Yeah, the Section V schedule makers need to be commended for arranging this rematch for the first game of this season. It should be a barn-burner. Marshall has a young QB, but he's a good one. Marshall's wideouts flat burn! I spoke with St. John Fisher Coach Paul Vosburgh a few weeks ago and Marshall won the Fisher two day 7 on 7 passing camp. He was impressed by them. Marshall also took the Greece Olympia 7 on 7 competition.
In order for that Saints to stay in this game, they'll need to dominate the line of scrimmage (http://www.ccsaintsfootball.com/Marshall_SaintsOnDefense1.mpg), put pressure on the Marshall QB (http://www.ccsaintsfootball.com/marshall_dave18.jpg) and open up holes for Averin Collier (http://www.ccsaintsfootball.com/Marshall_CollierRun2.mpg) and Chris Vitale (http://www.ccsaintsfootball.com/Marshall_Vitale_Run2.mpg). I wish the game was at Paetec Park. I bet it would draw 5,000-10,000 people.

I heard the cal-mum qb won the tourneys passing MVP! with over 16 td passes not bad for traditionally run-oriented team hey?? cal-mum went 7-1 at the fisher apssing tourney losing only to e-r i tell you neil dotterer for e-r is the real deal..wish cal-mum would play against marshall and the biggers schools,,,,,

So do you think Coach Monacelli (http://www.cal-mum.com/monacelli06.htm) will open up the offense and take advantage of your QB? I've heard that Dotterer was the real deal.

I hope so they have a great backfield this year too!

How was this game decieded for who was home?coin flip?
I'm not sure. It's doubtful that the Marshall Field can hold all the fans that want to see the game and the parking is not very good. Paetec Park would be great for a showcase game like this.

I inserted 4 pictures from last year's Marshall game into the slideshow of the Saints Football website. They're what I call "remember when" motivators. Just click on the link below and click on the "Start" button below the picture:

Thanks man! I'll try to post something here in this thread about the game. Our offensive and defensive lines are the key. If the defensive line can rattle the Marshall QB early, we have a shot. If our offensive line plays like they did at the Fairport scimmage, our running backs, Averin Collier, Nate Boland, Chris Vitale and Dustin Dillard, will gain yardage in large chunks.
We'll see! :)

Hi All,
The Democrat and Chronicle posted a pre-game video about the Churchville Chili vs. Marshall game. Click on the link below to see it!

Greeceman...when I first saw your posts...I thought you were halfway smart...after reading this one...you truely dont know football at all...Just because a team has "new faces" (which in you're preception obviously means they are game changers), doesnt mean anything...plus dont you think the paper would of mentioned something about these kids by now? I agree with you that CC is going to win, but it will have nothing to do with this Quenton kid and/or Jordan Eich...hell they are probably just kids that go to the school and felt like joining the team!

Don't think that just because a kid is not mentioned in the paper that they are not good. Especially if that paper is the D&C who wants everybody to believe that they are a high school sports paper now. Remember games are not all ways won by the best players and that players who nobody knows can step up and be the star.

Jordon Eich is the QB of the future for the Saints and Quinton Penn is a good DB and both will see playing time. The Saints return 18 of 22 starters from last years 8-1 team and have 30 seniors on the team. One of those seniors, lineman Steve Dunn, has been on varsity since the 9th grade. Five other seniors, Dave Kubarycz, Nate Boland, Joe Yanaitis, Matt Szczupakowski and Averin Collier have been starters on varsity since the 10th grade. The offensive and defensive lines are experienced as are the linebackers. These young men have all worked in the weight room year round and they are a very strong team, one of the strongest in America according to Bigger Faster Stronger magazine.
It all comes down to execution on the field at Marshall today. The Jurists are a very good football team that runs a 5 wideout spread offense while the Saints run a power offense, quite a contrast. It's going to be a great game! May there be no injuries and may the better team prevail.

does this win really give redemption for last year? BTW Marshall is no where near the team they were last year with only 25 players this year. Your team is good but lets not get crazy.

I think he's just excited. There's been a lot of hype leading up to this game. It's gotta be a good release for C-C to get this off their back.

