This part of the site has been dead and I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are with the HS league at MCC. I think the concept and the fact that MCC Softball makes the facility accessible to HS teams is great. My Observations over the years has been that there is a very wide range of ages and ability. I also see very little if any instruction when it comes to fundamentals and skills or at the very least any integration of team defensive play calls/strategy. Technically this is off season opportunity to develop players, input team system/philosophy and prepare for spring. Then you head to spring and try outs with 4-5 practices a week before the often delayed start to the regular season. All of that access and all of that time should provide a HS team with ample time to develop players. Not to mention the off season "open gyms" where you can incorporate much younger future JV and Varsity players into your system side by side with current players.

Personally, I would love to see more of that at MCC for the betterment of the quality of softball and individual development. The league really has no benefit as far as the actual game goes outside of live hitting. Now even that is worthless if players are bringing flawed swings and not getting individual instruction but that is a whole other subject. Make the "games" more about development. Stop bunting and worrying about winning the games and focus more on development. Pitchers should be working on their variety. Infielders on fielding and throwing technique. My fear is with all of the bunting and stealing and sliding combined with the varied levels of players and the fact that the ball travels with great velocity on the turf and the lighting can be difficult someone is going to get seriously hurt and for what??? Practice situations, develop the girls and input your system seems to be far more logical than what is going on currently. Thoughts?
