Did Averlin Collier play?
Yeah, he's played all three days. CC scrimmaged Gates Chili on Monday, Batavia on Tuesday and Athena and Batavia yesterday. The offensive and defensive lines are the strength of this team and it showed in all the scrimmages. Returning on the line is 4th year starter, Steve Dunn, 3rd year starters, Dave Kubarycz and Joey Yanaitis, and 2nd year starter Collin Martin. Dan Brewer, a situational position player last year, fills out the mix. The Saints have an experienced, strong and quick offensive and defensive lines.
Averin Collier is a gifted athlete with the vision, elusivity, speed and strength that makes him standout, but let's not forget that there's 10 other guys on that field that are blocking, tackling and playing outstanding football. Averin Collier is a great football player, but it's a great offensive line that opens up the holes for him to cut through. Last year, when he was injured for the Brockport game, his backup, Chris Vitale, had 206 yards rushing on 23 carries in a 29-14 win for the Saints, proof positive that the strength this team is the line... and yeah, it's also Averin.
We know that alot of people are watching Averin and that's fine, but as a person that's coached alot of these kids since they were 7 and 8 years old, this is a great team. I just wanted to put things into perspective. :)

The kids said they thought they did pretty well.I heard they scrimmages last night too.The coaches told them that when they play CC,it is not about scoring touchdowns or stopping you guys. It's about recognizing your offense and defense and being where you are supposed to be. If they got blocked out of a play or didn't get any yards on a play it was OK as long as they were doing what they were supposed to do and giving maximum effort. Coach told them they would never play a team of your caliber and if they did as good in a game as they have been against you guys, they were going to blow some teams away this year. They have a ton of confidence thanks to the work that CC has given them. They have seen it all with CC so I don't think any team could surprise them with anything this year. It's going to be a matter of execution.
I know they scrimmaged Athena to last night also. There a different story. They definitely want to beat these guys. There in the same division and play them this year.I heard the was a little cat and mouse going on with Athena only letting their 2nd string and JV play against Batavia because they don't want to show their talent.Batavia only ran generic plays against them too.I guess thats proof that the season is here.Do you know anything about Athena?I heard they are very good.I think they are in your class.Batavia usually gets to play Olympia or Arcadia which are much weaker but got Athena too this year. This one might get ugly for Batavia!
By the way,The quarterback has rejoined the team.Good for him.He is an incredible athlete that also excels in track and field, and is very capable of getting an athletic college schlorship somewhere. That can only help his situation in the long run.

Your guys did well in the scrimmage. Coach Geiger will get them ready! Athena is a tough football team and they have a commitment to the weight room as well. They always play us tough. It's not unusual for teams that meet in the regular season, to run the base offense and not show their hand in scrimmages. We even did that in Pop Warner football. I'm glad your QB came back. It would have been a shame for the kid to give it all up.
What position does your son play?

Leroy has a great team every year and they always find a way to win even in close games. With that being said, this year might be the best chance Batavia has had in a while to beat them.I'm not saying they are going to win but I am hoping they make a game out of it.I know last years game was a blowout but I think they stayed with them until the second half even with a marginally talented offense, about 18 penalties and only 20 players. The penalties and small roster seem to catch up with Batavia in the second half of every game. The offense has improved tremendously, with several guys that can make plays.Their defense might really scare some teams this year.If you compare this years team to the one they had a few years ago that was so talented but underachieved probably because the defense was so terrible. I would say overall this is a much better team.Of course they don't have a Jermaine Henderson in the backfield but they have so many players that can break plays.A typical Batavia team every year has a couple of playmakers and if you stop them you stop Batavia. This years team has several players that can step in if one player is stopped.Whether anyone does step up is another story. They also have the defense.I'm not saying it is enough to stop Leroy or to score points against them but hey you never know! You might not want to miss this one!
Has Batavia ever beat Leroy?
