Syracuse University Appeals Board has suspended Eric Devendorf immediately the University and has prohibited from all University activities, including the men’s basketball team.
The Appeals Board modified the sanctions set by the University Judicial Board. The board recommended Devendorf be suspended for at least one academic term after he allegedly struck a female SU student in the face the morning of November 1.
Devendorf must meet a community service requirement if he wants to return to the University for the Spring 2009 semester.
If he fulfills the requirement and returns, the University says Devendorf must also meet an additional set of requirements to remain a student.

This comes the day before SU is scheduled to play Memphis, If he's guilty I definately think this is the right thing, but I'm holding out hope that he's innocent of this, who knows but hopefully the truth comes out sooner or later

Well Spring Semester 2009 gives him a lot of PT left to go.
It doesn't matter what any legal authority finds now, he has to fulfill the requirements of the school to stay registered. I'm guessing he'll do what they've asked and continue playing again at the end of January.

I'm disappointed that I put myself in this position which resulted in being suspended as a student and unable to participate in a number of games, including tomorrow's game," Devendorf said in a statement released this afternoon. "I understand the decision and will be complying with all of the requirements of it."
Said Coach Jim Boeheim: "Eric clearly made a mistake and should be punished. It is his responsibility to fulfill the requirements of this decision."
The hearing board determined that Devendorf did intentionally hit Smith but did not cause her physical harm, according to its decision.
Devendorf's lawyer, William Sullivan, said Devendorf will not challenge the appeals panel. He added that Devendorf intends to abide by the conditions imposed.
That includes an initial requirement that he complete 40 hours of community service before he will be allowed to apply for reinstatement as a student on campus, Sullivan said. The appeals panels included some very specific locations for that community service to be done but Sullivan would not reveal what they were.
"First things first," Sullivan said, noting it would be Devendorf's intention to get right at that community service.
Once Devendorf is readmitted as a student, he will be required to complete another 40 hours of community service, Sullivan said. The appeals panel decision also includes some additional requirements for Devendorf to meet once he is reinstated as a student, but the lawyer declined to reveal what they were.
"He's going to comply with each requirement," Sullivan said.
"He's very thankful that he has been given this opportunity," Sullivan said. "His intent is to meet each requirement. He's looking forward to being a student at Su again, rejoining the basketball team and continuing his course requirements so he can graduate next May."

I would like to know why, if the Syracuse POLICE, beilieved there not to be enough evidence to CHARGE Devo, how in the world can the school do this to him? If he did it he should be gone, he was already on thin ice for prior incidents, but where is the burden of proof and evidence here? If the POLICE didn't feel there was enough to go on to charge him with anything, how can the school justify doing this to this young man?

Not that it matters cause he is only gonna be suspended for 2 games, but a school's code of conduct and the law are two different things especially for an athlete on probation.
