What appears to be the Harder of the State Regional Play In Brackets? The Section 6 AAA vs. Section 6 A (then Section 5 AA Champ) OR the Section 1 AA, Section 9 AA and Section 4 AA Champions having to play possibly 2Regional Play In Games (Semi Final then State Regional Final) prior to going to the State Final Four? Basically, all of the other Sections in the State have only 1 Regional Game before advancing to the State Final Four (ie: Section 5 vs. Section 6; Section 2 vs. Section 3; and Section 8 vs. Section 11). I believe that the Brimuda Triangle State Regional between Sections 1, 4 and 9, for Softball, is the toughest road to the State Final 4. (Which lends itself to having a State Softball Super Regional, rotated each year, at a neutral site, to make it fair). Any thoughts?

My feeling based on the number of teams in each section that the current setup is probably best.
It'd be nice to have a tournament that is seeded based on state rankings, but the reality of travel expenses nixes that idea.

Yes, financial costs certainly play into this, but, not to take anything away from the other sections in the State, but, over the years, the Larger Schools from Sections 1, 9 and 4 have done well in Softball in New York State, where as, for example, Section 8, in Nassau County in Long Island, has not been a strong section for Softball, thus Section 11 (Suffolk County) seems to always get a "Free Ride" to the State Final Four, where as each year, Sections 1, 4, and 9 have to battle it out, sometimes with the Winning Regional Team having to win 2 games just to make it to the State Final Four, vs. just winning 1 game.

Is the current setup, consistant across all team sports?

It is the standard format that is used for all sports across the state. However, each sport is "different" and cannot be classified as the same. Some people think that having a 3 or 4 day event, Super Regionals and State Final 4 all at one central location in the state, is the way to go, with the Super Regionals, seeded each year.
