Bill, you are usually "in the know" on these things. I heard a rumor the other day that Wayne Carroll may actually be back on the sidelines next year, despite retiring this past season. Any credence to this rumor?

I don't believe so, I haven't heard anything and I'm sure I would have. I'm in constant contact with his family and the coaching staff at Bath-Haverling and I haven't heard that. I'm reasonably sure he'll traveling back-n-forth to New Jersey to watch Nick play and watching T.C play at Alfred-State. I wish you were right and he was coming back but I think that's highly unlikely

You're getting slow my friend! LOL I heard this a few weeks ago from your neighbor out front! From what I gather (and this just hearsay) Nick is being red-shirted so the family wont be traveling this fall so coach decided to do it again next year. GO RAMS!

I haven't been to the site in a while, but I read the article in the Leader and a one thing just struck me as very odd and I had to comment. These two phrases in the article really got me thinking:
"Carroll said that he worked closely with Bath athletic director Don Long in an attempt to schedule as many Friday night games as possible so that he could be freed up to follow Nick and T.C. in college"
"He really worked with me and gave me the schedule that I wanted..."
So the schedule is great for Coach Carroll but what about everybody else? The student athletes? Their families? The other coaching staff? The school? The bus drivers who have to drive bus on Friday nights vs. Saturday afternoons? All I'm saying is that it looks like everything was done to satisfy Coach Carroll and no consideration seems to be given to anybody else. Maybe that's going too far since I really don't know the details of the situation but I would think anybody reading that would get the same impression.
I think everybody in Livingston County football and Section V football in general realizes that Coach Carroll took the Bath football program to new heights during his run as head coach and those achievements should never be overlooked. And any parent would want to go watch their children play college sports if they're within driving distance. But for the school, the kids and everybody else to bend over backwards for him just so he can watch his kids play college football seems really extreme to me.

Why would someone in Greece even care?
I was at the Batavia game when Coach Carrol was honored for his accomplishments. It was obvious that the whole community was very supportive of their coach and I am sure they have no problem with the schedule. I surely have no problem with it here at Midlakes thats for sure.
Why would I, it's none of my business!

I'm a Steuben County Alum that follows Bath football even though I didn't attend Haverling High School; where I currently live shouldn't really matter in the discussion.
Even though Coach Carroll may have been cheered at the Batavia game for his accomplishments by the "community" as you put it, I'm not sure that 100% of the Bath community is supportive of Coach Carroll and some are ready to move on.
He's been a great asset on the sidelines at Bath for the past 20 years, as is obvious by the Sectional Titles and trips to the Syracuse that Bath football won under his tenure. However, when a coach starts demanding a football schedule be tailored around his own personal schedule, I don't think that's appropriate or considerate of all the people involved in the Bath football program - the kids, the families, other assistant coaches, perhaps the school and even opposing football programs. Again, I don't know the details - maybe Coach Carroll held a meeting and asked everybody involved in the program if it was Ok to try and schedule as many Friday games as possible because he wants to go see his children play collegiate football and everybody agreed to it. If that's the case, then great. But if not, I don't think it's appropriate for him to be making those sort of demands.
Also, what about any training or practices on Saturdays that he won't be there for? Is it fair for the kids who worked hard to not have their Coach there for them? Could you imagine after a tough loss on Friday night the Coach not being there the next day to motivate the team? I realize there's a staff of assistants capable of running a practice but some players might feel that if Coach doesn't have to be there, why should they?

If your that concerned then call the coach and voice your concerns. You have obviously put alot of thought into this issue why waste it with an anonymous post. Don't be shy.

Besides I am sure the majority of people prefer a Friday night game over a Saturday afternoon game anyway.

This is what I was thinking. I would much rather have a Friday night game, than a Saturday afternoon game.
I also didn't take the article as him demanding anything. They had 3 Saturday games last year, so it's not like they completely changed their schedule.

I'm not as hung on the whole modify the schedule bit, but rather is there something that Carroll is seeing that I'm not in terms of what talent is coming back? He was quoted as saying that he wasn't happy with how last year turned out. He graduated some good players and doesn't really have much coming back or does he? Leonard is back at QB, maybe Nevius is the marquee back now, but they don't have much for receivers or linebackers. Is there any "beef" left for the lines? I think they'll have a hard time reaching .500 next year. Thoughts?

Daniel Leonard will be entering 3rd year as a starter and 4th year overall, he's quickly climbing the ranks as one of Bath's best quarterbacks of all time and will only be a Junior this upcoming season. I know Danny has been attending a ton of clinics and camps and is making an effort to get better. He's such a natural athlete that I think he can have a great junior year.
Matt Nevius will be the primary running threat, he developed quite nicely last season and should be ready for a breakout junior year, he has explosive speed and power and is ready to be the next great Bath Running back.
you want Beef? How about 6'2" 275 lbs Tackle Kyle Weaver, he was all county his sophomore season and last season and will be entering his 4th year as a starter. Brett Moshier 5'10 275 lbs, & Tyler Reeve 6'0" 230 lbs will both return to the line.
The Wide Receivers will likely be Jake Kobza and Joey Torres and some J.V players will get a crack at it as well.
With a good off season I think Bath can do better than .500, obviously Hornell will be loaded again but I don't see any other LCAA team being head and shoulders better than Bath

I for one am glad that Hornell is playing in Bath on a Friday night. Personally I always hated those Saturday afternoon games. There is nothing better than high school football on a chilly Fall Friday night under the lights. I'm glad your back Coach Carroll it wouldn't be the same without you.
