I went and watched some of the Bath boys and girls compete today. Andre McCloud seemed to toy with the field in the dashes. He was FAT timed in 10.95 in the 100 winning easily by 10 yards. He set an unbelievable school record in the long jump traveling 23' 11". That has to be one of the top jumps in the state I would think ?? He beat the school record by like a foot and a half ! He came around the straight away in the 200 behind and then accelerated to win by 7-10 yards again. ( smiling ) Bath's 4x100 ( not sure if I'm using the right lingo.. not a great track guy ) dominated the entire race and won easily. Emily Johns broke a school record in the high jump clearing 5' 3". I think Andre's sister Lakeshia broke a school record going 17' 5" in the long jump. Sean Ainsworth just got edged out by a Hornell runner in the 800. He ran a great race. I think brother Ryan tied for second in the high jump going 5' 10". That's all I got. It was fun watching the kids compete. Nice facility at Cal Mum.

Actually looking at the NY Sportswriters site, it was actually "The" longest jump in the state this year. Wow is there anything this kid isn't good at?

No one said that the other athletes on Bath's team didn't do well or deserve recognition. He just obliterated the school record in the long jump and has the longest jump in the state this year, he certainly is worthy of the accolades. In all fairness most of us have no idea what even went on at the meet, because the results of the meet haven't been posted on the section v website or in the Leader this morning.

i do agree i always wonder who else is good from Bath but all i ever hear is about McCloud, McCloud does deserve more than others because he is that good, but you can't win a meet with one guy.

Being the complete novice that I am to track and field, a question. I was told by a track official that a FAT of 10.4 in the 100 M is an Olympic Qualifying time. Is that correct ? I was also told by the same person that Andre McCloud's jump ( 23' 11" ) is a state best and 2nd best mark, nationally. Is that accurate or just speculation ??

I know that his teammates get somewhat jealous ( there is no other word for it ) because he gets all of the accolades. ( or at least it seems that way to them ) However, his times and standards are amazing when there is even discussion about tops in the state and nation. It is no secret that in some sports and in some events, Andre does not work as hard as he could. Personally, I am hoping that when he does get tested he shows everyone just how fast he really is. In the 200 m at Cal-Mum , he cruised around the corner in 3rd or 4th place. At the 100 m mark, he flashed that big smile and accelerated to win by 10 yards. It will be interesting to see what he can do when he is pushed by a strong runner(s).

Those are the standards that you must get to make the olympic trials which means you have to run a lot faster to make the olympics

He does not have the 2nd best jump in the nation...or even close to competing for the best 100 or 200 times...heres the nations top long jump, 100 and 200 times for high schoolers:

Let me try to answer my two questions based on your responses to my question. NO, a 10.4 is NOT a qualifying time for the Olympic Trials ?? Is that correct. and... Andre's jump of 23' 11" was only the 35th best jump in the entire U.S. for 2008. Is that correct ??

I dont think that they were measuring the long jump right at cal mum. Almost every single person competing in it beat their previous PR by over a foot. The nombers just didnt look right to me. check it out for yourselfs, either everyone had one hell of a day or they had had some one measuring who really meased up bad.

I know their track is newer so that will help people jump better, because of the spring. Also i remember hearing someone say that there was some sort of a dropoff from the spot you jumped and where you landed in the sand which would add to your distance. I dont know if this is true, because i dont jump but this is what i heard.

well u had the wind at your back, you had a great track, and the sand was like 2 feet under the actual track so your bound to have personal records there

it dosnt really matter for the meet seeing how everyone was getting the same advantages, but it would be pretty crappy if that is how a school record or meet record is broken. I dont know how seriously Im taking those jumps untill I see how people jump in sectionals and supers.
