Is going to be brutal this year. UConn, Louisville, and Pitt are all probably top 5 or 6 teams. Notre Dame is excellent, Syracuse, Villanova, and Georgetown will have good years too. Even some of the other teams can do some damage like WVU, Seton Hall, Providence, and Cincinnati. The player I'm really cheering for this year is Devendorf form SU. I hope he comes back and has a great year.

boobiemiles
11-04-2008, 04:24 PM
Syracuse is so much deeper this year than last year. It will help a lot in the long run, and they will be able to play some more man to man to help defend against some of the midmajors that have all of their sicko shooters.

Power Rankings

1. UCONN- thabeet makes no one score in the paint and is the reason why they are number1

2. ND- they return everyone including Big East POTY Luke Harongody, these guys are my sleepers to win the ncaa tourney

3. Syracuse- they have the talent to win the big east, just they will lack chemisty and they have some real idiots on that team

boobiemiles

They're the originators of the Mid-Major Top 25. The thing I love about mid-major basketball is the fans are really basketball junkies, not the "he said/she said" types you find on the high major bandwagons.

Just to clarify for that so I don't get fried. I'm not a huuuuge Ohio State football fan, or a big football fan in general. I've been a fan of OSU basketball before the 06' final four team with Greg Oden and Mike Conley. Ohio State will surprise some teams this year with one of the best recruiting classes in the country with 7 footer BJ Mullens and McDonalds All-American William Buford.

Flynn is way better than reynolds.

Also, I don't see how the 'Cuse went from "being a top 10 team" with greene this year to not even ranked?!!! He was good but not that good. With Devo and Flynn and Rautins in the back court and in my opinion one of the most underrated players in the country Onuaku. Going to be a great year of college hoops, hopefully the cuse doesn't give the committee a chance to snub them again.

last year, in the last game where SU and Nova played each other, i believe the big east tourney game... the orange were in the 2-3 (surprise, surprise) and in the second half nova was picking the zone apart and lighting it up from 3 point land. Did Boeheim change out of the zone? no sir. he continued to let the wildcats rain threes down upon the helpless orange. bad choice

boobiemiles
11-10-2008, 07:09 PM
Last year he had to stay in the zone because they only had a 6 player rotation. This year their rotation is 10 deep. He can't do a thing when he has 2 starters out and others torn apart by injury. He had to stay in zone to keep his players from getting tired and to keep them out of foul trouble. Also, last year he lacked a lot of the length in his rotation to help defend the zone. With a rejuvinated line up this year he will be looking to play man against shooting teams and the zone will be much more effective.

When you consider how deep their roster is and that guys like Mbah-Moute can be role players at UCLA but NBA starters it's pretty amazing.

By the way a whole bunch of Section V alumni are traveling with Houghton College this weekend to take on D2 Southern New Hampshire University. SNHU is in the NE-10 which always seems to have a team in the D2 Final Four and 5 out of their 15 rostered players are D1 transfers. Curry had 44 last night despite having an off shooting night. He's usually better than 6 for 15 for 3's. This is definitely a positive for Davidson though, they battled back against one of the Big 12's top teams. And remember, last year in their second game of the season they lost to UNC by 4, as well as last night.

The rest of Davidson's roster is pretty stinkin good for a midmajor program. If Curry were at a program like Duke or UNC or Kansas he wouldn't be allowed to take 15 three pointers. Otherwise those coaches wouldn't be able to recruit 4-5 McDonalds All Americans every year.

Stephan Curry is the best player in college basketball. I wouldnt doubt it if he does average over 30 points per game this season and he is running the point so he should average around 7-10 assists. After watching what he did last night its crazy. He isnt the best athlete on the floor ever usually but he is so smart and so smooth that it dosent matter hes great probaly my favorite player to watch in college basketball. Also his younger brother can't think of his name right at the moment but he plays for Liberty and I believe is averaging 17 maybe give or take and he is only a freshman so hopefully we can watch another Curry for 4 more years.

Duke isn't overrated. They will play their share of good teams this year. Rhode Island is a good A10 school that is wayyyyy underrated. Bottem line, Duke won 3-0 can't move em down for that.

DUKE SUCKS! they are so over rated any team in the top 10 would beat them by at least 10, teams like notre dame win there first game by 40 and duke barely wins and they r ranked higher? whatever
Yeah, and UCLA shouldn't be in the top 25 either.....

I think Ucla should be in the top 25 we all know how UCLA plays they are a grind it out team every year and are always a tough team to beat I wouldnt be surprised if they make another good run this year in the PAC 10 or win the Pac 10 and make a good run in the big dance not a final four but a solid sweet 16 or elite eight they are winners and they are very proud of that and it wont drop off. GO CUSE

Thats the same thing they did last year, Davidson played a really tough non conference schedule, and they played those teams well. They were close in games against Duke and two final four teams from last year, UCLA and UNC. Their schedule is just as tough this year, already played Oklahoma and they still have West Virginia, Purdue and Duke on the schedule. Curry has shown he is capabale of taking over a game to get the win, just look at the tournament last year.

theres no doubt that curry could single handidly take davidson to the final four when you have the best player you always have a shot to win.

Possible, but it hurts davidson alot that they lost their point guard. Now not only does curry have to make every shot but he has to also dribble down, pass to himself, then make every shot.

UNC sure looked impressive last night. 102-87 over Notre Dame, which is no slouch. McAlarney and Harangody are excellent players.

ND lost the game before it even started, they are better than that, they werent mentally prepared to face a team like unc yet

ND players were whiped. NC won each of their games by like a hundred and the starters didn't have to play much. NC is scary good though.

Big East 4 teams in the top 8, 7 in the top 25.
I would like to welcome the 8th team this week to the top 25 (They better be) THE CUSE'

Yeah, that one hurt. He played okay I guess considering he had the flu. It hurt that Rautins had just fouled out. Also, why the hell did Harris jack up 6 threes in this game? What was he thinking?
