To any high school bowlers or coaches out there...any predictions for county leagues and sectionals?

In Wayne county it looks to be an open race for the title, NRW looks removed from it's pedestal and every team has a decent shot.
1. (upset special) Sodus
2.RC
3.NRW
4.Clyde
5. Lyons

For the Section, I'm predicting a Bloomfield/Desales/Red Creek slugfest for the title. (Class D)

And no, no quick draw at the alleys.....

I always thought it was a rule that you had to drink beer and play quick draw while you are bowling.
Is it different for high school bowling?

not quite. I doubt you've ever been to a high school match, so do yourself a favor and come to Rochester in February for Sectionals. I know this is all in good fun, but why is there a message board if no one treats bowling as a sport?

I'm not sure what to tell you on that.
I just love busting the chops of bowling people. I'm good friends with Mike Pettinella, who is the bowling guru of Batavia, and it's fun to poke a jab or two at the bowling people.
My opinion on bowling is that it's a leisure activity, not a sport. Anything that you get better at as you get more drunk can not be considered a sport. Sorry.
I know people love to throw that heavy black ball at the little wooden pegs, but you aren't exactly going up against another person in competition here.
I haven't bowled in at least 10 years, but I am pretty sure that if you gave me 100 games in two months, I could bowl a 300 (I used to carry a 160 average when I was a kid).
Bowling is fun, but it isn't really a sport. It's a game ... like darts or pool.

We have the Bowling Category because a large number of Schools in Section V do have Bowling and when constructing this website the Webmaster wanted to include all section V sports. We'd love more Bowlers posting on here but quite honestly not everyone knows about us yet, hopefully we have people talking about many different sports eventually. That's all part of spreading the word.

I think it would be rather interesting to find out how many section v schools do offer Bowling? I know no Steuben County schools offer it and I'm pretty sure no Livingston county schools participate and same with Allegany, not postive on those but Pretty sure.

Who does have bowling?

I hate to sound like an alienated high school kid here, but I think your just a bit wrong here. I can only advise you to go to a match between two quality sides and see how competitive it really is.

As for how many teams are out there, I'd say theres at least 50 or 60 teams in Section V, probably 12 in each class.

And for small schools having teams, I'd say Red Creek is pretty small, around 290 kids, and we manage to field a respectable team each year.

Under the tuteledge (sp) of Head Coach Sandy Swingle, Greece Arcadia will win it all again. Swingle for Coach of The Year. As a matter of fact, enshrine him in the Hall of Fame right now. Nobody knows bowling like Sandy. He has a vigorous off season training regimen that all of his bowlers must take place in or you just can't particiapate. Here are some examples.

The 12 oz Curl. This is where you bend the arm repeatedly at the elbow. This strenghthens the neccesary tendons ans muscles that are used to bring your favorite beverage up to your mouth. In this case it is all non-alcoholic as we are talking about high schoolers. However, he is grooming them for the adult leagues after college. They will not have that big of a learning curve. This also helps with using tobacco products, which I am totally against.

The Cheesburger Munch. This is an "athletes" favorite. You practice this several times a week, preferably at a respected burger joint like Bill Grays or Tom Wahls. You indulge in as many burgers as you can. You eat until you feel like you are going to burst. This expands the waistline so you can compete in the aforementioned adult leagues.

The Polyester Shopping Spree. Here is the excersize that seperates the men from the boys. Nothing says more about bowling than the polyester pant. The more "pulls" in them the better, if I have to explain what a "pull" is, than this post is over your head.

I need to get a hobby....hey, maybe I will take up bowling!!!!

Finger Lakes East Boys

The Newark Reds boys bowling team looks again to be the team to beat this winter season. All coaches contacted pointed to the Reds depth and recent history of winning as why they will be hard to stop again this year.

Newark will be led by senior Craig Butler, and sophomores Doug Butler, Josh Smith, and Brent Zeigler.

The Penn Yan Mustang boys team will be returning five senior starters and that makes a serious threat to Newark’s dominance of the FL East.

The five seniors that the Mustang’s will revolve around will be Nate Johnson, Trevor Fleischman, Anthony Gleason, Karl Fleming, and Steven Groom. Sophomore’s Zach Johnson, coach Johnson’s son, and Eric Pulver should be solid additions to the team.

Geneva will be depending on seniors Alex Clark and Keven Keuer along with junior Ryan Rozelle and sophomore Nick Smith to lead a unit that also includes two eighth graders and a seventh grader.

Three seniors, a junior and two sophomores will be the returning core of bowlers for Todd Brockhuizen’s’ Wayne Eagles boys team. Seniors Adam Gunn, Randy Luck, and Bryan Jones, along with junior Jeff Prindle, and sophomore Kolby Tanner comprise that group.

Victor coach Mark Foeder is looking for Jordan Benzing, Nathan Scott, and Jeremy Garvey to anchor his team. As Garvey is the only senior on the team and Foeder is also looking to seventh grader Dylan LaBrake and eighth grader Kody Daily to also help out, youth is a key word in Foeder’s talk about his team.

Randy Eddinger, back in the saddle at the reigns of the Marcus Whitman boys bowling team after a year off, points to those teams with bowling centers in their towns as the teams to always be the ones to beat.

Eddinger is returning his whole starting line up from last year and points to two juniors, Jeremy Armison and Andrew Cornish to lead the way.

Two seniors, a junior and a sophomore will anchor the Mynderse Screaming Eagles boys team. Rich Miller and Nick Capacci are the seniors with Ben Hackney the junior and Brendan McIntyre the sophomore.

Finger Lakes West Boys

Every Finger Lakes West boys bowling coach should shudder when they hear what Bloomfield coach Pat Conklin has to say about his 2007 boys bowling team’s version of last years FL West league champs.

“Our boys team should be just as strong as last year’s team. Possibly stronger,” Conklin stated. The team return’s the heart of last years championship team with Corey Van Buren, Danny Pratt and Dustin Pettingill helping make Conklin make his bold prediction. The Bombers John Aman, a freshman is listed as a newcomer that should contribute to the team’s success.

Randy Yale, coach of the Honeoye Bulldogs boys team, after years of finishing second to Bloomfield in the FL West, is optimistic about his teams chances once again.
“We are looking to win the league, but we have always had Bloomfield in the way. They look tough again this year.”

The Bulldogs are returning seniors Mike O‘Leary and Curtis Evanicki, junior Casey Wright and sophomore Justin Evanicki. David Hubbly is listed as a top newcomer while John Spencer is listed as key loss for the Bulldogs.

Naples is another team retaining a good core of players from last year’s team, with senior’s Matt Smith and Tyler Fox, listed with junior’s Dan Bassett and David Huff listed as key returnees. Sophomore Ben Case will be relied on to supply key help also.-Daily Messenger

Van Buren was strong at sectionals last year, but the other two mentioned looked quite mortal. After losing that one senior, I cant see how B'field could possibly be stronger

Between Monroe County and City-Cathoilc there 31 teams in Monroe County. On the Girls side, Brittani Hamilton of Webster Thomas just signed a letter of intent with Vanderbilt. Kim Yiolous of Irondequoit could be next as she averages 210 and is generating interest from many D1 programs.
