Weird schedule this year.Batavia usually always plays on Fridays.I don't remember Batavia ever playing a home game on a Saturday unless it was a make up.5:00 on a Thursday is stranger yet for a varsity football game.

Thursday is a day the Monroe County D1 teams use for some reason. See the C-C schedule above.

The reason why Monroe County League teams schedule Thursday games around September 20 or so, is out of respect for the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, which this year actually starts at sundown on Friday, September 21 and goes through Saturday, September 22. This has been done for several years now.
I take it Batavia will be attending the Brockport team camp next week? Churchville Chili will be there. I really think the kids and the coaches get alot out of that camp. I love going to it to watch the various drills, 7 on 7's and the 1/2 contact scrimmages. Maybe I'll see some of you there! :)

Thanks! We're hoping to go all the way too, but first things first, we need to focus on that first game against Marshall. They have great team speed.
The Irondequoit game was a good one! I did chain gang for both the Irondequoit and the Marshall games and was on the opposing teams sidelines for both, quite an interesting perspective, plus being part of the action which is why I love doing chains.
Hey, check out the slideshows for those games:

The reason we stopped doing the Cal-Mum scrimmage is Coach Dick is friends with Fairport Coach Ierlan and we were invited by Coach Ierlan to scrimmage back in 2005. The Fairport Football Booster Club threw a barbeque for both teams, after the scrimmage. It was a real nice gesture.

Yeah, I was hoping for that as well! Auburn wasn't even supposed to go to States, but Corcoran (Syracuse) was dropped for using an ineligible player and Auburn ends up winning it all! I like it when the underdog wins, except when it's against the Saints! :p
My son is going to be a senior this year and he's been doing college camps all summer. When he was at the Greg Robinson's Syracuse Camp, he met one of Auburn's linemen, tackle Nick Lepak, 6'5" and 340lbs of solid muscle. My son said there's no fat on this kid. Expect to see Lepak playing at Syracuse.

Thanks for the info saints dad.I don't remember Batavia ever playing a Thursday game but maybe my memory isn't what it used to be!
Good luck to you guys this year.It has been fun watching the scrimmages and 7 on 7's this year.I think Batavia has developed a friendly rivalry with CC with seeing them so much during the off season. You guys have a great team every year and Collier is an amazing player to watch. The kid can dominate against the best teams in the state. You guys have a lot of talent that probably gets overlooked due the attention that Collier demands.Hope you go all the way this year!
Yes Batavia will be at Brockport.Their confidence in the upcoming season took quite a hit this week when their starting quarterback, who was going to be a big part of their offense running the ball, decided he was not going to play this year. What a big blow. They only have their Sophomore JV quarterback who will be an all-star in the future, but is nowhere near ready to play varsity now.Cabrera is an emergency quarterback but considering he is also their best RB,WR,kick returner,DB,punter and kicker he cant play everywhere.Hopefully they can get someone some work at Brockport and be ready for the season.
I didn't know Brockport was a "watchable" camp.I guess I just assumed it was just a conditioning camp and never asked my son what he did there. If they have scrimmages and 7 on 7's I will take a ride up there!

Coach Gieger was the Saints defensive coordinator and my son really liked him as a coach, but also as a person.
Thanks for your kind words about the team. Some of these kids, as with my son and Chris Vitale, have been playing football together for 10 seasons. Averin Collier and Steve Dunn have been starters since their freshmen year and Dave Kubarycz, Nate Boland and my son, Joey Yanaitis, have been starters since their sophomore year. They are part of a senior class that bought into Coach Dick's powerlifting and conditioning program. Way back when these guys were freshmen, Coach Dick called a parent/player meeting where he asked for parental support as well as player committment to his program. He showed us the corrolation on how other successful programs in the Monroe County League, such as Webster Schroeder, Webster Thomas, Gates Chili and Greece Athena, had a high number of players that could squat at least 300 lbs and bench at least 200 lbs. The best teams had guys who were doing 400 lbs squats and 300 lbs bench's. Our guys bought into it and we parents urged and supported them. We've won the Irondequoit Power Lifting Competition 2 years in a row and we won the New York State Power Lifting Meet at Sweet Home High School in Amherst this past March. Success on the field has a direct corrolation with committment in the weight room.
That's too bad that your starting QB is not playing. What's the deal with that? Have the coaches talked with him? How about his team mates? There's still time for a change of mind. Good luck with this and I hope your season goes well!
I'll be at the Brockport Camp this week. There's alot of parents that show up to watch. I usually bring one of those collapsable lawn chairs and something to drink and smooze around with the other parents. This is my son's last season of high school football and I'm going to savor every moment! These are the best of times! :)

Yeah, you guys have some good ones. There is a small kid at running back that was giving the Batavia defense fits!
The deal with the quarterback is well....a big dose of reality set in.He had a baby a couple of weeks ago and is due to have ANOTHER one in a couple of weeks. He needed to work to pay child support. You have to give the kid credit for trying to do the right thing.Hopefully he is only quitting sports and not school. He is barely 16 last year he was just a sophomore. There is still 2 weeks before practice starts so hopefully he will change his mind.
I think maybe Batavia needs some classes on birth control!

That small kid is Chris Vitale! He's as fast as greased lightning and can change directions on a dime. Chris can hide behind the offensive linemen and then dart out when he sees a hole and he's past you before you know it. Check out this video from last years game against Brockport (when Collier was out with an injury):
http://www.ccsaintsfootball.com/Brockport_Vitale_Touchdown.mpg
At Brockport Camp last evening, his mother was describing to the rest of us parents how small Chris was when he and my son Joey started playing for the Chili Lions when they were 7 years old. She said all you could see when he suited up in pads was a helmet and feet! :) Chris is the real deal though. His older brother Mike Vitale, played linebacker at Brockport State.
That's too bad about your QB. Wow, 16 years old and already fathering 2 kids. He really needs to get his HS Diploma and not drop out of school. I hope things work out with him.
