I got 4 out of 5, a 3.0, or a solid "B". :) Who knew Livonia was gonna bring it vs Victor? We'll have to keep an eye on them.

Eastridge game was postponed.

I see the 3/30 Midlakes game has been removed from the schedules list on sportsfive. It was just there and then poof! This is turning into one of those seasons where some weeks you'll have 4 games, and maybe 2 practices. I think that begins to take it's toll on teams as the season progresses.

The 3/30 Bath-Midlakes game has been cancelled. This was a non-league contest and with the Finger Lakes having little room for games out of conference, I will be quite surprised if this game will be made up. Unless, as you suggest, Midlakes agrees to go back-to-back days or something of that nature. Lacrosse is a very physical game and playing consecutive days is tough, in my opinion.

So now Bath will not play this week or next ( spring break... no practice either ) and return on 4/12 to play Livonia. Then Penn Yan, Chenango Valley, Spencerport, & Brockport. hahahaha OMG...Well... at least we have one win in our pocket. Ouch.....

exlaxer78
03-29-2011, 03:08 PM
I would think playing only15 games could hurt either Midlakes' or Bath's seeding for the Section V tournament. Both teams would pick up some valuable points there, which could impact where they are slotted in the tournament.

I'd take Penfield all day. I was thinking the Schroeder/CC game might be? And I have no idea about Gananda. Early in the season, we'll have to see how things shake out.

I think Penfield will surprise people this year. The addition of Covely and a more experienced Russell has the makings of a good season.

CC 10 Schroeder 9 - that was the game I thought might be close.

Otherwise, the winners were as predicted....so far

What was the Fairport final? It's not up yet on sportsfive.

edit: I see RochesterCC reporting 14-1 F'port on Twitter, w/ 2 min left. That's good enough to post a "W". haha

Fairport once again is very good, on the other side GC looked awful...i.e. unable to complete a pass during a man-up situation. All that said, it should have been 25-1 if it wasn't for the spartans goalie...he is solid.

I'd also like to mention that Fairport, when involved in a mismatch, typically puts the brakes on at the end, and wins with class. They are a program to be admired and emulated.

No surprises on who the favorites are, but just like just every season, we are going to see some upsets such as R-H over CA. Good teams sometimes stumble out of the blocks but gain momentum over the course of the season, e.g. Irondequoit 2010. There are fewer surprises with the well coached teams as the season gets toward the mid-point and beyond.

The big question for me is will some of the middle of the pack teams improve to the point of being contenders? It's still early but, maybe keep an eye on Churchville and Victor who meet this week..

Big games of the week:

Penfield vs Pittsford on Tues, April 5th.
Thomas vs Irondequoit (4/5)
Victor vs C-C (4/7)
Pittsford vs Orchard Park (VI) on(4/7)

That's a very good question. It appears McQ forgot about the PY freshman as he got loose for 6G/2A. I would guess Bailey didn't cover him but, I'm not sure. If not, why wouldn't your best d-man be on their best attacker? McQ is offensive on offense, and only managed 2 man up goals. Their strength is close defense. And it appears they may not be as strong as the experts are saying.

Brighton 21 Batavia 0.

Obviously Batavia has taken a step backwards and that's too bad. They had some good athletes that graduated last year like Will Mulcahy and Chip Chapman, who are now helping lead Genesee CC to a top 5 NJCAA ranking. I think they're 7-1, maybe 8-1 right now with their only loss to last years National Champion, Onondaga CC.

Hopefully the Batavia program will rebound in the next few years.

They may have driven right by "the best" (in NY Class A) on their way to LI. That is, if they drove through Sec 3.

Brighton Girls played "the best" in the nation, and it wasn't pretty.

I give coaches at Brighton and Pittsford credit, they go out and play the best in and out of state to get there teams ready

Both are coming huge furtile recruiting grounds for D1 Lax

Brighton sends girls yearly to national powerhouse Northwestern

and Pittsford has the starting Goalie at Louisville and top 20 HS player and Nationa Honor Role player in Ali Curwin who is going to #10 James Madison next year

I think McDonogh (Md) would mow down anyone in Section V, including Pittsford. If you want to talk about D1 recruits, you need look no further than that program. Maryland, Northwestern, Louisville, Bucknell, and the list goes on. Of course, it's a private, haha. We won't go there...:D

It's ridiculous...first went to the Gates-Chili girls game at 4:30 but it got cancelled(rain and grass field). Drove to Naz for Pitts-Thomas on turf and it got cancelled due to the lightning....was so frustrated.

I'd like to know how they got the C-C vs G-C boys game in? Last time I knew, the G-C district has no turf, and the grass fields had to be just about unplayable. Then, with the thunderstorms rolling through the area, there is supposd to be a minimum (per Section V) 30 minute delay whenever you see lightning or hear thunder. Did the storms somehow miss that area? It would seem to me, that the game should have taken about 5 hours to complete. :)

I know the storm rolled through and was over in the gates area by 5:30, the game started at 6. I was already frustrated and was not going back to GC to find another cancelled game. They do play on grass, night games are played in the stadium and it does have decent drainage.

that makes sense, thanks. For some reason I had thought it was an earlier start.

