Those are definately the biggest two, but oakfield-elba and oakfield-ND are two others which are pretty big.

yea i'd have to say historically, elba-nd is the biggest. The hatred beteween schools, towns, and teams is insane. The fact that the programs have been so successful gives it the edge over attica-alexander. However, the past couple years has seen nd-oa games be arguably more intense than any others.

Expect anything to happen in this game, especially the last couple of years. If I saw this game on my schedule, you can't help but get a little more excited. You know you have to be at the top of your game. The crowds, no matter where the game is played, will be intense. I have had this game where I couldn't even hear the whistle blow, and I was the one that blew it!!!! Great Great High School basketball atmosphere.

I'm a bit late coming to the ND-Elba rivalry but let me say that it goes deeper than the players & students 'cause I've seen it and it's ugly.

Last year I was at cheerleading sectionals sitting with the ND section and the Elba people were sitting just across the stairs from us. When ND was on the floor there were Elba PARENTS ... not students, these were adults ... screaming "Fall, Fall". I'm sure they would have been pleased if a stunt came down & someone was injured.

Obviously, this rivalry must go back 20 - 30 years, did someone have a bad experience with a leprechaun back in the '80's?

The atmosphere is crazy. Takes a lot of composure to play that high caliber of a game.

In any rivalry knowing that the team you are playing has you circled on their calander from day one is a lot to hande

This is probably the greatest rivalry but I do not think the game on Wednesday will be as crazy as the one in Atticva will be as I hear the reports of Wolfley being out. Seeing how the best player in the league will not be playing may lessen the game but im sure it will still be competitive with Alexander coming on top.

Alexander and Attica is very intense especially since Alexander can compete with them now. Last year they split and this year with out Wolfley Alexander has a chance but if they get out to rough start like they have been the last three games they will come up short. Alexander has a lot of heart but some times that's not enough. Josh Bender come to play every game but the other guys sometiimes just don't show up. They have talent and hopefully the coach makes some changes soon to turn things around. Attica has mission tonight to prove to everybody in the GR they can win without Wolfley so Alexander should be prepare for that.

What do you mean the Redsox keep beating the Yankees! The Yankees and Redsox havn't played each other in the playoffs since 2004. The Yankees have won the season series between them and Boston for many years in a row and you must not forget the 5 game Boston Massacre back in August of '06. Actually, the yankees have won the season series between the two at least 8 out of the last ten years. And until last season, they had won the division i think seven years in a row.

I think that statement was proven tonight. The gym was so loud you couldn't hear the person next to you. Notre Dame's cheering section has definitely improved as the season as gone on and got the place rocking.

attica and alexander may have more bad blood between them than elba and nd, though it is close, but strictly on a basketball level, the edge is to elba nd. Historically, and this season, elba and nd are better basketball programs than attica and alexander. The level of play brings the rivalry to another level.

I think that the atmosphere of the elba-nd game was so loud cuz of the gym size. had the alexander-attica game been in the nd gym i don't think that anybody would be able to hear a thing. still. but as far as the level of basketball, i think that historically elba-nd is the best, and this year is an off year for elba, who still managed a good push early in the game.

I agree, the reason i think attica-alexander rivalry is more heated than ND-elba is because the rivalry is actually a school rivalry, not just a basketball rivalry. attica-alexander is a heated rivalry in all of the main team sports and they all pull a very large crowd, so that atmosphere carries on into the basketball court.

Interesting arguments, just back from vacation so I must give my take. The Elba ND rivalry does go beyond basketball..BELIEVE ME..The reason why, Is because for many years Elba and ND were much alike. We battled in hoops, football, baseball and onion tossing..LOL...Its heated and why would my brother and his family leave elba...maybe because like Berask said..I got it stuck in a place where noone should go..I did watch afew ND games, great kids at ND Bo and Mancuso and many others seem to be top notch kids, and Mike Rapone has been a good friend of mine for longer than I was coaching..And ready for this..I would love to coach at ND someday..football or basketball..my perspective is that ND is what I wanted Elba to be..GReat kids, commaraderie with the coaches (sorry about the spelling) and great fan support..and winning teams..kids that loved to play the game..So when at ND games I for sure cheer for ND, and when I go to Elba games I will cheer for my Nephews who play as well as all the other hard working nice kids that Elba has...I wish them all well, its not the kids fault what happened to me..So good luck to all and Merry Christmas!!!

I hate to tell you, but the Elba ND rivalry has always been there and always will. There is only one Zambito kid going to ND and he is a JV player. Who cares. That was just a convenient reason to switch schools. What happened to coach Z was a travesty, but has nothing to do with the players or current coaches.

I think it goes farther than that - I think it is a town rivalry. There are people that I know from both towns that just hate the other town. I can almost see some of them driving out of their way to not have to drive through the other town. I am sure there are people in Alexander that would drive to Batavia to get their groceries to avoid having to go into Attica. Thats why I think it is one of the most intense rivalries I have been around...the people just absolutely despise the other town, the people in it, and everything else about it.

It's definitely an intense rivalry but I have yet to meet an adult that avoids Rt. 98 because of it, haha.

I understand. My point was that it really is not a factor with Elba. There are four Zambito relatives on the varsity team right now for Elba. Notre dame and obviously the one relative that moved are the only ones that it seems to be relevant too. It may have sparked the rivalry a bit for ND, I guess I understand why they would think it mattered given the name and all.

Byron-Bergen-hated rivals. no competition on basketball court, although lately has provided close games for some reason. fans hate one another, shootings, destruction of a car, cops, fights, racial suggestions all broken out by rivalry
Elba-Biggest rival, relatively classless, players always matchup well, records don't matter when playing this game, but both teams are still usually very good.
Holley-no rivalry. no competition

Lyndonville-Past few years has found a way to beat us once, nothing close this year
Notre-Dame-very good game. oakfield hasn't beat nd in past few years, only play once this year, led to one of the best gr games of the year
Pembroke-always a good game. close this year, as all of them have been, klotzbach banned from school, cop questioned w/o telling him why, oa boys kicked out of girls game, 6 men are there for oa game. lots of drama between these two teams

overall, the best rivals for oa are-elba, nd, attica, and pembroke, in that order. nd and elba are about even

I honestly think that there has been a new GR rivalry started with Kendall and Notre Dame, every stupid thing i did last year, the loss of ND key players, it makes ND-Kendall a Laureano v. Francis game and theres alot of anticipation for that game in our school. I will not be posting on here during basketball season due to same thing as quesadilla but you wait and see.
