Arkport has dominated throughout the season, but now with two of their best players, Gee and Talbot, up on varsity it will be interesting to see if this hurts their chances for the county championship. I think they should have stayed down so that they could learn to finish a season out with a championship. This could hurt their varsity in the future. Risky move and selfish of the varsity program.

Those two players didn't really help the varsity against Prattsburgh. I could see moving them up for sectionals but I think it was too early.

the key is monving up kids are they playing at least half of the game???? do they get along with the varsity team???? are there injuries on the varsity team???? when you bring up kids this late in the season it does not work out very well the varsity players get mad when the jv players takw there minutes. i would have kept those 2 players down an undefeated season hardly ever comes along in any level. bring them up for sectionals and then role with your best players.

Moving kids up a week or so before sectionals is many times about getting them practice time with the varsity squad and getting them in the game a little bit before sectionals. One of the main purposes of JV is to get players trained and ready for varsity. If you have a kid down on JV that you think will play a role in sectionals you want to get them up a little earlier so they can get a bit of practice and game experience in - thats the bottom line.

If you have a kid on jv that would make an impact on such an important game, then why wasn't he on varsity to begin with? I would bring up those kids at the beginning of the year because you cannot get better as a player by playing other teams that cannot compete with you. If you give the underclassmen kids a full year to find himself at the varsity level, then you can have more hope that he will make more of an impact when he is called upon in big games like sectionals. As for Arkport, Coach Aiken should've brough up those jv kids even earlier. It may have hurt your jv team in the short run but it will improve your varsity team by the time those kids are seniors

I don't see how it is a risky move. Call it selfish, but the JV program is there to be a feeder for the varsity team. My freshman year we went undefeated as a JV team, and nobody really cared because the varsity team lost in the sectional finals. Smalt spent the whole year on JV and gained nothing from it other than a JV championship, instead of spending a year on the varsity squad and getting the experience of going against better players night in and night out. Then in sectionals ran into Geneseo who had a good post player that year and the lack of experience against good posts showed.

If the player is good enough to play a role come playoff time, but isn't going to crack the rotation at the beginning of the season, then I see no problem with leaving them down. But if it's a player who is just going to dominate at the JV level then what's the point?

If you're saying it's risky because it will jeopardize the chances of an undefeated JV season, two points. A) Does it really matter? It's a JV team. And B) If the coaches think it does matter, then they should have held the kids in question out of some games during the regular season. It's not uncommon to have kids sit out 3 games during the JV season against weaker opponents so that they can play in both county tournaments. (You can play in 20 games total for the regular season. By sitting 3 JV games, you can play in the JV county tournament and only have 17 games in, allowing the extra 3 with varsity.)

If you're saying it's risky because it might hurt somebody's feelings on the varsity team, then the selfishness is coming from an individual and is hurting the team concept.
