View Full Version : Who will win Class DD?

This class has been won by Finney the last two seasons, can they win a third in a row? Does Coach Marchand have the talent to Three-peat?
J-T is back near the top of the class they won in 1993,1994 & 1998, do they have enough to win another title exactly ten years later in 2008?
Notre-Dame-It's been awhile for Notre-Dame they haven't won a sectional title since 2001 after winning 4 Sectional titles in the 90's winning titles in 1992,1995,1997 & 1999. They've had a little drought after dominating for a few years, Do they have the talent to get Coach Rapone another Sectional title?
Elba-won sectionals in 2005 & was just 3 points away from a trip to Glens Falls losing a Heart Breaker to Pine Valley in the Western Regionals. Can Elba's Big Men lead them to the DD Title in 2008?
Genesee-Valley-Constantly in the conversation when it comes to Sectionals, after winning Titles in 2000,2002, 2003 & 2004 with some classic battles with Notre-Dame during that time frame. Does Coach Baker have enough talent to win a 5th title?

Friday 11/30
J-T @ Genesee Valley
After knocking off perennial powerhouse Whitesville, can Genesee Valley beat the Wildcats in a battle of undefeateds?
Saturday 12/1
Prattsburgh @ ND Batavia
Prattsburgh dominated two games last year. Both teams have a chance to win their own sectionals. What are some predictions?

I think Notre Dame will take over their game against Prattsburg this weekend. They have many more older players than their opponent and their experience at the varsity level will prove to be the deciding factor

Too early to tell. wait a couple of weeks and then that question can be answered. Prattsburgh, Northstar and Notre Dame haven't even played

Well to my knowledge Northstar, Prattsburgh & Notre-Dame haven't played yet, J-T has played 3 games and is 3-0. So i think we need to wait until everyone has played a few games before comparing teams.

Elba has the talent, but do they have the chemistry? Thats the question. A littlle trivia for you. Elba was the team that bounced finney out of the playoffs I believe 3 consecutive years, before Finney started their own dominance.

I remembered that Elba beat Finney Verosky's Junior year because Finney was just starting to show what they could do, they blew out an undermanned Hammondsport team In Hammondsport by 30+. H-Port had a high seed and a great year but lost some key players right before sectionals who were busted drinking, and Finney came down as an lower seed and hammered them pretty good.

At this point I think Notre Dame has to be the favorite based on who they are returning. They have alot of talent back and I've heard they looked really good in summer leagues.
Elba is going to be dangerous in sectional just because of their size inside. The only question is if their guard play can catch up enough to compete.
Genesee Valley always seems to be in the hunt and in a wide open class I don't see any reason why the wouldn't be again.
I think the real wild card is Finney. They start a freshman and three sophomores so they are very young. However there is a lot of talent there that will be developed under Coach Marchand. By sectionals who knows how good this team will be and if they can compete for a third straight title.
Those are my picks for who will be the last 4 teams standing this year, but of course this could change as we learn more about the teams as the year goes on.

Your dead on with that report. The night we beat Finney it was in Avon and what I could not believe was that Romulus beat Genesee-Valley that night. I though for sure that if we made the sectional finals we would have to play GV. Romulus was very tuff though with Rolenitis and McCullough.( sorry about the spelling)

J-T knocked off Genesee Valley in GV 47-44. Poorly officiated game thoughout. J-T could've won by 15 but poor foul shooting at the end and a couple bad calls allowed GV to get back in it.

Yes, Joezam1, I also remember this night. I remember it being one of the best games we played in that year even though we lost.
UNC: Finney only beat Hammondsport by 16, but I do agree that if they had a full roster the game would have been much closer. I still believe that it would have been a close game, but either team wins by 5 or less.

I think you are right, this will be a good game. I have to give the upper hand to Fillmore in this one only because Finney is so young and inexperienced. The game will swing 5 points either way, in my opinion.

46-32. I didn't think 5pts was a wide enough margin yesterday. This Finney team if they aren't hitting from 3 really struggle to score and they don't have the shooters who will consistantly hit the three like the past few years. They have some great athletes, just not a lot of highly skilled basketball players.

i think that fillmore is as good as BND and that those 2 teams will probably meet in the finals. but i also think that once finney puts everything together on offense they could be a team to watch out for come sectional time.

You are right, but their struggle right now is to find two people who can put up double digits, every night. And they don't have a go to guy who will hit shots in tight games 99% of the time.

I have to say almost without a doubt that ND will lay the smackdown in DD. They are bulldozing teams. With Bochicchio and Francis going strong, who can stop them?
hoopsfan35
12-19-2007, 09:53 PM
I would be suprised if ND dominates everyone in DD. There are some quality teams. They have been dominating teams so far but it's always a different story come sectionals. They are probably going to be the favorite to win though should Francis and Boccichio (i probly messed up his name so i apologize) stay healthy

I think ND will plow over every team in DD. Won't matter what they do against Batavia.
I've said it time and time again, but their lack of a big man will definitely hinder their chances at a state title.

The games that matter are in sectionals. i will say that ND will be the favorite to win it all, but to say that they will steamroll over all of the teams in DD is pushing it. Talk to me again after sectionals if they do what you say. 2004 semis. do some research

I don't need research. This isn't 2004. This is 2007 and about to be 2008. Most kids on this team weren't even in high school in '04.

Elba played well in the beginning. Woodworth had a big game, but ND's defense caused so many turnovers and Elba made a lot of mistakes. Rocco kept putting up 3's and airballing (even though he did make 4), and they did not play to their strengths. ND dominated after the first quarter, but Elba is a tough team still. Bochicchio and Francis both had huge games. Bo had 21 while kevin had 20. And Mark Fanton had a good game as well. ND's depth and chemistry is what is going to take them places.

Anyone see Romulus play yet? i see they beat HAC tonight in OT. are they for real?
UNCTarheels
12-26-2007, 09:08 AM
Yes I saw them play it was actually my first game of the year, Romulus vs. Lima Christain in the Campbell Tip-off and I was not impressed. Someone else asked on another thread, and I tell you the game was awful and I wasn't impressed with either team. To their defense it was their second game of the year so it's probably not going to be a well excuted game and it was sloppy. I didn't see anyone out on the floor who impressed me but Jeremy Reynolds put up 43 vs. Naples and 33 vs. H-A-C so he's obviously good it just took him a few games to get into the groove. Maybe Romulus is for real, although beating H-A-C is the first really good team they've beat and they don't play much defense so I think we better wait a while before making them a serious contender yet. My friend Luke has seen them 3 times including a loss to Dundee and said he didn't see a Sectional Title contender in that team.
