Well with Obama being elected, he told Chris Berman that if he could get involved and change one thing about sports it'd be college football introducing a playoff system.

What is everyone's thoughts on this? Should we have a playoff at all? If yes how would it work and how many teams?

This is my opinion....I would LOVE a playoff and this is how I would do it:

There are 11 conference plus independant teams. I say each conference winner makes the playoffs and for a 12 team make it a wild card and use the polls to pick a wildcard team from the independants and all the non-conference winning teams (in most cases prob a conference champ game loser).

Seed them 1-12 and give the top 4 a bye. 5-12 play to get it to 8 teams and three rounds later we have a champion.

I know this is 3 or 4 more games for a team when use to only playing 1 more for a bowl but then make the regular season a game or two less AND stop wasting most of NOV and DEC sitting around not playing and taking 4 or 5 weeks to get ready for one game.

I also hate how they sit around forever for a bowl game because I think the teams then get rusty and over-anxious and the game isn't as intense and wel played as it always could be.

I doubt this scenerio would ever happen but I love it.

Give me your thoughts!!! I want to hear more ideas that maybe I overlooked!

I would only go with 8 teams. The six BCS conference champions (which I think all should have a chamionship game), and two more at large teams which could be the top two teams from anywhere. Seed them 1 to 8, and first round games are played at the home of the higher seed. Second round games could be at neutral sites (rose bowl, superdome, etc.). Final game could be held at a neutral site as well.

I absolutely agree. we need, and from the reuslts of the ESPN poll today, AND AMERCIA WANTS a PLAYOFF!! You coul still include the bowls as the locations and rotate the championship game between the big bowls... As for extrending the season, there is no reason the college season couldn't get cut back to 10 games thus adding 2 more weeks available for playoffs.

I could do the 8 team playoff too, I think I only said 12 because I feel for the smaller programs in those smaller conferences and would like to see as many small school involved as possible.

I even think that you could go as low as 4 teams in a playoff.

Keep the bowl games for everybody else if you want.

In a case like this year, and for most other years, you would put in the SEC Champion, the Big 12 Champion and then the next 2 best teams. Or basically the 4 best teams in the country. Have the semi final games on New Years Day. Have the National Championship the next week. That way NCAA Can keep all of their bowls for the other teams. They make just as much money and there can be no real snubs. Yeah, teams will complain about being the 5th team who was left out, but at least this way you give 4 teams the opportunity to prove it rather than just 1.
