http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s319/SectionVTalksback/SiteStats.jpgWe reached over 1.5 MILLION hits in October on an average of 910 visits per day. First off, I want to thank some of the guys who helped give legs to this little venture. Michael Moran of SpinningWebs.com (http://www.SpinningWebs.com) is the man! He puts in way too many hours of his own time making sure this site is run just as well as his professional sites. Second to UNCTarheels and Hilly and to DanEnright who have shown their passion for Section V sports in spending countless hours to keep the site moving smoothely. I'd also like to thank Bill Stiner and Michael Johnson for providing their professional photographs to grace our front page. I want to thank our sponsors and partners, especially Local Sports Edge who has been with us from Day 1, the National Scouting Report, and Home Team Sports Magazine. This has been a fast 10 months and as you can see our growth has been exponential.
This site was started first as a source of information above and beyond what we'd find in the local media. It was started at as a place to discuss opinions about local sports and it was started as a place to further recognize the KIDS and what their hard work accomplishes in sports. We've seen tremendous growth in the amount of people contributing info and opinions. Unfortunately, one of the side effects of this fast growth has come in the form of abuse and complaints of abuse.
Aside from constantly sending the moderators private messages or emails, there are tools available to the average-everyday user to help keep the quality of this site at its best.
The first is the Thread Rating Tool. You can find this in the upper right hand corner of each thread you open (see below).
http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s319/SectionVTalksback/RateThreads.jpgIf a thread is a great source of information, inspiration or does a fantastic job of giving recognition to deserving kids and programs, please by all means drop a 5-star rating. If the thread is a group of kids arguing over their fantasy recruitment by Coach K, Pete Carroll or NBA Execs, leave it be, but put a lower rating on the thread.
The second tool available is for quick response to blatant violations of the Posting Guidelines (http://sectionv.talksback.com/showthread.php?t=72). You can report posts, by clicking on the little white/red exclamation point sign underneath the name of the user who made the post (See below).
http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s319/SectionVTalksback/ReportingPosts.jpgPLEASE be tactful in your use of this tool and please do NOT use it to turn in someone for an opinion you dislike. Use this ONLY to report blatant violations.
I think all of us who come here, thoroughly enjoy this site. By working to keep the integrity of this site we can help it grow for the future!