Both C-C & G-C have to feel pretty good having completed 8 & 9 games to date. Others have only played 4-5 games, which will have them scrambling to complete all 16 games before the tournament.

I'm sorry to hear that. They're (Sec V) going to have to find a way to be equitable for seeding procedures. In my opinion those would have been 2 non-league wins for the Rams.

For a Lacrosse fan, it would be good to have a clone tomorrow. Pittsford vs. Fairport and Penfield vs. Thomas should be exciting. I don’t think it will have much of an impact on the sectional tournament as it is likely that Pittsford and Fairport will be seeded 1&2 and will have tough games going through Thomas and Penfield to get to the Section V championship game.

For a prediction, I think that Fairport has a slight advantage on offense, while Pittsford is slightly better on defense. Fairport has had a tougher schedule so the records don’t really mean much. Pittsford is due for a loss with it’s undefeated season so far, but Pittsford is due to beat Fairport as Fairport won both games last year. Home Field advantage – Pittsford, on grass is going to win by 2.

Penfield has a better record and a tougher schedule so far. Predict that Thomas will keep it close, and have a come from behind upset victory – by one.

Good post.

I think the choice is obvious, I'd be going to Pittsford. IF, Pittsford wins this one, I like Fairport to win the Section V championship. I think the season series will be split with the second game being the class A championship. Losses can be a good thing in the regular season.

I like Penfield in a close one over WT, 13-11.

So it appears this game was as advertised, a close one. Don't be fooled by the 9-4 score as the game was knotted 4-4 to begin the 4th, and while Pittsford did outscore Fairport 5-0 in the last quarter, one goal was an empty netter. Another goal came on a turnover while Fairport was attempting to clear the ball, something they do with regularity. Faceoffs > Pittsford, Shots > Fairport, Groundballs > Fairport. All stats relatively close. Fairport needs their big guns to step up.

I'm looking for Fairport to return the favor should they meet again.

It's always high quality when it goes in, and low quality when it misses the cage. The point is, you must have possession to shoot. So, were Quinn's saves "low quality"? Hmmm?

several players on fpt took shots from 15 yards out. Id love to be out shot and have those shots being taken. Faiports lucky it wasnt a worse score. And i dont wanna hear that quinn (the goalie) was lucky because hes had dominating performances in goal previously in the year.

I'm more inclined to believe the observations of those who have ties to neither program. In other words, an objective observer. Yours are tainted with homerism because you cannot seaparate yourself from your team. Using adjectives like "dominate" and "studs" make it hard to believe anything you say anyway. That's cool, keep up the cheerleading.

Everyone is talking Pittsford & Fairport in class A but, no mention of Penfield? The early season dark horse? So there is still a long ways to go before the finals at SJF.

The Section V tournament is a great time, and a lot of things can happen especially with the lower seeds #3 & #4. So, no one can count on taking home the hardware yet. And the winners in all classes will have earned the right to move on to the western regional. I for one am looking forward to it and I wish all the teams well, as the regular season wraps up. Peace.

The problem with Fairport is that once they are down you see panic sweep through D to A, and everyone takes it upon himself to get the team back in the game. Last years Fairport team knew how to handle pressure very, very well. Possession was a huge factor in the first matchup, with a change in that, I see Fairport scoring a heck of a lot more. As far as offensive "studs" and defensive "studs" go, I wouldnt call Pitt's D spectacular as you made them out to be, werent challenged enough to say that in my opinion. I saw Fairport alot more physical as well.

No one mentions coaching, which is what the playoffs come down to. I give the edge to the Fairport staff, I think they make the adjustments and put a better game plan together for a possible rematch. But first things first. Penfield. If Fairport wants to get to the title game they'll have to get by a gritty Patriot team and secure the #2 seed. And Fairport coaching staff will need to be on its game for the next couple weeks as it has a tough schedule this week - Then sectionals. Maybe Fairport will use the size of its bench – as pretty sure win/lose any of these games, Fairport will still be playing Penfield on the 27th.

I think Pittsford’s game management is better, as Pittsford has won 5 games by two or less, where Fairport has only won one close game. Thought Fairport coach was a little too emotional against Pittsford as I saw him grab one of his players and berate him, and they should of taken a time out when Pittsford scored its sixth goal.

OK Exlaxer, you finally won. I am now a total convert to this sport. Wow it doesn't get more exciting than this. I think we only had one eligible sub on the sidelines for the entire game. I am very happy for the kids, but also for the program which suffered through some very difficult times in the past. So many of these kids have spent large amounts of time in the off season and it is now paying huge benefits. Zach Reed really was the pioneer who got all this started with his supreme dedication to the game of lacrosse and many followed suit. Ya can't teach heart and the boys demonstrated a great deal of that tonight. Tomorrow's a new day, however. Ha

It would be just like you to give credit to others but, don't minimize the role Nick has played in the teams' successes over the last 4 years. There obviously is a great sense of pride knowing the kids have earned it, and there's no better feeling than seeing the kids succeed.

