On a statewide level, what is Section V's strongest sport? Section 3 has lacrosse, Section 1 is very dominant in Basketball (Mt Vernon, Peekskill). What is our best sport?

The reason I voted for Basketball is just as much for the girls as the boys, Section V girls constantly dominate Section VI, placing 5 section V girls teams in the Final Four in 2006 and 4 of 5 in 2007. Section V won 4 State Titles in Basketball last year (R-H & Pitt-Sutherland Girls, Campbell-Savona & Finney boys) And two this year (R-H girls, Finney boys) but had 7 teams in the Final fours, (Newark, Romulus & Bloomfield girls, Campbell-Savona & Fairport boys) So I'd say that's pretty good.

I didn't see that it specifically said Boys, My apologies for that. Just boys statewide I would have to say Wrestling.

i voted for wrestling. we are very good in basketball, but section 5 always has state champions. i know wrestling isn't as popular as basketball, but very good around here.

Ian Paddock from Warsaw just won a national wrestling title, the sophomore Nationals 119 lbs title at the National High School Coaches Association wrestling championships last Friday at the Virginia Beach (Va) Convention Center. Ian a two-time New York state champion went 5-0 in gaining his national title. On his way to the title Ian went the distance in all but one of his matches, something he seldom did on his way to his perfect 47-0 record this past season in winning the 119 lbs New York state title.

Ian defeated Bryce Klum (Oregon) 10-2 in his first round match before earning a 7-0 victory over Brandon Rocha (California) in his second round bout. Ian then recorded a 17-0 technical fall win over Nebraska state champion Matt Katusin in his quarterfinal match before topping defending Texas State champion Erik Spiut 8-1 in the semifinals. In the championship match Ian would defeat Virginia State champion Mike Garofalo by an 8-2 score.-Livingston County News

I think it is actually a toss up between wrestling and cross country. But I chose cross country just because it is one of the most forgotten sports due to the dullness of watching a race. But this past year, the section v teams in each class finished:
AA- 6th place
A- 1st place
B- 2nd place
C- 2nd place
D- 4th place

and individual teams of Victor taking 2nd place at states and Honeoye Falls-Lima winning states.
Cross country doesn't get a lot of publicity, but I think they are very good on the state level. Wrestling is also very amazing too. But I don't know too much of how well the teams did this past year. All I know is that they are very good. So if someone could summarize how well the wrestling teams did, that would be greatly appreciated. I would also appreciate it if other people that disagree with me could say how well the section v sports did at the state level. It's a nice way for everyone to see the facts, instead of possible biased opinions.
