Good for them. I know this will bring some rather harsh reactions by some, but the reality of todays economy has to be a big factor in this decision as well.

I honestly wonder how long it will be before some of these leagues vote out the "big travel" cost schools because of budget cuts.

They oughta change the name of the league then to something like the "Rochester-Metro" or "Greater Rochester Large School Athletic Association". And they oughta do a geographical conference alignment rather than a size division. The new conference will essentially become the G8 of Section Five.

This decision is what is right for their sports program as a whole. For the most part they will be competitive in almost every sport but willstruggle in some. The football team is looing up with a lot of young kids playing this year and the core players returning. It will help travel costs and times for parents as well. Many parents work near the city and it will be much more convenient for them.

A while back the Monroe County League's divisions WERE set up geographically. Although it was cost efficient, it wasn't without drawbacks. If I remember correctly, the East Division consisted of East Rochester, Fairport, Sutherland, Mendon, Eastridge, Webster, etc. In the West Division there were the Greece schools, Brockport, Spencerport, Hilton, etc. (A rather large discrepancy in size of schools for both divisions.) I can't remember if there was a Central Division.

Maybe someone can remember better!!!!! Anyone? . . .

A large school in one division may have a disadvantage because they HAVE to play more division games against smaller schools. Conversely, a small school in a geographic alignment may have to play against a lot of larger schools and not have success due to "unfair" competition -- playing against schools with much larger populations.

If MC or the newly named Greater Rochester LSAA (I like the ring of that!) goes to geographic alignment, I don't know how they'll manage division games with differing Sectional points at stake.

I guess I was thinking having East and West for the AA/AAA schools. Keep the A schools in a D2.

D1-Eastside Schools:
Webster Thomas
Webster Schroeder
Irondequoit
Brighton
Fairport
Penfield
R-H
(Canandaigua -- 2010)
(Pittsford-- Football)

D1-Westside Schools:
Greece Athena
Greece Arcadia
Greece Olympia
Hilton
Spencerport
Brockport
Churchville-Chili
Gates-Chili

Division 2:
Pittsford Sutherland
Pittsford Mendon (combined Pittsford for Football would be D1-E)
Victor
Eastridge
HFL
Greece Odyssey
Batavia

I can just hear people now from Brockport or Greece whining about driving all the way to Canandaigua. I had to give a coworker from Greece directions to Spencerport Friday. She acted as if she might fall off the edge of the earth if she went that far west. I can't imagine if she had to drive to Canandaigua. I don't know what she does for games in Webster. She probably doesn't go unless she can find a cheap non-stop flight.

I think the league is set up well right now because nothing is really further than 45 minutes or so with the expressways and everything. In D-3 there isn't much more than a 15 minute drive except for batavia and oddessy

Greece Odyssey should drop out of Monroe County like East Rochester did a few years ago. Because they are a smaller school, they are very overmatched in most sports. I'm not sure which league they would join, maybe the Genesee League?

Also, Brighton is Class A, and would probably be in that lower division.

Is it true that the Monroe ADs are thinking about rejcting Canadaigua. What a boost to Ca to know there are teams out there that fear them. I just hope they don't hide behind transportation reasons

Just who fears CA? And in what sport?

"Hide behind transportation reasons" -- not! This is a valid concern.
