That's crazy. I wonder if the inbounder gets credit for the bucket even though the last time he touched the ball was from out of bounds. I wouldn't know how else they would count that in the scorer's book.

yes the kid inbounding the ball did get the basket due to be closest to the ball

The player that the ball touched last gets credit for the basket. In this case it appears to be the defender. It goes in the scorebook with a footnote that the defense scored 2 points for the opposition.

Who am I to question OldSchool78, but doesn't a basket scored by the defense get credited to the offensive player that is closest to the hoop, which would seem to be the inbounder once he ran in bounds?

In the NBA the closet player from the other team gets credit for the basket.
Maybe high school is different but I could not find it.

NFHS Basketball Rule Book. Page 43. Rule 5-3
Art.3 If a player scores a FG in opponents basket, it is not credited to a player , but is indicated in a footnote.
