I know this isn't an exact estimate of best teams in section V, but I found it interesting.
Armory Track had these teams on their top-35 Boy's State rankings that were published the day before states:
Hilton-14th
Fairport-18th
Brockport-19th
McQ-28th
Victor-33rd
You can go to http://ny.milesplit.us/articles/18634 to see how they ranked, it's sort of interesting actually. The rankings award points for any athlete in the state top-20 for any event (thus Fontanez, Dupont, Gross, Cain, Bell, and Rivers having their teams highly ranked).

yea i saw that before i would hilton down a little though just bc Fonanez is most of that score. Pat is a lot of the score too but looking at states you know he can run both of those races

well it really depends what your talking about if you mean at a race with the best teams in the state then i say fairport is up there bc of dupont but if your talking about just sectionv racing sectionv i would have to give it to edison bc of their depth in sprints and jumping

This is a cool system and all but it really comes down to team depth. I don't really think there is any way to actually rate teams besides all having them run in the same meet with limits on the number of athletes per event to even it out from the large and small schools. I'll bet in a meet of this style smaller schools like Bath, Alexander, and LeRoy would be fighting for the top spot right with the Hiltons, Fairports, and Victors of Section 5.

mmm idk if there was one like that the small schools would still be spread out thin, while the large schools could just put their athletes in their normal 4 events whereas small schools would spread more out and it's be more tiring running more events so the large schools would still have an advantage
i'm still diggin the AD V. CB idea we had at the end of indoor

Don't forget about Rush-Henrietta, 8-0 on the season and beat all of the teams on the list except Edison and that would be indoor and outdoor. They won all of the invites entered except JFK.

No, you're wrong. Milesplit takes the results from all invitationals of merit and any chamiponship meets, it has nothing to do with teams listing "their" athletes. If you couldn't find Mccloud you weren't looking hard enough because I had no trouble finding him in about ten seconds. He's right on the 100 and 200 state boards. I don't know about this snyder, if he's never run an FAT race then he won't be on the site maybe, though I doubt it would make a difference in any of these rankings because he's not top-20 in state.

Ok this took like anr but it was worth it:
I scored a meet using the leaderboard online (with the updates I knew from MOC) with every team in the section in it. Top 10 in every event get points; 10 for 1st, 9 for 2nd, 8 for 3rd, etc, etc, 1 for 10th. Ties were broken by who had the better 2nd best mark (although there were only ties in the 100, HJ, and PV). The scores seem to give a pretty good picture:
Edison 105
Fairport 66
Irondequoit56
Hilton 56
Brockport 50
RH 41
Aquinas 41
HFL 40
Newark 36
McQ 36
Victor 35
Bath 33
Leroy 31
Thomas 26
Mendon 23
Wilson 22
Eastridge 21
Hornell 21
Alexander21
Marshall 21
Penfield 21
Gates-Chili 20
Marion 19
Brighton 19
Sutherland 18
Tell me if this is cool, it took forever.

Nice work but did you take into account limitations on number of events an athlete can do or number of athletes entered by each team per event? For example Hilton could have scored a ton of points because Fontanez is top 10 in Section 5 for the 400, 800, high jump, pentathalon, and 4 by 800. Obviously, physically he wouldn't be able to do all of these events at his top performance and at most meets they limit it to a maximum of 4 events per athlete.

yea i agree but that as accurate as your going to get. REally the only scores that affects is bath with andre in Lj,tj,100,200,4x1 and fontanez and maybe a kid here or there but thats the big ones

Nice work, but track as many of you know isn't all about the individuals. Team depth should play into this. I understand this list is just ranking the teams "stars", there are plenty of stars on each team that do not get ranked or get the headlines. Those are the athletes that get your seconds and thirds. There are teams listed in the top five that are all about one or two athletes and I admit, they are very good, but they are not a team and they can not win a dual meet or invite by themselfs.

thats really cool but i was thinking more of a like 1 on 1 team rankings the team with the most stars in going to prevail with out you put it trackhead, when if you matched up edison tech with bath? tech has no distance and noone that can beat andre, but they will dominate in alot of events but it wouldnt be a complete blowout like you put it, and i know leroy is better than that to

i thought he meant like if everyone in sectionv competed in one big invite and i think those would be very accurate bc only the top 10 guys are going to school so that means that for most schools you would have a tought time scoring two people in one event so thats where having a one or two strong athletes comes into play over depth but if you are talking 1 on 1 then yea that would change everything

