hey hilly, you mentioned earlier that barker sucks. Are they that bad? I play for Caledonia-Mumford and we have them in the first round on Saturday.

i'm not sure what their record is, but if the baseball team is as good as the football or basketball team, they aren't going to be good.

I've that a couple of OA's baseball players were caught drinking, and have been suspeneded. If it is true, those players includes their ace Kirkum.

Durham, Kirkum and Doran all were not at the tournament today. I heard there was one more player but I don't know his name. The rumor is that they got caught drinking.

It's a shame. Didn't OA's football team have a lot of their betterplayers suspended for drinking 5 years ago or so?

this problem has become a regular thing in the area. in the last 6-7 years there have been players suspended from teams at oakfield, elba, batavia, notre dame, holley and alexander that i know about, all for drinking or drugs (pot).
it would be a total lie if i said that i never had a drink with my friends when in high school. kids will be kids. but today schools are very sensitive about student athletes drinking, and everybody has a camera phone and a myspace, so it really isn't hard find out who is doing it. i know an example of a former student athlete that went to a party on a saturday night and the next day there were several pics of high school kids with beer.
i can't support underage drinking - the law is there for a reason - but i do understand it happens. some of these kids that have been suspended, in this case and previous ones, are good kids that made a mistake.
i don't know how bad this problem is in other areas, but every season i hear of at least a few kids that get in trouble for this in section 5.
maybe it's time for somebody - either the schools or section 5 officials - to educate student athletes on the dangers of drugs, drinking and driving while doing either. i'm sure schools talk about it in health classes and such, but maybe somebody needs to make sure kids that play sports know exactly what will happen if they get caught. last i knew, students basically had to sign a code of conduct and that was about it. there was a former girls basketball player from the GR that was going to get a scholarship from syracuse, but got caught smoking pot and lost it. she was suspended from the team and i never heard about her playing basketball again. she lost out on a free education and maybe it could have been prevented with some extra education.

I think Oakfield's A.D. is trying to send a message by making an example of a high profile player like Kirkum.
