Avoca, meanwhile, went 14-4 over the regular season and will await the winner of No. 8 Fillmore-No. 9 C.G. Finney. The Tigers open up Class DD play on Friday.

In the other portion of the upper half of the DD bracket, No. 5 Genesee Valley hosts No. 12 Mt. Morris Tuesday for the right to play No. 4 Romulus. In the lower half of the bracket, No. 2 Alfred-Almond and No. 3 Arkport appear to be on a collision course. A-A opens with the winner of No. 7 Notre Dame-No. 10 Elba on Friday, while Arkport gets the winner over No. 6 Hammondsport-No. 11 Jasper-Troupsburg.-The Tribune

No.6 Hammondsport 17, No.11 Jasper-Troupsburg 4

Hammondsport broke up a tie game with an eight-run fourth inning to down No.11 J-T 17-4. After the Wildcats opened with three runs in the first inning, Anton Zyla led off the game with a triple for Hammondsport, and later scored one of the Lakers two first inning runs. With the Score tied at 4 through three innings, the Lakers' bats came to life. Justin Schock drew a walk to begin the rally, and drove in two runs to cap it later in the inning. Zyla and teammate Kane McAfee each finished a home run short of the cycle, while driving in two and three runs respectively.

No.9 Finney 5, No.8 Fillmore 3 9 innings

Pat Lagueras struck out eight and allowed nine hits over nine innings for Finney. Ed Marchand went 3-for-5 for the Falcons.

No.5 Genesee-Valley 12, No. 12 Mt. Morris 1

No.7 Notre-Dame 10, No.10 Elba 2

I think that GV is the sleeper and has a good shot at winning over Avoca. The defending champs can be subject at times (GV as well) and I am thinking that GV has what it takes. But I dont know if BND will take a toll on GV or not. The team to do the best is usually the team that has pitchers that can hold up. Avoca had that last year. I can only wait to see what will come.

I have to disagree with you on that. First off Genesee-Valley plays Romulus tonight, not BND. And Avoca has dominated the class D's the last few years the only Class D school to beat Avoca the last two seasons is Arkport, once last year and once this year. They played Class BB Hornell and Bolivar-Richburg not to mention Class CCC Addison & Campbell-Savona (Both semi-finalist) so they're ready for the Class DD Sectionals.

I'm not saying that they can't lose to Gensesee-Valley, but I don't think it's happening. Avoca has their version of "Murderers Row" Brian Kidder, Tony Galvan, Joe Wallace & Freddy Klock at 1,2,3,& 4 and there's no other Section V Class D school with that kind of line up.

We'll see what happens but I wouldn't be writing off the Defending Class D State Champs quite yet.

Pinnum-I'm interested in your reasoning behind calling Avoca Subject at times? Their losses are to Class BB Hornell, Class CCC Campbell-Savona, Class C Bolivar-Richburg and Arkport, that's a pretty impressive group of teams!

What I was saying is that I thought GV could take Avoca. I think they are two similar teams (although as you mention Avoca has more pitching). That is the reason that I am not sure that GV will win the class if they knock off Avoca. Which was why I said the pitching would take a hit with BND.

I am not convinced that the best team always win sectionals in baseball. Baseball is a sport that should be played in series and I think GV has the tools to win, although I am not sure if it will happen. Avoca is a good team but I dont think they are that impressive. They have let downs (like most high school teams) and for that reason can be beaten.

Just because they didnt loss all those games does not mean that they could not have lost them. Being subject simply means that they are prone to stringing together a few miscues in one inning. And Just because they have lost to larger schools does not mean that much. This is class D, where everyone must play up to get games, or play the same teams over and over. GV plays a pretty good scedule as well and has some good wins. Remember that in sectionals, it only takes one pitcher to get a win.

GV has a good chance of winning but only time will tell.

I think playing larger schools makes a difference, Avoca played Hornell and Hornell's Pitcher Kyle Binder was throwing in the Mid 80's, they beat Avoca 1-0, so the Avoca pitchers saw pitches in the Mid 80's for 7 innings, how many Class D Pitchers are throwing in the Mid 80's?

You've done your homework Avoca has had a few miscues in the field but I think they have the ability to put together 4 or 5 straight wins. They're young at some spots, they start a Freshman & A Sophomore in the infield. I'm not saying Gen-Valley isn't good but after Nate Broughton who throws? And ultimately I think Avoca's hitters (Kidder, Galvan, Wallace & Klock) are good enough to carry them to a sectional title.

That sucks..I was hoping to catch up with ya. I'll be there to cover it for work - with all the LPGA stuff, I pretty much had a choice of any game I wanted that wasn't Bath-Hornell (the Trib is covering that one)

I'd love to see this game. Too many good games to see that are going on at the same time.

Too bad that don't televise baseball games like they do basketball on the local channel.
