Packing his pads for the last time...

It occurred to me today, that this week will be the last time I pack my son's pads. Believe me, he knows how to do it, but we have this ritual and tradition that goes back 11 seasons, that I pack Joe's pads, especially the night before the game. The feeling the night before a game is the same whether you're a coach, a player or a parent. We all deal with it differently and as the father of a son who plays football, packing his pads was my way of dealing with pre-game jitters!

I was inspired to post my own feelings as the end of the line reaches my family for high school football by fellow sectionv.talksback, com participant, dfisch80's post Time to pass the Torch (http://sectionv.talksback.com/showthread.php?t=1289). I know there's many other football families out there whose sons are seniors and these next few weeks will mark the final season with Mom and Dad, brother and sister, being so actively involved. My son, Joe, will be playing college football next season and although we'll enjoy that phase of his career, it won't be the same as the Pop Warner/High School Football experience.

I'd like to thank all of Joe's Coaches over the years. With the Chili Lions, I'd like to thank Dave Easton, Bob Watson, Joe Edd, Pete Lander, Randy and Beth Issacs, Jeff Mee, Joe Diponzio and Steve Lewandowski. Many thanks to Churchville Chili Saints Coaches, Paul Dick, Dennis Pynn, Joe Gallina, Mike Vitale, Pete Tabone, Matt Krenzer, Dave Childs and Brian Walker. You men and woman (Beth!) had a hand in guiding my little boy (Joe was 7 when he started playing with the Lions) into the fine young man he's become! Gosh, I'm going to miss this!

SectionVfan and greeceman,

Thanks for your kind words! It hit me last evening while packing his pads that this is it, the end of an era in our lives and the point where my wife and I will have to let go and allow him to fly. There's 29 other Saints whose parents are going through this same thing, as well as the many Senior football players on other teams and their parents.

The Saints JV team showed promise and went 6-2 this fall. Although 18 of the 22 starters were Seniors, there's some good players coming up that got some quality playing time this season. I believe the Saints will do just fine next season!

Don't worry brother — Mrashall will be packing their pads after Canandaigau whacks them Saturday night.
