Looking back over the years, what are the best games you've ever seen?

Steuben County Championships in Bath Campbell Defeated Prattsburgh 76-74 in front of a packed house. I was 14 years old, I remember it well as it was the Game that made me fall in love with Basketball. My older brother played for Avoca who was playing in the 3rd place game prior to the Championship game, it was a Saturday night and the NBA Slam Dunk Contest was on T.V and I wanted to stay home and watch it but my Mom wouldn't let me she made me go, I remember throwing a fit but I just taped the Dunk Contest.

I remember seeing the people piling in filling Bath's large gym and wondered what all of the fuss was. My Mother Graduated from Prattsburgh and wanted to stay and watch them play. It was by far to this day the best game I've ever seen even beating out the epic battles the two teams had last season. Even though Prattsburgh lost the game and I'm obviously a huge fan of theirs it was a fantastic game. Prattsburgh was the dominant force at the time and Campbell was the underdog and they went back-and-forth the whole game and it came down to key foul shots at the end. I remember Coach Mike Wright from Campbell and Coach Burke from Prattsburgh playing a "Chess Game" back-and-forth with coaching strategies and subbing guys in and out. It was a game I'll never forget..................

Red Creek beating Honeoye 2 years after Red Creek's 2005 soccer state championship. Red Creek had gone 2-16 in their season and was a really low seed and Honeoye was a high seed and had home court. Red Creek was down by 9 with 2 minutes left and the whole Honeoye crowd was cheering "This Ain't soccer" but Red Creek came back with 3 straight 3's and ended up winning in overtime.

I thought I would add my thoughts to this topic. Usually when you think of the best game ever, it is a game that had something on the line. No offense to some of the previous posters, but regular season games that in the grand scheme of things mean nothing, to me, mean hardly anything. But then I got to thinking that alot of schools really never do play a meaningful championship game in their sport, so I understand how some regular season games have more meaning....anyway....

By far, the greatest game that I have seen was back in 1991, the Class D/DD playoff between Prattsburgh and Honeoye. The game was held at SUNY Geneseo and it was played in front of 4,000 people. Honeoye had Ralph Angelo and Prattsburgh of course had their multi-talented undefeated squad. The game went back and forth but Prattsburgh was able to pull away at the end. Prattsburgh's Brian Putnam had a break away layup at the end of the game and was intentionally fouled hard by Angelo, which kind of put a sour note on a great night For Prattsburgh, this game fell right in the middle of three games in three straight nights. Not just three regular season games, but three state qualifying games. The contests were delayed because of the 1991 ice storm. But imagine, 4,000 people for a Class D game and it lived up to everything that night and it will be something that I, nor anyone in attendance that evening, will ever forget.

Another great game was a couple of weeks later when Prattsburgh won the state championship. Of course, any game in which a team wins a state championship is great, but this night was different. Here was Prattsburgh, who came back from a 14 point 4th quarter defecit the day before against Bridgehampton, playing Argyle, a team located just 11 miles from Glens Falls. The Civic Center was PACKED to capacity that night for that game with over 5,500 fans in attendance, and if you dont believe me, check out the picture in the Prattsburgh school. There was probably 1,000 people total in that crowd rooting for Prattsburgh and the rest for Argyle. The game went back and forth and Prattsburgh was finally able to put Argyle away 80-72. St. Patricks Day weekend and the green and white Vikings came away with a state championship and a 29-0 record!!!

Best 2 games I have ever seen would be either #1 Class C team CS v. #1 Class D Prattsburgh the first time and CS state final game v. Stillwater.

I will never forget either of these games with the CS v. Prattsburgh game comin down to the final seconds and the tip in and it being a one point game and for the fact that it was teh 2 #1 teams in their respective classifications. It was a packed Campbell gym with people standing all over...Amazing game.

State finals with everyone saying wow it was nice coming to Glens Falls atleast we made it to the finals with CS going up against a team who scored 80 pts in the semi-finals. CS played tremendous defense and another game that came down to the final seconds with key free-throws being the difference along with the shut down D on Stillwaters guards.

Here's one. Notre Dame vs. Elba in the girls sectional championships.
Back and forth all game and Ali Haitz drains a 3-pointer at the buzzer to win the game.
I don't know if I'll ever see a more exciting finish to a game than that one.

I didn't get to see this game but I can't imagine it compares to the 2002 ND vs. OA matchup played at Oakfield. There were so many people in attendance that they had to put three rows of chairs behind the players bench to try to fit everyone in. Both teams were undefeated in the GR's and led by high caliber athletes.

In 2002 I think J-T vs. Alfred-Almond in the semis of the county tournament. J-T won in overtime but it was the shot the sent it to overtime that made it memorable. J-T's Drew Wheaton's full court shot that went in off the backboard has pretty much become known as "the shot" to everyone that was there.

In 05 at looked as though Elbas streak of 7 years without a loss to OA had come to an end..With 5 seconds to go OA was up 3 and was in-bounding the ball from mid-court. Tim Maid stole the ball and passed to Ciaci Z. who hit a three at the buzzer to send the game into ot where we found a way to get by OA and my good friend coach Holly. What a game that was...On a sidenote, good luck to OA and coach Holly in the sectionals.(sorry if i spelled coaches name wrong)

You apologize for maybe misspelling Coach Holley's name, yet make a post with the word "stoled" Are you a teacher Joe?

Alexander Pembroke last year. Corey Stearns shot a 3 at the buzzer to tie the game and send it into overtime, Alexander won (not sure the score) and the crowd rushed the floor.

First of all Joe, you can't misspell a word that doesn't exist(stoled) Secondly, if I had to apologize for every bad call I made, that would have been twice. LOL

Joe Joe Joe,

You are supposedly an educator. You should know that STOLED is not a word.

It might have been three

I don't know about you two. Come on Old School78. Do you get off on picking fights? It seems like you're on here just to disagree no matter what is said. You're both adults, I think. Can't we all just get along?

You are really an easy target so I took my shot. You tell us all how great you are, yet you butcher the english language. I just felt the need to put that out there. Joe, sorry if I offended you or anybody else. I am done with this topic and posting on this site. It's not worth it.

Once again you cant stop can you. At least people know who I am. If you call "stoled" butchering the english language then you definitely have too much time on your hands. And please tell me when I said how great I was, please prove it to me. You get off staying things to me and other people that never happened. You love to insult people, does it give you thrills to take pot shots or something. Obviously I offended you in the past, I guess it was a travel..Peace.

The 'e' in "english language" should be capitalized.

Stop butchering the English language.

I am also annoyed with your lack of ability to post a reply without the quote in the right place. Furthermore, this is an internet forum, and thus I was not aware that perfect grammer and spelling were necessary. Finally, I feel that your calling out of a respected adult is unnecessary.

One last note:
I do not appreciate your turning Coach Zambito's worthwhile post about a very good game into a thread about the butchering of the English language.

I have one to fall in this category. Two years ago Dundee was at Red Jacket and trailed by 12 or 14 after a quarter. The score was cut into each quarter, and after 4 quarters, it was tied. In the first overtime there was very little scoring. In the second, RJ hit a three to tie the game with a few seconds left. In the third OT, RJ hit a three to go up three with 5 seconds left. Dundee got the inbounds to near half court and after a quick pass to the corner, they hit a three. The buzzer sounded just after it left his hands. The 4th OT was anti climatic as RJ pulled away, but it didn't need to be. This was the greatest game I have seen.
