Three league games tonight and a couple of non-leaguers any thoughts????

League

Avoca vs. Prattsburgh- Prattsburgh wins pretty convincingly, Avoca should and probably will look lost against a quality team
Campbell-Savona vs Bradord- Coming off a dissapointing performance against Prattsburgh, I think Campbell comes in with something to prove and this one is out of reach before halftime
Canisteo-Greenwood vs. Hammondsport- I've been reading alot more about Hammondsport than I have about C-G so for that and Hammondsport being home im picking them

I beleive Avoca will give Prattsburg a run for there money figuring they were beating A-A there whole game until the last 2:53 of the game when Clarkson and Rice fouled out. So i think it will come down to who can last longer and make more foul shots at the end of the game. Also Avoca has a 6'4 center who is atleast 4 inchs taller than Prattburgs tallest

Ok Bill you go to the game tonight and give your own report after you watch it, cause it won't be a blow out like everyone is excepting it to be.

Avoca vs. Prattsburgh-Avoca will give Prattsburgh a challenge, I don't believe it'll be a huge blowout.
Campbell-Savona vs Bradford- this one is a tough one. I think they are both good teams and may be a close game.
Canisteo-Greenwood vs. Hammondsport

Also Tomorrow: JT vs. Alfred Almond, the only SCL game. JT had a lot of opportunities in the Canaseraga game. Once JT is making their shots, they may become a challenge for Alfred-Almond.

Good Luck to all teams though!

I was simply correcting your info about Prattsburgh's tallest player, I didn't make any predictions about the game. I haven't seen Avoca play yet this season. BTW I get paid to write about Prattsburgh games, so be sure to pick up next weeks edition of the New York Eagle news to read my report about the game.

So what team do you play for allstar? and yeah figuring addison is a big C school and Avoca is a small D school, soo yeah addison should crush all the d schools in there devison. Avoca only lost to the undefeated A-A by 5 and should of won that game since they were up by 9 then two of there main starters fouled and than A-A had a late run. Also Avoca lost to addison because of foul trouble and there starting point guard was extremely sick that game. Also Avoca has less of a selection of players unlike Addison since they are a Big c school

I am not a player, I am an adult. Just an FYI, Addison's point guard sat out the game against Avoca, and their starters played less than half the game. Not gonna get into an argument, just stating my opinion.

Yeah figuring Pj and Mike played most of the game, and Yeah Dalton would of helped a little bit doubt him playing would of been a huge factor, Avoca's guard Tim Covell had 3 fouls in the first half so sat out the rest of the game. so avoca had to put a foward on a addison guard

the reason that h-port is getting all the talk is because they have played 3 SCL teams and didnt play well, C-G played warsaw and attica which are not local teams for the SCL league and played awful in both games. This game should be very close though.

Who has Avoca played and beat? Who has Alfred-Almond played and beat?

Avoca:
61-52 win over Bradford without their two best players
43-38 Loss to Avoca
50-42 Win over Hammondsport (without Obrocta)
56-33 Loss to Addison (Missing Point Guard)

Record: 2-2
Quality Wins: 0

Alfred-Almond:
57-32 Win over Scio (a JV team)
43-38 Win over Avoca
47-29 Win over Hammondsport (without Obrocta)
44-24 Win over Bradford

Record: 4-0
Quality wins: 0

Quality Team rating determined by record from last season and start of this season.

Coming onto sectionv.talksback.com to talk smack is fun, but make sure you have the ability to back it up. I'm not sure that either one of these teams will be bottom feeders in Steuben County, given the scope of the league. Both teams have potential, but like Butler in the NCAA last year, you have to beat one of the powers that be in order to have credibility at all.

At the end of the day, predictions, when done with class, are fun for hypothetical reasons. However, let your play back up what you are saying. The folks on here who have picked against the Avocas, Alfred-Almonds, and Bradfords of the world, are doing that based on what they have seen thus far.

If Avoca or Bradford or Alfred-Almond were to knock off a Campbell, Prattsburgh, Canisteo-Greenwood, Arkport, or Addison, that would be something to establish credibility. Until then, you have to live with the reputation of beating up on second tier teams in Steuben County....

The league is so even this year, the regular season doesn't matter for much. It will be interesting to see how Prattsburgh and Campbell preform tonight, given the emotional type game they had on Wednesday.

Having said that, I just hope for a great night of basketball in Steuben County! Cheers!!

Your rating system has flaws, to say the least! Last year is done and over with. And, by the way, Addison is a quality team.

all of these avoca players like to talk up their team, but face it your not going to have a great team this year... you gave up 52 points to Bradford, and they as well didnt have a couple of their starters.. there are no excuses there.

You are correct....my intent before editing was quality wins rating not quality teams played. Addison is the most talented team in the league......I will edit that when I get a chance..
The point I was making isn't a slight against any program....I am just saying if you want to be relevant, you must be those teams that are precieved to be at the top of the league..

I think everyone knows the SCL is down this year. Addison is the only team that stands out above the rest. Prattsburgh may be the 2nd best team but even the skill level of Prattsburgh is below previous years. Same thing for C-S. Maybe the usual bottom teams of Avoca, Bradford, and A-A will have better years because of this but I doubt anyone from the SCL will go anywhere come sectionals.

That's why I think Prattsburgh and Campbell, when all is said and done, will be up there at the top with Addison. The teams are down, so in the end it will come down to the teams that have the best coaching.

Ok so avoca had a bad game? but guess what A-A was losing to Avoca until the last 3 minutes of the game when Avoca's forward and point guard fouled out. soo i wouldn't be trashing Avoca all that much esspeically when i doubt A-A will be winning states this year

you were winning the game by under five the whole game. and last i checked the fourth quarter is not 5 mins long, you have to be winning the whole 8... just saying. but you most likely had like 3 starters out and 2 injured.. or you would of smoked us..

What happened in the Prattsburgh and Avoca game? Was there a let down from Prattsburgh after the big win over C-S? Avoca is a scary team, simply because they fly around like mad men and cause enough havoc to stay in games.

UNCTarheels

Prattsburgh went 18-for-34 from the foul line, missing 5-or-6 front ends of 1-n-1's, that didn't help their cause

C-G went 11-for-24 while Hammondsport went 1-for-6, Campbell-Savona went 9-for-22, Bradford went 4-for-9, Wellsville went 7-for-16, Bath went 9-for-19, Avoca went 10-for-15, overall not the greatest performances from the foul line so far

12-11-2010, 01:10 PM
I think the important part of that statement is that Addison didn't give up. In years passed, when they weren't shooting well, they gave up. They have a lot of heart, and only 1 senior starter. The future looks bright for them. Next year should be a good year for upcoming talent.

I would consider free-throw shooting a big thing, not a little thing.

In the minds of the players, it is a little thing. Many players focus on the three point shot and forget that they need to be well rounded.

i agree with this. the league this year is soo wide open its on the table for anyone to take. I believe any team cant beat another it all depends on who shows up that day to play, and by the sounds of it can make more foul shots in the long run
