yeah im so excited to high jump. ive been waiting all xc season to jump.

same here man it's been on my mind all summer and all xc, the clinic at UB gave me a lot of helpful tips that i hope to peice together with my form now and hopefully have it all together by the end of the year, but i want to get a good jump in this weekend have you been practicing a lot?

soccerstud11

On the distance side of things the 1,000 was crap...the 1600 was a good..what was thought to be opening time...of 4:37 by adam vanvleck..he ran nxn like 5 days ago so hes still at his peak..so sry to say we should see him take some time off now and come back significantly slower

Snowboarder32
12-04-2008, 07:55 PM
I can cover all the jumps

High Jump- as i said already was relatively low compared to what i expected but it might just be taht most of the better high jumpers are outside of monroe

Triple Jump- seemed insane 6 jumpers over 40, 2 at 45, and the top jump and second best were only .25 apart, thats pretty insane along with all the other plus 40 jumpers

no long jump this meet there will be long jump saturday though so we'll see how that goes

the 1000 was decent for a opening time you gotta think this is the first meet, specially if these runners went to states for xc and took a week off. i would like to see what dinan does tomarrow, i might go.

Lol, you missed a great race man! The part that made it even better was that there was a huge group of Batavia kids going crazy before the race even started. It was dead silent when they saw LeRoy come around that second corner in first place.

I guess you'll just have to wait and see! ;) I told you we have a few tricks up our sleeves this year.

I did see that botched handoff. Looked like you guys were having trouble when you were warming up with the hand off from Shafer (I think) to the guy who handed to you.

That was a really exciting relay. I wanted to see LeRoy and Alexander in the same heat though to see how they matched up head to head.

yeah that would've been a good race yesterday with everything the same haha neck to neck

the thing about the handoffs was the first(jay) and second(kirk) legs were messing up their handoffs and we were all gettin mad the 3rd leg(chris) and i have been the only ones hittin clean handoffs in practice all season so it was the opposite of what normally happened haha

i was so pissed when i had to basically stop to get the baton

Jumps for 12/6/08

I thought they were pretty good for the first meet and most probably not getting much practice at them

High- 4 people over 6' Fontanez and Sutherland both at 6'4 Drock at 6'2 and myself at 6' despite lasting 3 hours i liked it a lot it was a good showing and with Bell gone a lot opens up for a trip to states in High

Long- Vanderbrook of Marion had the best jump of the day but seemed a little low for his standard last season (jumped 19'5) no one over 20 but by the end of the season i think he'll be a lot farther, 3 other kids 19'+

Triple- Vanderbrook again with the longest jump of the night 40'7" which again is below his standard but a good showing none the less for the first meet, this event will eb dominated by the monroe county teams for the states picture (6 over 40' 2 in 45' haha)

soccerstud11
12-07-2008, 05:31 PM
for sure think he'll break 7 in the 55?

Maybe. The scary thing is that the 55 is his favorite event. He talks about wanting to run it everyday. With how hard he is working this year and his desire for the 55 I think he might be able to go under 7 in the 55.

Good coverage of the jumps as well. It looked like a lot of people were under their personal bests which was probably due to the lack of field events practices as the season just started basically.

So there was no impressive 1,000 at all this week...and only me and vanvleck could crack 4:40 in the 1600...some of the better distance runners havent started yet b/c of x-c going late for them... so hopefully this weekend some of them will run again

haha i'm hopin he isn't doing indoor, better shot at me for patches :D and hurts williamson a lot.

and yeah calvin doesn't want to run for 3 sports straight he wants to give them a break, which i tried to argue with him to do indoor but he was stiff against it so oh well we'll ahve to manage

the only jump that was weak seemed to be vanderbrook's long the rest was everyone's average or better i don't think jumpin indoor is much different, more constant if you ask me, no wind or rain... or snow

I think jumping indoor is more consistent. You don't have to worry about head wind/tail wind/cross wind and different weather conditions. As for the weak jumps, it was the first meet and, atleast in LeRoy's case, a lot of people have not had a lot of field event work yet. I expect to see about the same results again at U of R this week then the next week they will probably be better jumps.

They only have 4x200 in indoor. No open 200.

They must of had it sometime cause they have a time in the record books for it.

I really wish they had it when i ran :(

I think they usually have one meet a year where they run different events like the 400 and 800. Maybe every other year. But I remember they had a 200 in one meet too.

Girls

On the boys side the 2 mile was good. 10:07 is a very nice time for this early in the season. I actually never heard of kevin before. He did beat out tripp and phelan who are also good competitors so props to him. Is he in class D?
The 1,000 wasnt very strong again this week. It seems as though alot of the top distance runners on the boys side have stayed away from the 1,000 so far. Maybe because they havent started very intense speed work?

On the girls side of distance the 3,000 was pretty good. 11:03 is also not a bad time for this early. The 1,000 was the stacked event though. Sauter dominated in 3:01. With sawnor right with here. Very Very Impressive a 3:01 is FAST!

Kevin was good at xc, correct me if im wrong, top 5 or 10 in mcquaid. I'm actually surprised he ran that fast, that's a very good time for the beginning season. Fontz did good in the 600 he prolly went easy haha. We have our meet today, i should win shotput haha not really im seeded last. The 1000 should be decent. I know that sean day is in the 600 he should do good. That 2:44 is a good time for beginning of the season.

I just got back from the late meet at the U of R. It was just a bad track to run on so the 2 mile was decent, i didnt really catch the leaders of the 1000 but it was decent, and the 600 was decent, Sean Day ran pretty good at that track.

I watched him. I figured he would be getting out at like 5' 6" or so because he missed a couple times at 5' 3" and a couple times at 5' 6". His form was alright at best. I can see him goig up to atlest 6' 1" or 6' 2" if he gets his form down.

I don't think it was a fluke. I was watching him since I did it and his form wasn't even what I would consider good form.

I think Hornell, with Acor, Mullen, and Renzo, could have 3 people at or over 6 feet in the high jump.

You never know what can come at you towards the end of the season. You always seem to find a few that have been sitting out for half the season or get a medical excuse to compete at sectionals. One of the different things about indoor, you just need to automatic once and then you can basically do other events. I know some guys do this and then bust out just before sectionals.

i'm kinda like that once i get an automatic for something i wanna try and get in to as many events as i can so my coaches and i can see where i stand for sectionals and where i can get the most points, unless it's my favorite event (High Jump) or a relay i do different stuff every weekend to get as many automatics as i can then see what i can do at sectionals

wtf no. it was the officals fault...we were arguing w/ her but she insisted they did 3 laps and we HAD to go get the handoff...we did what wwe were told and its not like it matterd cause no one who actually did 4 laps was anywhere close to winning anyhow

I remember in outdoor track at sectionals 2 years ago they made the girls run a 2400m steeple chase. The official lost count somehow so the times were crap and it really sucked for the girls doing like the 1500 and 3000 races later on.
I don't know what you could do, stop and argue with the official? I know some officials just totally ignore you if you question them, their call is final and thats it. Even if your coach is there counting laps.....

Lets hope the officials stay awake.
