i haven't heard many people talking about cal-mum making a big run, but i'm thinking they have a great shot to make a run at states.
claire bennett is a great pitcher and sarah backus is a fifth year starter at catcher. softball is all about the battery and this one is as good as there is out there.
does anybody else think cal-mum has a shot to repeat as sectional champs and maybe make a run at states?

Don't foget about the pride of Allegany County - the lady Wolverines of Bolivar Richburg, the defending state champs. They lost 3 non starters to graduation, the rest of the team is back with most of them juniors.:)

is just a good team if you take away Ingalls. However, she isn't being taken away so I make them the favorite to take the state title, again. Cal-Mum does have a great pitcher and catcher, Bennett & Backus. I'm not sure they have enough to go with them, however.

my view on softball is that pitching and catching is the difference. i'm sure b-r has a good battery as well, but once you get deep into the playoffs most of the games are 1-0.

Cal-Mum will struggle to get out of their own sectional bracket-let alone go on to beat Bolivar-Richburg.

Other than Honeoye and Lindsay Grace who else in CCC will contend with Cal-Mum?
Kearney
Holly
Pembroke
Addison
Campbell-Savona
Marion
Letchworth
East-Rochester
Cuba-Rushford
Addison usually has a strong Softball team but I'm not sure they'll have the pitching this season to contend with Bennett from Cal-Mum and Grace from Honeoye. I know Campbell-Savona is going to be mediocre at best this year, I'm not sure what the others have but Pitching is the key now a days and both Cal-Mum and Honeoye have that.

Not only is Honeoye a threat, Id be surprised if Cal-Mum could get by Pembroke(defending B champs) or east Rochester who they barely beat last year.

seems to have trouble getting past that Livingston County League, Perry & Cal-Mum. I think their know it all coach is full of humble pie the last two years, lol.

I may have "Jumped the Gun" a bit as Addison opened the season last night with a 2-0 shutout victory over class A Corning-East from Section IV

Looks like Cal-Mum was a bit overhyped 15-4....wow

This is a BB School who won Sectionals last season, so it's not like they lost to a "Cup Cake" but 15-4 is a little more lopsided than i would have thought, playing a team like Way-Co for your season opener is a tough one. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Cal-Mum goes on a long winning streak after that loss.

I heard that Bennett is still suffering from a basketball injury. No shame in losing to Way-Co. 1st game, wouldn't read too much into that.

I know The Daily News Staff loves Claire and makes sure that she is the headline every night she pitches. And Wayland is a very good softball team. but giving up 15 runs for a top pitcher especially one touted so highly is not a good sign to open the season.

Looks like good weather should be coming the next few days. Any good games being played?
Which daily news are you talking about? I dont think they cover too many Liv. County teams besides LeRoy

Batavia would have Bennet as the headline even though other pitchers had much better games. But this year Livingston County News made it clear that its all Bennet this year in their forcast also. Its bennett fever! With Honeoye and Pembroke in their class I don't see the even in the CCC finals. But that is why they play games. I could be very wrong. But that is just my opinion. Both papers are owned by the same company.

With this attack you must be Hillabush. Oh whats a matter did I hit a soft spot. I can prove it with your own papers and your comments on your blogs. It would be nice if you give the headlines to the best players for that day. That is what a reporter is supose to do.

i either put the top story or lead with where the photog goes. i'm sure you want your daughter to be the top story every day, but i try to be fair. and aren't you the one that wants to keep padding stats. is she trying to get into a d3 school and needs some extra Ks?

What are these valid points you speak of? Is it that you think by playing in a league with a mercy rule your daughter is at a disadvantage? Maybe by learning that high school softball is meant to be fun, and not a stage to embarrass less talented teams and players, she'll learn the concept of class; a virtue you don't seem to be instilling in her.
PS. If every player/team in the area got the publicity their parents thought they were entitled to the Daily News would have 20 lead stories a day. Hillabush is doing his job to the best of his ability in a professional manner; he's just an easy target, and a cheap one at that.

By the sounds of it you seem awfully jealous of all these other good pitchers, and seem to be blaming everybody else. Its obvious your daughter is a pitcher who didnt get the props like Lyndsey Grace(all-stateleague mvp, chelsea cary all-state, league mvp, mary bostwick-all stats, claire bennett-league mvp/all-state)
I am pretty sure that alot of sports write-ups has to with when and if coaches call their stats/results in. Some coaches dont do it, as you often don't see scores in the paper the next day.

