With sectionals just two weeks away what are some thoughts on the top 5-7 rankings for each class??

In class C, Williamson Dansville and Way-Co will be exciting to watch. If they all run well at sectionals, who knows who will end up champs.

Other teams who look very strong this season are Pal-Mac, Victor as usual, Geneseo, and then all the class A schools always look good lol

Yes I saw that Pal-Mac was doing quite well this season, especially the girls. Williamson also, has always been strong.

Team wise for Class D/DD girls, I think there is going to be some stiff competition for who wins between Geneseo and Notre Dame and even Pavillion (if they have a full team?)

Class A schools, you're right, always look great, It's so hard to predict what will happen!

Might want to mention RH girls there too ... only 15 points back of CA and 10 ahead of Penfield at Counties. Ilana Schnaufer of Penfield didn't run ...

sorry, I posted this sometime around midseason and I just saw the results of counties yesterday... the R-H girls team did very well and are going to go into sectionals as one of the top teams, they upset penfield and fairport in outdoor last year, they might have that drive at sectionals as well

Worth the price of admission. HFL, Brighton, Mendon and Sutherland fighting for 1 team spot. Mendon is so strong and deep, HFL never seems to come up short in these big meets (Bernie is a master at championship time), and Brighton is hungry to stay #1 in "B". Since the course is flat and the weather cool & dry, light winds projected - lets see who has done their speedwork the hardest!

My gut tells me Mendon, but the head says HFL. I think Brighton's #5 is just a hair to far back to get them to the podium ahead of Mendon & HFL. I think Sutherland places enough runners ahead of Brighton to push them to 3rd.

Good luck to all!

"Section 5 Girls Class A — No. 3 Canandaigua vs. No. 4 Penfield vs. No. 9 Rush Henrietta

Three good teams will go at it for the second straight week. Last weekend at the Monroe County Championships — a huge meet that had 20 teams score — Canandaigua beat Rush Henrietta, 85-100, with Penfield in third (110). In a smaller race with fewer runners, these scores will come down and compress. If you score last week's meet as a tri-meet the scores are super tight — Canandaigua 38, Penfield 42, Rush-Henrietta 42. All it takes is one girls to step up or to have an off day and the whole meet changes.

Section 5 Boys Class B — No. 5 Pittsford Mendon vs. No. 6 Brighton vs. No. 9 HFL vs. No. 13 Pittsford Sutherland

The Section 5 Class B boys have been going at it all season long. A week ago Brighton was ranked No. 1 in the state and Sutherland No. 4. Then Mendon beat them all at the Monroe County Championships to shake things up. If you take Tully state rankings and score the meet between the four schools in comes out Mendon 48, Brighton 49, HFL 50. Statisically speaking that's dead even. Again, whoever gets out of Section 5 will have a shot at a state title"

Well done Tim Fulton

So does anyone know what the rules are for ND-B? They are in class C last year, then they are in DD this year when they are really a single D school. On the official classifications it shows them as a D. I bet you some people in DD were surprised when the first results came out without them and then they were changed to include them.

I think it is quite obvious that Notre Dame* does not have to follow the same rules as the rest of us--slumming it in the public schools. Notre Dame did not win the sectional title--Oakfield-Alabama did. Any true XC fan understands this.

I made this point last year when ND was moved to Class C for "more competition". What a pile of B.S.!! Last year Class D had Geneseo, a pretty strong program on both boys & girls side. Weren't they considered good enough competition?? ND is clearly a D school yet they moved to the weaker Class C. It didn't matter at years end but why were they moved?? I'm not sure how much say ND has in where they are placed, but something doesn't seem fair here. Not sure what happened today at sectionals but ND is clearly listed as a Class D school in the 2011 Section V Cross Country classifications listing, yet they were scored in and won DD? If I was from OA, I would be squeeling like a scalded chimp.

I am guessing ND* was involuntarily moved to C last year. There may be some rule in Section V that tries to keep 'recruiting private schools' from dominating their class. They should have been 'D' this year PERIOD. Someone did some nut sucking somewhere and nobody knew abut it. This is a big time embarrassment for Section V and the sport of cross country. Can any PUBLIC school move from class D to class DD in Section V? This seems like a private school privilege.

I am not from Oakfield and I am not from Alabama. I just know they got screwed.

In my opinion Notre Dame* has become the most hated team in Section V. Of course, after they got their trophy they had to continue the celebration indoors. It was a total in-your face move that showed ZERO class. They could have moved outside--out of the view of the team they STOLE the trophy form. Celebrate in private--and act like you've been there before.

The closest race of the day was Boys Class C with Wayland Cohocton beating Williamson by just 3 points, with the 2nd seeded Dansville in 3rd.

So does NDB just move around to avoid certain teams? :) I am not a hater, but why does it seem this way?

I was told by a HS coach today that at the preseason meeting everyone was informed that ND boys would be in DD and the ND girls in D. This wasn't their choice, but a decision by Section V. The section V website classificationsfor XC were not updated to reflect this. Anyone upset Saturday needs to be upset with their respective coaches, not ND. I thought ND had some say in where they ended up. I was wrong. Saturdays meet was scored exactly like it should have been.

ND is a good team and coaches should/would have planned for this. This should have been changed on the "official classifications" or posted as a revised one. Imagine if this happened in soccer or football. It got down to the seeding meeting and all of a sudden a new team is in your class that takes your number one seed. I would still have to say that O-A has a right to feel the way they do. In a mixed class race the runners need to be identified either D or DD.
