Panthers, Lions, Wolverines still undefeated at Bolivar-Richburg
Bolivar-Richburg hosted a summer basketball tournament Friday. The Wolverines-sectional finalists a season ago -defeated Northern Potter (PA.) 43-38 before dropping Portville 48-45. Wellsville--after a season that saw them reach their fourth straight sectional final-won two games as well. With the veteran presence of Tommy Hennessy, the Lions beat Cuba-Rusford 46-20 before dropping Andover 60-26. Houghton Academy looked much improved from a season ago as they defeated Andover 32-31 and Cuba-Rushford 66-51
Whitesville split a pair,Friday. The defending Section V class D Champions began life after Dan Heisey and Kyle Brubaker by falling to Northern Potter, 41-28. On the Shoulders of a strong performance from Coley Lewis-Ellison however, the Jays defeated Portville 45-36. The tournament continued Saturday..... -The Tribune

Quite a few AC schools were at our team camp Monday-Wednesday of this week.
Cuba-Rushford, GV, Andover, Whitesville, Bolivar-Richburg, Scio, Houghton Academy, Fillmore, Wellsville (not really an AC team, but still in the county).
Houghton Academy played pretty well from what I saw. They are going to run all day. Gamble a lot on defense. Did not look to shoot much from the outside other than Shatto.
Wellsville was missing Hennessey and Braunscheidel (I know I spelled them both wrong), and apparently the people they had there accounted for 1 point a game on last year's sqaud. That being said, they looked very good at times. Another team that looked to run a lot. Shot a ton of 3's. Dropped a game to GV when GV only had 4 kids because they stayed outside and refused to attack the basket.
The Andover team was a mix of kids from Andover and J-T.
Don't really know a lot about the other teams because I didn't see them play much.

Wellsville beat Houghton Academy in the championship game of the B-R Tourney after they beat Whitesville to get their. Houghton beat Bolivar-Richburg in their side of the bracket to get to the championship.
Whiteville will play Whitesville basketball... tough defense, push the ball, out hustle and play with more heart than other teams. Need some kids to step up and become consitent scorers... most likely the Lewis-Ellison brothers and Stevens brothers.
Scio lost key rebounders and scorers... but will be tough once again with the three guard front of Casey James, Jonas Wilson, and Justin Faulkner.
Andover will have some trouble scoring, Seth Shay will have to look to score first, then pass.
Houghton looked strong with a run-n-gun type of game... but players for Coach Merrill always know how to run out of a set. Pretty even scoring done due to running the floor.
Bolivar-Richburg will stay with people just like last year... good defense and a very deliberate offense.
Cuba-Rushford will be okay once they get into their season... look for Jay Ronan and Nolan Searl to do alot of the scoring... need someone else to step up to pick up slack on offense.
Fillmore once again chose to play in the small school division at Houghton team camp... while all other teams in their division participated in the large school division. They beat Franklinville in the championship after beating Houghton by 5 or so earlier in the tourney... look for the rivalry matches between them and Houghton to be a much better matchup this year.

Cuba-Rushford-This years team looks to be smaller unless there's some big guys coming up from J.V. 6'2" Sr.Nolan Searl proved last year that he's a capable scorer, problem is everyone else knows it too, in order for them to be successful they'll need some other guys to compliment Searl. Fellow Seniors Drew Schmidt 6'1", Brad Donahue 6'1", & Jon Ward 6'1" will get an opportunity as will 6'0" Jr. Jay Ronan. they'll go as far as Searl takes them, hopefully he's worked hard over the summer and tried to add a little muscle to his frame.
Bolivar-Richburg-reached the Class C Finals last season, and gave Red Jacket all they could handle. 7 guys return from last year and most of them were large contributors last season. Seniors Nate Shively, Caleb Pruch, Kameron Konert, John Snyder, Sean Lounsberry & Dan Eck return as does Junior Anthony Poole. This team will have a lot of speed and play good defense but doesn't have much size other than 6'3" Pruch. Alot will depend on the Football season, if they go deep into sectionals in Football it'll hurt the Basektball team, as most of the roster plays Football, and Konert is a key member to both squads.
Genesee-Valley-Coach Don Baker lost 7 seniors from last years squad, including Mainstays Austin Kelley & Ethan Burt along with 6'4" Forward Christian Reynolds. 6 players return from last years squad, the most significant returnee is 6'3" Brian Fanton, Fanton saw a lot of minutes last year as a reserve. Their success will depend on the contribution that the J.V Kids make. Right now there's not a big scoring threat. With Coach Baker's presence if they have a few good J.V players coming up he'll turn them into "gold". Wouldn't be surprised at all to see Gen-Valley near the top of the DD Seeding Points next February.
Fillmore-Shocked everyone last year my making a run to the DD Title game. Had high Expectations going into last season and failed to live up to the Hype during the regular season but knocked off Prattsburgh in the Semi-Finals to reach the title game. They lose 5 guys from that squad including leading Scorer Aaron Martin & Center Chris Francis. Coming back are Key contributors Devin Martin 5'11 Sr. Also 5'11" Guard Ryan Campbell & Forward James Rhett. If they get some help from J.V Call-Ups then they may be alright, someone has to take over the leadership role that Aaron Martin provided the last 3 years.

Devin Martin looks to have stepped up to assume a leadership role. They're not real big, like last year. But they did look to penetrate a little more than I thought they did when I saw them before. And they have at least one kid coming up from JV who will be able to step in and play for them.

Fanton is the only returning starter from GV and he has shown in the camps i have seen that he can put of 15 points and 10 bounds a game at least. Searl and Fanton are going to have some good battles this year i cant wait !!!!
