At the Penn Relays College Women's Distance Medley Relay Championship, Alicia Follmar was running with the leaders one second then down on the ground in a hard fall the next second. And if that wasn't enough---she was spiked in the head as another runner attempted to hurdle over her. Even though she was hurt, Follmar knew her Stanford University teammates were counting on her so she jumped up and finished her leg in 3rd place with a steady stream of blood running down the side of her head. As soon as she handed off the baton Follmar was surrounded by members of the University of Pennsylvania medical staff, but Follmar refused to leave the track or get help until her team finished the race. Stanford would go onto finish 3rd, but it is Follmar's gutsy performance that was the talk following the event. For her courageous race Alica Follmar, has been named Athletes Only Athlete of the Week for the week of April 28th.

That is awesome...there was something like this last year with the girl in a X-Country race who broke her leg something like 10 ft from the finish line n crawled the rest of the way

I just want to see what she fell on i can see how a brushburn would happen but how is she gushing from the head lol thats crazy

haha i would be proud of that moment if i was her. most people would just lay there on the track if they had just gotten spiked in the head.

exactly. that's what's so cool about being spiked in the head. it can't hurt all that bad. and when you're done running you can think... yeah i'm a badass