Ok good to see this created a little buzz. To answer some of the questions about it: I let athletes score in all events they're top 10 in- this boosted McQ, Hilton, and Fairport. I scored the Pent as an event as well so that help Irondeqouit, Hilton, and McQ . I scored this as an invite because I feel that invitational performance is the real measure of a team. Dual meets don't reflect as much your strength as a team as they do how well you match up with that particular opponent. If I had scored this as top-15 or 20(which seems excessive as being 20th in the section means you might not score in sectionals) the team that would benefited most would have been Newark. It seemed like the 11th guy in a ton of events was from Newark. Bath and Aquinas would have suffered most.
I have the excel file with all the scorings if anyone wants it.

Bath and Edison would be a fun meet to watch, please keep in mind Andre gets 1st in the 100, 200. Edison gets 2nd and 3rd. you're only up 2 points. They sweep the hurdles, Bath sweeps the distance (1600 and 3200), I think if they're were smart they'd run Santana in the 800 so Bath doesn't sweep that event so now Bath is up 5pts (I gave Edison 2nd in the 800), I think Edison gets a least 1&2 in the 400, now Bath down 2pts. Relays, Edison wins the 400 & 1600, Bath wins the 3200, Bath is now down 7 points.
Field Events: Triple (6-3 Edison) Long (5-4 Bath), PV (9-0 Bath??), HJ (6-3 Edison), SP (5-4 Edison), Discus (5-4 Edison) Total: Edison 74-67 over Bath
Just guessing and not looking at the Section V leaderboard. Many teams could give Edison a good dual meet, but they crush everyone in the invites.

yea it really could go any way with those two teams but what would santana do? 200,400 and what else bc i dont think they would need him in their relays maybe the 4x1 but prob not the 4x4 maybe they would put him in the 100 but then again do they really need him in that bc he isnt their fastest 100 guy is he?

I think there are a couple of errors in this. First, I don't think that Santana would get 2nd in the 800. I was watching the Bath 4 by 800 at State Quals and they had 2 guys go 2:00.xx and another guy go and a little more. I don't even think Santana would place. Also Bath has a couple of good 110 hurlders; I don't know if they could match up against Edison but I wouldn't be so quick to say that Edison would sweep the hurdles.

Except for the 10 McCloud could get, Edison would win every point from 400 down including the hurdles. In the 110H, Edison sent two guys to states and they have more sub-17 guys who don't even do it. Edison is so crazy deep, there are guys that would score in class B sectionals that they don't even bring to meets.

How do you figure McCloud would only score 10? He'd win the 100 and 200. He'd definately place in long jump and their 4 by 100 would get points. If you are doing the traditional 5, 3, 1 scoring system that is used at dual meets then I figure that McCloud would score 16 points atleast. (1st place 100, 1st place 200, 3rd long, 2nd 4 by 100)

Yeah, I am surprised we'd be within 10 points of them. I knew it would be close but I thought they would win by more because of their amazing sprints and jumps.

Sweeping pole vault also helps.
Epps is a senior and Bortle is a freshman.

The only reasson we stay with them in points is because they dont have a distance crew. Both us (Bath) and Leroy have a pretty good d-crew

I know Bath will have a strong dcrew but the sprinting and field events are going to be weaker. I'm gone and Andre isn't doing track next year

so pretty much the only ppl we are losing is jordan nichols dereck and darren snyder and jamie house. andre might not come out next year but we wont know till the time comes, all the people bath is losing are replaceable by the people who are coming back but we are somewhat in the same situation as leroy

Yeah, I know how you fell. Being an underclassmen sucks. I have tried to stay in competition with some of the juniors on our team in terms of points scored. It's hard to beat Frank though...

White sectional patch, means you won sectionals as a team or a relay you were on won (4x1,4x4, and 4x8)
Blue patches are individual ones (i.e. 100, 200, high jump ect)

Wellsville will be very good next year. They finished 60 something points behind us and were a Jr./So. led team.
