First big game of the scl this year any predictions. Both teams have good guard play. Kerr and Duncan could be big impact players.

Arkport 55
Hammondsport 48

Arkport's low post presence will be the deal breaker I think. Should be a good game though.

Should of been at the game it was like 3-5 point game all night Arkport lead by 2 at the half towards the end of game got really crazy....

It started with a arkport player using some words and actions he shouldn't atleast 3 times and should of been T'd up. The Hammondsport coach got on the refs about it but they kinda of just ignored it.

Then at one point the JV coach of hammondsport was being bullied by one of the refs basically telling him to meet him somewere to fight..... it was really sad and on top of that the other ref told a hammondsport player to "tell ur A-hole coach to sit down and shut up"

i mean in section V the stress sportsmanship how can u inforce it when you got the refs out there acting the way as this crew did.

yes the game was poorly officated but i don't think that could of effected the outcome of the game because it happened so late but VERY POOR OFFICATING.

wait, wait, wait. I wasn't at the game, but I have been around Steuben Co. basketball for more than 20 years. I have a very hard time believing the referees would A) challenge a coach to a fight or B) say that to a player. Those are some pretty strong statements your making.....

cornellalum
12-04-2008, 09:38 PM
O yea were just lying about this just using this as an excuse why they lost.

Lukelakers
12-04-2008, 09:42 PM
no one said that. I am just asking if those statements are indeed true that the officials said that. I just can't believe an official would challenge a coach to a fight and tell a player to tell your a-hole coach to sit down. That is the issue, not the score....

i understand what you were saying luke but it really did happen those refs for some odd reason were just over the edge

I mean it was just idk i cant even discribe it but over the top def.

Lukelakers
12-04-2008, 09:47 PM
wow, well if that is the case, than it has to be looked into, don't you think....I am checking with some people that were there....One texted me after the game and made no mention of it, the other just emailed me and made no mention of it.......

they shoulda told you that Nick Smith is the most unclassiest basketball player ive seen.

Lukelakers

actually they told me the score and that Arkport will be tough in the SCL this year...that is all either said

Like it wasent really a loud thing like arugeing but the JV coach Mr. Kressly was sitting on the side line and just made a comment about the kid throwing his attitude problem and the ref got all steamed about it. Then they went back and forth and one thing lead to another. Luckily though Mr. kressly finally was the bigger man and stopped saying stuff. But it was just very amazing because the ref just seemed to keep provoking him from across the gym.

i know one was Tony Falco or Palco he was balding

Lukelakers
12-04-2008, 10:12 PM
Well, Tony has been officiating since I can remember and has been involved in state championship games, so I would be very surprised to hear that he acted in anyway that was described previously. Tony is a professional both on and off the court.

Welll he might of been the one ref not saying anything. Because it was the one ref who was doing most of it the one guy dident really say much it was this one ref who seemed to be doing it all so Tony might have been the guy keeping his mouth shut.

cornellalum
12-04-2008, 10:15 PM
and the other was a black haired fellow with short curly hair.

Yah i do recall that Cornell but the other guy with the like black gelled hair it seemed was really going on and on Tony i think was just trying to get it ended.

that is not bad. He meant he was going to T him up, not challenge him to a fight. And the JV coach has no busy saying anything to the varsity official during the varsity game

cornellalum
12-04-2008, 10:22 PM
well seeing how it was about the control of Nick Smith and kressly being a ref in the past i do see him having room to talk. And just for my information who has to control the game the coaches or the refs.

BBallBaller1492
12-04-2008, 10:28 PM
Also Cornell dont you remember that comment that Kressly made saying something like well its your job to like give T's and control the game

and the ref fired back with "Thats not my job"

so hes basically saying its not his job to make sure the game goes smooth???

cornellalum
12-04-2008, 10:29 PM
yea unless my hearing has shot i was sitting right next to kressly when this happened but i could be wrong.

Ummm no thats why were complaining

BBallBaller1492
12-04-2008, 10:33 PM
Umm no but there should have Mr. Lowin as u know is a laid back coach and never really gets hot but he was kinda getting into the game with the ref

I mean right out loud Nick Smith used profanity then he got all mad and made a gesture towards someone and then his coach took him out and he kicked a chair and punched the wall.

Lukelakers
12-04-2008, 10:34 PM
dude dont be so sarcastic, I am trying to have a discussion with u about this. I wasn't there, so I thought I would ask.

I think you mean "laid back" coach and not lame.....well....and I sat at courtside at the county tournament in Bath 2 or 3 years ago when Hammondsport played Prattsburgh and Lowin, the entire game, cried to the referees. I mean, the entire game....

And if the Smith player did act out like that, if the referees didn't take care of it, his coach should have disciplined him for his actions....

There are two sides to every story and I'd love to hear input from an Arkport fan that was at the game. I'm not saying you two are lying, I'm just saying that you would see the situation differently from the other sideline. I agree that Lowin is a pretty mellow guy. Luke aand I have both criticized SCL officials before for missed calls but I have tremendous respect for them and don't think Tony or any other SCL official would ever pick a fight with a coach or do anything disgraceful like that. They may have missed a few calls or been lenient in not calling a T. I felt that a Tech. was expected at C-S when the kid took his jersey off and threw a tantrum but none was given there either.
BTW, I went to Hammondsport so there is no bias against you two from me. I just want to hear the other side's opinion.

Of course there is another side to the story.

The game was well played for the first three quarters with runs made by both teams.

The fourth quarter degenerated as Arkport pulled away.

At that point the game got rough as HPort tried to pick up their defensive intensity.

Hober and Falco were officiating the game.

Both are excellent officials but if you have seen them officiate a game they let the players play.

After several rough plays where Arkport players ended up on the floor with no call Nick Smith was fouled hard and said Jimminy Cricket (this is a family web site) in a loud voice.

The outburts wasnt directed at anybody but was a reaction to the frustration all of the Arkport players were feeling at the way the game was being played.

The officials chose to ignore the outburst.

Maybe that was the appropriate way to handle the situation, maybe it wasnt.

A technical foul wouldnt have changed the outcome of the game.

Im dissapointed that the discussion after this exciting game has focused on this relatively minor loss of composure.

Nick Smith is having a very good season and despite the earlier comment is a very fine young man.

He is also a seventeen year old boy who is passionate about basketball.

If the worst he does is blurt out Jimminy Cricket (see disclaimer) in a heated moment I think he will turn out ok.

yes but were not complaining about the outcome just the poor decision and handling of the situation by the refs.
