been to batavia and attica so far. batavia has small numbers, but i liked the new qb and attica surprised me at how great they looked. i watched scripp in some passing drills and for somebody that has never been a qb, he looked solid.
and yes, wolfley is out! that's huge.

i'll be checking out alexander and notre dame next today, then le roy and letchworth tomorrow before elba, oakfield and pembroke on thursday.

Also saw Alexander and Notre Dame today. Alexander has decent numbers, but I'm not sure about how the offseason workouts went. Antonucci looks tough.
And don't expect too much of a let-down for Notre Dame. Even with Giese, Redick and Everett gone, the Irish should be in the mix.

Checked out Le Roy and Letchworth today.
Le Roy is as good, if not better, than last year. Epps and Whiting are animals up front and the Humphrey kid looks very fast. The team that comes out of Class C could win states.
Letchworth has small numers but has a talented QB in Tones and a RB in Nevinger. And the Konka kid looks big. I'm not sure how Tim McMullen's team will do against the big boys, but they could surprise.

everybody loves the field. i have been to a couple of games there now and i think c-m should be hosting some playoff games. it's one of the best facilities around.

i've heard they should be very good. either cal-mum for le roy in division 2. cal-mum is a fringe school in our coverage area so i don't know a lot of people from caledonia. i've just heard a ton of good kids up from the jv team and i know that last year's team was better than its record.

How did Pembroke and Oakfield look today, Hilly?

Sorry, I'm so busy working on getting these visits and stories done I forgot to post.
I went out to Elba today and they have great numbers and a lot of kids coming back. I would not be shocked if the Lancers are in the mix. Zambito is as good as any other QB in the league and the receivers are a good group.
Oakfield is amazing ... probably not a surprise. With them it's all about the line and those guys are big, strong and talented. There is a new group of back and I think they will do just fine.
I didn't go to Pembroke, but talked to some kids from the team. Last year they were the best team in the regular season and have McKenrick coming back. I knew the o-line was going to be good like it always is, but I'm sold on how good they will be after talking to a couple of guys from that unit.
After just four days of practice, I've got Oakfield and Pembroke far above everybody else. I think Attica and Elba are on that second tier, but all it takes is a big win or two and they can win the league title.
The GR is going to be very fun this year.

/no high school visits tomorrow because I'm covering the Bills/Falcons game. But I'll have more next week.

I just wanted to note that I'm very pleased to have Michael Johnson from LCN doing the cover this year. Mark Gutman just had his second child and is off this week, so I brought in Johnson.

i always love writing up alexander. :p
the problem with soccer is that most coaches don't put in the effort you do. half the time i have to call these guys to get basic information.
and to be honest, i'm all about football and soccer gets in the way. if it weren't at the same time as football i'd be a huge soccer guy. i actually watch mls on tv once in a while. shocking.
i also love volleyball.
but cross country is a pain. i don't understand why training to play a real sport is considered a sport. what's next ... weight lifting competitions. i can see it now. i'll be writing about some kid that benches more than another kid because section 5 wants to call it a sport.

i did not change wolfley's words. i had it on tape, my quotes are always exact. i think people in attica were looking to hate on wolfley and took what he said wrong. he said that his teammates were getting better, not that they were terrible.
and then i had to hear how much i hate wolfley. i think he's one of the best talents i've seen in years and a good kid.

I think Oakfield and Pembroke are far above every other team at this point. It's going to be a two horse race for the title I think.
I know Attica played very well on defense and might be the third best team at this point.
Alexander and Notre Dame are better teams than what we saw from Week 1 - they just played two great teams.
I'm shocked at how bad Elba was. I understand Attica played well, but seven turnovers is really bad.
Barker hung with Red Jacket. The Raiders could win a game or two.

I've been sick for three days and have actually missed games because I can't get off the couch. Don't get me wrong, in between naps and such I've been on the internet and listening on the radio.
Great action this weekend. If Pembroke, Le Roy and Cal-Mum aren't thinking Oakfield is for real after Friday, they are nuts. Next week will be fun and Class C will be a battle in every game.
Sorry I'm not on every thread, but I am really dealing with a situation where I am up and down. I'm hoping to be better soon. Good luck to all the local teams.

Nada. I only get to take results over the phone until the X-mas tournaments. We only have a three person staff and one of the other two is on vacation for like the whole month.
My season doesn't start until New Years for the most part.

Imagine taking voicemails and talking to a coach from every game (7 boys games, 7 girls games, 2 hockey games, 6 wrestling matches, and probably 5-6 swim meets), then setting up all the boxscores and writing them up all before laying out the agate page (B-2).
I'll probably get done with all of that around 2:30-3 if I'm lucky.

It is.
If you are writing you have to remain down the middle and be fair to all teams (even though people think most writers aren't). If you are involved in sports it is a conflict of interest.

It's pretty early but I'd say that Ruddock and Pratt will be the top two RBs coming back with a surprise for top QB as I'm taking Kehlenbeck from Oakfield. He won't throw for a ton of yards, but will throw for more yards than any O-A QB since Dowd showed up.

Pembroke lost a ton this year and I think they still should be good, but they will have some new stars.

Tough to tell. I'd think there is a lot of skill coming back, but it is all going to depend on numbers to tell you the truth. The roster needs more kids to compete.

yea ik next year there are gona 5-10 juniors that are gona be seniors next year that are gona be coming back since it is there senior year. we have alot of talent in a school but guys just dont come out for some reason. im not worried about who comes out as long as they come out to play. im doin my part ik that. i will be the most expirenced linemen cuz im the only three year starter since corey trebushin or eddie mcdonald i think corey tho.

It is the best scrimmage around and Oakfield really is an awesome football program now. I wouldn't be shocked though if Dowd was looking for some AAA schools to go up against. That guy won't back down.

the cal-mum scrimmage is always great. it is a pre season gut check for teams. it shows what they need to work on and where they stand with some teams. This previous season it was BLAZING hot there lol.

i haven't talked to him in a while, but if he doesn't have a job i would hope he wouldn't come back. the guy would be nuts to stick around if batavia isn't going to take care of him.
