As many of you know, I am a HUGE Friday Night Lights fan, and I think that it is one of the greatest movies of all time. But I am also a big fan of Hoosiers and Any Given Sunday. This being said, I was watching some YouTube the other day, and Here are some of my favorite movie speeches.

1. Friday Night Lights
I love every speech in this game, but my favorite is this one, where Coach Gary Gaines inspires the team in at halftime of the State Championship game against Dallas Carter

2. Any Given Sunday
In this locker room scene before the first playoff game, Coach Tony D'Amato uses the foxhole approach towards inspiring the Sharks to play the game at it's simplest level. Inches by inches.

3. Hoosiers
In one of Gene Hackman's greatest roles, and in the greatest Basketball movie of all time, Coach Norman Dale confronts his team before the biggest game of their lives. This speech brings to mind the win or lose, your still a winner mentality, without giving the usual parent-like support. It shows that the team is a family, and that what they had done up to and before that game renders them winners regardless of the outcome.

4. Remember the Titans
I know that there are a lot of great speeches in this movie, a couple of which may be a little more motivating (Gettysburg speech, Perfect team), but this 46 second clip is one of the most motivating speeches pound for pount.

5. Rudy

Rudy is one of the greatest "determination" movies of all time. In this clip, the janitor (who's name escapes me right now) convinces Rudy that he doesn't he doesn't need to do anything that he doesn't want to to to prove his worth.

That is all for now. I would like to hear what you think about some of these speeches, and feel free to post your own!

Jimmy V
In 1993, Jim Valvano was selected to receive the Arthur Ashe Award for courage. Valvano had been diagnosed with cancer and it was apparent that the end was near for him. The very morning before he was to give this speech at the ESPY's, he needed help to stand up and could barely walk. The mere fact that he could get up on stage and receive this award would have been inspiring enough. Jimmy V was able to pull everything he had together and give one of the most inspiring speeches of all time.

I know it is a long speech, and the audio and video don't match up very well, but I urge everybody to watch this. Even if you have seen it before, it is great to watch over and over.

Where's Babcock? We need him to get on here and tell us about Foster's motivational speeches.

Some of them are hilarious.

I'm still saying that the Al Pacino is a lot better than the friday night lights one. In the friday night lights one them praying gets me more psyched up than the actual speech does, and its 2:30 in the morning but someone had to post something on my facebook.

If your looking for something a little different. I was fortunate enough to get to listen to Don Meyer speak last spring at a coaches clinic in Chester, WV. For those who don't know he is the head coach at Northwestern St. in SD. He has over 800 career wins. I would have to say it is the most amazing thing I have ever listened to. Obviously some of his tactical ideas are amazing, but his motivation for anyone who listens to him is the most incredible thing I've ever heard.

I was going to post it, but it seems a little to cheesy and predictable

About a month or so ago I came across this site that listed what they felt were the 10 best motivational speeches in sports movies.

A lot of similarities to Novak's list:

Are you referring to the Sequoia Trees, whose massive size is only supported by a very weak individual root system? However, Sequoia trees intertwine their roots and create an impenetrable force. no storm, natural disaster, or erosion can conquer this great web of unity.

Phenomenal.

When I was in tenth grade, he used it for our sectional game vs. LeRoy. For being my first year on varsity, I was a little freaked out that I would have to open my mind to such deep thoughts for two more years. Now, I find myself finding motivation out of nature and plant life almost all the time. haha jk

Holy crap. Most coaches dont even know how that works, much less be able to put it into a pregame/halftime speech.
