Pal-Mac’s Rodenhouse to compete on higher level in track competitions
Palmyra-Macedon senior Emily Rodenhouse competed in the "Kat's Early Open" track and field meet at Erie Community College 's Jim Ball stadium located right next to Orchard Park , home of the Buffalo Bills, on March 30. Rodenhouse, who will not be competing for the Red Raider track team this spring, will be competing as an "unattached" athlete in her own series of meets which include several 5k road races and track meets.
An "unattached" athlete is one that has no affiliation with a team and therefore the "unattached" athletes points will not be accumulated in the team scoring at track meets but will be able to compete against all competitors at the given meet. Since Rodenhouse has no affiliation with a high school track team, she is able to compete against the collegiate teams that host open track meets as she no longer has high school athletic liability.
Rodenhouse kicked off her spring tour competing against runners from Erie Community College , Alfred State , Finger Lakes Community College and Daemen College Running Club. Rodenhouse placed 2nd overall in the 1,500-meter run with an impressive season opening time of 5:27.1 minutes and an overall 3rd place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:38.6 minutes.
Rodenhouse is hands down the most decorated indoor track and field athlete the Pal-Mac Red Raiders have ever had. She owns more school records (8) than any other indoor track athlete which include the 400-meter dash (65.15), 600-meter run (1:44.86), 800-meter run (2:33.5), 1,000-meter run (3:13.17), 1,500-meter run (5:08.72), 3,000-meter run (11:01.4) and is a member of the school record 4x400-meter relay (4:30.48) and the 4x800-meter relay (11:15). On top of that, she also holds the outdoor track and field school records in the 2,000-meter steeplechase (7:40.8) and the 3,000-meter run (10:52.56) along with being a member of the outdoor school record 4x400-meter relay (4:14.69) and 4x800-meter relay (10:37.6) and along with that she also set the school record for most team points in a single season with a jaw dropping 200 1/4 points while scoring 25 of the teams 63 total points in last years Sectional meet. If Rodenhouse's resume wasn't already long enough, she adds a school record for the fastest time ever run in cross country (18:56) while representing New York State three consecutive times as a four time team MVP.
