Does anybody see any upsets/ good matchups in the pre-quarters/quarters?

I think Addison could be a sleeper and pull the upset here, and beat E-R in the Semi's. Jamie Martin is a very good pitcher and they've got some power hitters, they've also got Barrett Brewster who can throw some heat, if he came in for Martin in the 5th or 6th he could close the deal on someone. I'd love to see an all steuben county final with Addison vs. Campbell-Savona

Does Letchworth have a chance at beating Honeoye?

From the sounds of it a pretty good game - I'll know more after it gets called in by the coaches, but from what I've heard, score was tied at 2 in bottom of seventh and Will Cornett scored from second on a long flyball to lift the Panthers over the Kings.

No. 8 Cuba-Rushford 3, No. 1 East Rochester 1

Alex Petroni hit a two-run single to left field to score the first two runs of the game for C-R.

Ryan Cook struck out six and walked one to earn his 10th win of the year for the Rebels (13-8).

"His curveball was really working," C-R coach Steve Wyatzkanic said. "He keeps himself in the game and doesn't walk anybody. He's our workhorse."

Jacob James singled in a run in the fourth to give C-R a 3-0 lead.

ER finished 15-2.-D&C

No. 3 Honeoye 6, No. 6 Letchworth 4

Sean McGuire hit a two-run double in the bottom of the third to pull Honeoye within 3-2. Four batters later, Dylan Jobson put the Bulldogs (19-5) ahead when he hit a two-run single.

Marcus Way pitched the final four innings and struck out seven to pick up the win.

Jeff Marcey hit a two-run single in the top of the third for Letchworth (11-7).-D&C

No. 2 Campbell-Savona 3, No. 7 Bishop Kearney 2

Senior Andy Knowles drove home senior Will Cornet with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to win it for Campbell-Savona (16-1).

Knowles finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and senior Sam Wood went 2-for-2 with a triple and two walks for the Panthers.

Senior Jon Laureano went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Kings (10-9).-D&C

No.5 Addison 2, No.4 Marion 1

Addison Scored one run in each of it's final two plate appearances to score a 2-1 comeback upset of Marion in Section V Class CCC quarterfinal action. The No.5 Knights fell behind early, giving up a run on a wild pitch by Jamie Martin in the first inning. But Martin would find his control from there and shut Marion down the rest of the way. With the win Addison earns the right to play No.8 Cuba-Rushford, who upset Top Ranked East-Rochester-The Corning Leader

#2 Campbell-Savona v. #3 Honeoye and #5 Addison v. #8 Cuba-Rushford in Hornell. Any predictions? Could we see a all Steuben County final?

Last year CS played Honeoye and they had 3 good pitchers that threw heat...did they all graduate?

I'm pretty sure all three of those guys graduated, they reloaded though.... Don't know much about this group, they've been a little up and down though. I for one would love to see an all Steuben County Final in not only this class But DD as well, that'd say alot for how tough the League really is in Baseball! There's really no losers there, if the county can win two sectional crowns and maybe more.................

The Corning Leader had Addison beating HoneoyeFalls-Lima.

Which leads me to the question of, was their some reason that Addison chose to be part of Section V? When were the state sections formed?

Up until the 80's both Corning Schools were part of Section V. In 1979 Corning West won the AA championship in football. Back then the Classes were AAA AA A B C. Aquinas won the AAA Monroe won the A, Cal-Mum the B and ND Batavia the C. I'm not sure why they left. If you look back through the Basketball records you can see references to the old corning schools of CFA, Northside Blodgett and Painted Post. Plus all of the schools that Addison competes with in their league are in Section V. Hope this helps

The Corning schools got out of Section V for a couple reasons, I think. One was that they couldn't get any schools of similar size around here from Section V (obviously) so they had to go to Section IV to find teams that were equal to them. That would play a big role in sports like basketball or baseball where seedings are determined by points based on state classification. Another thing was lacrosse, if I'm not mistaken. Nobody around here besides Penn Yan had it at the time, and now it's only Penn Yan and Bath. So they had to travel all the way to Rochester to play league games on a regular basis. In joining Section IV, they play in the STAC (formerly the Sullivan Trail Conference if I'm not mistaken), which has a North, South, East, and West division, and allows them to play their league games against teams from Elmira and Binghamton - much better for them driving wise and school size wise.

With Addison, it's pretty much the opposite - all the schools around here in Section V are about their size, all the schools from Section IV are A or AA.
