Class D
Bolivar-Richburg-Kam Konert and Co. are the Favorites in Class D, and could compete for the State Final Four.
Notre-Dame-Christian Bochicchio will be their main weapon with the Graduation of Karl Geise.
Elba-Rocco Zambito and a couple of Big guys return Casey Hoover 6'4" 215 lbs and Ian Woodworth 6'4" 205 lbs
Class C
LeRoy
Cal-Mum
Oakfield-Alabama
Class B
Bath-Haverling-One of the top Backfields in Section V with Speedy Junior Andre McLoud, Fullback Brett Havens & QB Jake Kuver, along with a strong Defense anchored by T.C Carroll, Bath is looking tough.
Hornell- David Zapata returns to Hornell for his Senior year, he lost his whole offensive line so the question is can the new guys open holes? He'll be joined in the backfield with a new QB Sr. D.J Schwartz who spent the last few seasons as a Receiver playing both WR & TE, Schwartz 6'3" 220 lbs should be able to make the transition, but that takes away a big target in the field. The new players especially on the line will be the key to Hornells success.
E-R/Gananda-Junior QB Neal Dotterer broke the Section V passing record in a game last season going 17-24 411 yards vs. Waterloo and led E-R/Gananda past Bath in Sectionals before losing to Geneva in the Semi-Finals. Dotterer is no longer a secret, so Defenses will be looking for the long bombs, if he has a couple of good receivers he could lead "The Bombers" deep into sectionals.
Geneva-Class B State Champs lost most of their weapons but should remain competitive and could play a major "Spoiler" role come sectional time.
Class A
Aquinas
Class AA
Churchville-Chili

Bath has skill players galore. McCloud, Havens and Kuver are all staples in the backfield. I think you may also see Cody Hutcheson and Andy Nesbitt share some time, there, also !? The real question mark comes with Bath's ability to produce both a solid offensive and defensive line, in my opinion. There are, however, solid contributors on both sides of the ball. I am told that we may see more " two-way " players, also for Bath this season. Coach has always liked to limit this to keep his players fresh for the 4th quarter and wear other teams down. Eric Argenteri will most likely play both ways ( offense and defense ) along with McCloud ( safety/RB ), Mark Bart ( OL/DL ), and possibly Cody Hutcheson ( CB/RB ). Let's hope that Jake Kuver does not get hurt or banged up. It is rumored that back up QB MacKenzie Durham is not playing football this year. Last year's JV QB, Drew Seager will play on the OL somewhere, in all likelihood, so someone will have to step up to fill that # 2spot.
It will be interesting to see if Bath will diversify their offense a little bit this season ? The boys have spent a great deal of time participating in 7 on 7 skills competitions and have fared very well. Jake Kuver has thrown the ball extremely well and is capable of doing so ( on a consistent level ) if given the time to throw. Gone are the days of Mark Robinson and Bejer (sp ) where you could pound the ball 30-40 times and they were durable enough to absorb the pounding. Andre weighed in at 155 pounds at the UB camp and is now ( I am told ) at about 162. He has lightening speed, but can't take too many significant hits with that frame. ( of course you have to catch him first ! )
Hornell will re-load and will present a challenge to any one that they play. Schwartz was a JV quarterback two years ago and there is no question re: his arm strength. Look for them to throw on a more regular basis. Geneva will also be very tough. Whitcomb does an outstanding job with them year in and year out ! ER has a passing game which can give most HS teams fits and they could be a final four team, I think.
If Bath's skill players stay healthy ( barring an unforeseen injury ) they should have enough firepower to seriously challenge for a sectional champoinship this season. Go Rams !!