In the game of golf, some say great players find the answers to their game "in the dirt". The same might be said of the Bath lax players, as well as other Sec V teams who have been working so hard. Ya have to love it when kids reach their potential. Congratulations to all. Keep it rolling!

Now we know Penfield is for real and in sectionals anything can happen. Pittsford still a step above but on any given Sunday.

If the seeding plays itself out.....the rematch will be VERY interesting. Let's see who "wants it" more. That is one of several games that I have to try and see. I love this time of year!

Way down the road....the class A western regional matchup looms large...

Exciting Penfield/Fairport game. Close game all around, Did think Fairport had the edge in possession time – as they had more shots – but think Fairport had more mistakes with some unforced turnovers – with passing. Thought Penfield came in hot, made little errors. but, tough loss in the last tenth -second.

Assuming Pittsford is in the sectional finals, who would they rather see: Penfield or Fairport?

Penfield's loss to Canandaigua was a big step backwards. We need to forget about this one because if we play like this in the sectionals its all over. I wonder why the let down.

Now that the outbracket games are complete, we get to the real heart of the matter with the quarterfinal games (games at higher seeds home field):

Class A: Top seeds advance easily

#6 Webster Schroeder vs #3 Penfield
#7 Gates Chili vs #2 Fairport
#5 Rush-Henrietta vs #4 Webster Thomas
#9 Athena/Odyssey vs #1 Pittsford

Class B: I'm picking Victor in the "upset of the day", CA "upset" in seeding only

#6 Victor vs #3 Brighton
#7 Hilton vs #2 Churchville-Chili
#8 Spencerport vs #1 Irondequoit
#5 Canandaigua vs #4 McQuaid

Class C: I see all the higher seeds advancing fairly easily

#9 Mynderse vs #1 Penn Yan
#6 Livonia vs #3 Geneva
#7 East Rochester vs #2 Bath
#5 Pal-Mac vs #4 Aquinas

Good picks laxer – my upset prediction is Hilton over Churchville Chili.

The biggest blow-outs predicting Penn Yan with the biggest point differential followed by Pittsford over Greece, or Fairport over GC. It all depends on how long the coach will keep his first string in.. For instance with Irondequoit : Spencerport’s defense can be pretty physical so I wouldn’t want to be the coach who let a player get injured in a lopsided game or, on the other hand, wouldn’t want to be the coach who didn’t get his team ready. I guess that’s why I’m sitting in the bleachers.

Hilton over C-C? Hmm, interesting.

Agree, good points on potential injury. Pittsford & Fairport could absolutely blow their opponents away but, that seems unlikely. Pittsford "D" could pitch a shutout though...we'll wait and see. Starters the 1st half tops, then empty the bench? Some of the youngsters won't see any time after the quarterfinals anyway. It's a good day to be in the bleachers...

Fairport pitches the no-hitter, 19-0, over GC.

Penfield over Schroeder by the hairs of their chinny shin chin. Patriots score with :01 left in the final quarter. Wow!

Penfield very lucky to get the win, Webster had a point blank shot stopped with .30 left in the game. Webster didn't look like a team with only 4 wins or Penfield didn't look like a team with 14 wins. A win is a win and lets continue on.

Class A - everyone wants to see Fairport lock horns with Pittsford again. There's still some work to do but, it's possible.

upset special: class B, #3 Brighton over #2 C-C.

Class C, #2 Bath and #3 Geneva appears to be a great battle today. PY and P-M had a close contest earlier, this time I don't see it being that way.

All the top seeds advance. I saw the Penfield vs Fairprt game. Too many horses in the Fairport barn, and too many mistakes for the Patriots. Still, a good game and guess what? It rained all night. Shocking...I know.

Penfield has a good team too. They have all the pieces, just couldn't limit the mental errors. They had a good season. Maybe they will be back in contention in 2012.

Best wishes to Penn Yan as they advance. Just too well coached. too many athletes, and we didn't have enough fresh legs to stay with them. I hope they can represent Section V in the state tournament by defeating Section VI. ( sILVER cREEK ? ) It has been a fun ride for us... THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT.

Congrats to both teams. I wasn't at the game, but compared to their early season meeting (a 19-3 victory), I would say this was a very respectful showing by Bath.

It's a question I've been wondering about since the final scores of todays games were posted. One thing is for sure. It will be both Pittsford's and Irondequoit's biggest challenge of the season.

Both will be underdogs, and both will have to keep it close to have a chance. There will be no playing from behind. Both JD and Ithaca have superb defenses, and can light it up on offense.

They both have a chance but, right now I'd pick Ithaca and J-D. They are the front runners for state titles in class A & B.

Im gonna respectfully disagree and take, yes, my panthers in OT and Irondequoit in the semi finals and continue and play on in the championship. Good luck to the Whipple brothers.

it's a lot to ask but, I won't say they don't have a chance. The girls will be challenged as well when they take on Sec 3 powerhouse West Genesee.
