessed with a lot of great coaches.

I can respect that defense...I know that those games against Avon are always tight, rivalries are a battle no matter the talent level. Just to say that he gets the most out of his players out of anyone in the LCAA is a stretch IMO. There are LCAA coaches I would take over him if I had to pick one....just my opinion.

agree. as stated before, if you like a coach that uses severe profanity toward his team as motivation, then he's the man. if you want a coach to display poor sportsmanship during the game. then hes your man. A true test, is to ask his ex-players, what they think of them. Then ask the letchworth boys what they think of mcmullen.

And ex-Avon guys about Fries...I know I would never say anything bad about him and don't know anyone else that would.

Jeez sorry, didn't no you'd get so picky. It was the year before Avon won states and both games Avon only won by 3 points each with Jordan Rogers missing a 3 pointer at the buzzer at the game in Avon. It was the same Avon team that went to states the next year with the same starters and they went undefeated that year as well until they lost in sectionals.

Well you did say the year they won the state title. And there was a pretty big difference between the team in 08 and the team in 09

oh jeez here we go again if you were there you'd know the whole story. that was blown way outta proportion and from experience by an ex-player it was a huge motivation

Dave Gillettes success speaks for itself...is it 4 sectional titles or 5? Comes back from not coaching for a few years and wins a title in 2010 with a Perry program that was losing its winning ways for the most part. Theres not another coach with that amount of success yet.
Of course Fries should be recognized for what he did with Avon in 09, but that one state championship by no means puts him at the top of this list, yet. This year he faces a different task coaching a team that doesnt have a lot of experience and isnt the most talented team hes had, but from what Ive seen so far he has gotten a lot out of his players, especially on defense.
I would say ranking the top 3 coaches in livingston county id go with Gillette, Sticks, Fries (again, give him a few more years to prove himself more).

have you ever been inside a varsity practice or varsity huddle--come on already--you think the kids don't swear--for the most part they don't even raise an eyebrow about profanity--they are a little bit more matured at that point of their life--abusive profanity a whole nother animal but the occasional swearing getting a point across is pretty common practice in practice--not neccessarily in front of crowd at games