As someone who has (and will be again soon) worked in the sports department for a local newspaper, I completely agree with hilly. Where the photographers go is who gets the lead. Who decides that? The editor (at least in my experience). If you have a problem with who's getting headlines, bring it up with the editor. Reporters cover ASSIGNMENTS - games we're told to cover. It's our job to write about them, not decide which ones we do.

I do not get a chance to read the Batavia Daily too often, but I do notice that Hilly supports all GR and Batavia Daily News teams that are covered by them. One article i can remember reading is an article on Alexander's boys basketball coach and how he is trying to turn the program around(Think UB football) anyways they had only like 3 or 4 wins that year but have moved up to a .500 team..............my point being is he could've chosen to cover Buddy's boys or Mike Rapone's teams and forgotten very easily of the other teams in their area.
I am thinking that 1 of 3 things is happeneing with softball dad
1. He is trying to live his life thorugh his daughter(I'm her travel coach, and she should have this headline, and if there was no mercy rule she would have this many more strikeouts)
2. He is jealous/selfish
3. He was the last guy picked in gym class when they use to pick teams.... before the wussicfication of America
2.

First of all the Stories have nothing to do with any pictures. So try again. Hilly showed how much of a professional he is by attacking me personally instead of trying to explain his point. real mature! I guess you can understand him because you are right on his level. I did not intend for this to be a name calling thing. I just brouhgt up some things I noticed in Section V softball and in the papers. But as it is here and on the Internet everywhere it brings out the worst in people. Because they arn't face to face. So they will be Rude at any chance they can. It makes them feel good about themselves. Well I didn't want to repley to this ongoing diplay of childish behavior. When we should be talking about softball. So I will not answer any more of this. I am sorry for what I have caused to the people who have come here to read about softball, not people hiding behind their keyboards verbally abusing each other. I have better things to do than to argue with people. You dont know me. There are other web sites you can go if you want to attack people you don't Know. If you have a problem with me reply to just me. Or you wont get an answer.

Daily news runs six days a week. I do not have any problems with Hillys articles or anyone elses in the paper it was not an attack on his or anyone elses writing. Furthermore I do agree that the paper should cover all the team that are stories. Like improving teams and teams and players that are at thet top of their games. In all sports. I know that the paper only gives them so much space to do it in. I wasn't tring to say that one person wasn't getting enough headlines. I just noticed that one was. Even if she had a mediocre game compared to other players. It had nothing to do with who was taking the pictures or who wrote the article. I am pretty sure that all the capsules were called in and no reporter was on site at the game. All i wanted to say is after all the calls are received from the coaches that they could take the best preformance of the day and headline that player or team. I just want it to be fair to everyone. Also If a reporter was sent to a game it should be the headline. We all know with all the sports they cant go to any team in a sport even once a week. So if you all took me in a wrong way I am Sorry! But once I was attacked I returned the favor.

Hey "Softball Dad". Explain this to me. How does Bennett beat Bostwick and Oakfield, Grace and Honeoye, Sheppard and Bloomfield, lead Cal-Mum to the championship, be named MVP of the tournament, and still be placed behind all those players on the all state teams? Maybe it's time she received MORE press. Maybe it's time that her coach padded her stats the way most coaches do. Twice she's been taken out of the game when she had a no hitter going. Meanwhile Grace pitches 18-0 no hitters. By the way, before you go spouting off about things, learn the facts first, please. She did NOT give up 15 runs vs Wayland. She tried pitching hurt and didn't even finish the game. Also, if you knew anything about news articles you would know that sometimes stories are "put to bed" before some games are even played, such as the Wayland game, so relax, just enjoy the fact that Cal-Mum got pounded. But remember this Cal-Mum haters, they might not win the sectionals again this year, the field is loaded, but you will never be able to take away their championship from last year. So just relax "Softball Dad", your time will come. Why,even the great Bolivar team will become just another average team once Ingalls graduates. All in time, all in time.

jammer 24 well done my friend!!!!
Softball Dad is a wannabee who never made it and now he lives for the game of softball. He is Jim Rome's version of Softball Guy, a player who couldn't make it on the baseball field and now tries to dominate the undertalented softball diamond.
He knows absolutely NOTHING about newspapers.
If he wants to get better sports coverage than the Livingston County News or Batavia Daily News maybe he should start reading the D and C, they really care about Warsaw!!!!
Maybe he should start thanking the local papers for even covering the game of softball.
By the way, I guess Claire Bennett and Cal-Mum didn't deserve the Livingston County News front page after beating the cream of the crop last year for the sectional title.
I guess his daughter and their .500 team should have gotten the ink!!!