Lots of good players on the Saints
The Kicker is amazing
That little Vitale rushed for more yards than the "Big C" Collier...referring to his head not his playing...(He better hurry up and make a verbal to one of the D1's before they find out that the "Big D" (Paul Dick) should be given the " Advertiser of the Year award"
Great Job to the Marshall Q.B....He's going to be bigger than the "Big C'

Hey do you know Collier? For someone who's putting him down it might help to know him. I've sat down and talked with him and he's a very down to earth kid and humble also. So you might want to think twice before you rip some one/

Yes, Averin is a great person, however, no matter how you slice it...with year in and year out the Saints Coach finds a way through his words and actions to make Churchville a one-man team. I was at the game...without all the hype, he would of been one of many really good players who contributed to an outstanding victory against a worthy opponent, instead it all becomes about him, Churchville fans grumbling, Marshall fans taunting...All they got is one player...Where's superman?...
All I'm saying is that he has begun to believe his own press...
Confucious said: "A superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his actions"
And to the Coach...
Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.
Michael Jordon...(A guy who knows a little something about both)

Wow, this was a great high school football game and it was closer than the score indicates. The Saints received the opening kickoff and Averin Collier had a great return well into Jurist territory. The Jurist defense stiffened though and the Saints turned the ball over on downs.
Marshall's first play from scrimmage was a long pass, that Mike Laurri intercepted. The Saints moved the ball deep in Marshall territory, but the Jurist defense held again. Saints kicker, Matt Szczupakowski missed the field goal attempt.
Marshall took over on offense and moved the ball down the field and QB Ashton Broyld ran it in from 29 yards out to score the games first points. To put the Jurists on top, 6-0. Broyld is a 6'3" freshman who is very talented and will be playing for Marshall for many years... watch out for this kid, he's the real deal!
After the ensuing kickoff, the Saints drove the ball down to the Marshall 29 yardline where the Jurist defense stiffened again and Matt Szczupakowski kicked a 44 yard field goal. Szczbo (pronounced Sezbo) was one of the stars of this game both with his kicking and also his quarterbacking. On the Saints next possession, he hit Brandon Litteer on a beautifully thrown pass that left the ball on the Jurist 1 yardline. Averin Collier scored from there to put the Saints up 9-6. The extra point was something special. Szczbo not only split the uprights, he sent the ball across Ridgeway Ave. onto a front porch of the house across the street! Szczbo had another "porch shot" later in the game! Szczbo had several great punts as well. He angled his first punt towards the sideline and Jurist Eddie Jackson ended up sliding out of bounds on his 10 yardline. Szczbo's next punt was from deeper in Saints territory and he boomed it over Jackson's head. That punt had to travel over 50 yards in the air and Jackson did touch it, but was able to recover, while being swarmed under by the Saints punt coverage team. One more thing about Szczbo was his kickoffs. He totally neutralized the dangerous Eddie Jackson by booting the ball either into the endzone on the fly or out of the endzone. That was a key early in the game that kept Marshall pinned deep in their own territory.
A key play was made on one Marshall drive by Saints defensive end, Dan Brewer. The Jurists had the ball deep in Saints territory when Brewer ripped the ball out of Jurists QB Broyld's hands. Marshall would have gone up on the Saints if they had scored, but the heads-up play by Brewer snuffed that out and the Saints defense dominated the rest of the game.
One other beautiful pass was made by Saints QB Szczupakowski to Vance Lenney that took the ball to the Jurist 1 yardline where Collier scored again.
The Saints offensive and defensive lines and linebackers took over from there. Steller play from DE Joe Yanaitis (7 tackles, 1 sack and a forced fumble) and DT Steve Dunn (4 tackles, 1 sack and several QB hurries). Great linebacking from Collin Martin, Matt Kerwin and Brandon Hodgins shut the door on the Marshall offense. The Jurists did rip off a few long ones, most notably a beautiful diving catch by Eddie Jackson, but the Saints defense wore the Jurists down.
A tribute to the Saints offensive line was two running backs that rushed for 100 yards for the game. Oppponents will find out that you can't just key on Averin Collier anymore. Collier did have a respectable 102 yards and 3 TD's on 19 carries. Chris "the pinball" Vitale was the straw that broke the camels back with 116 yards on 14 carries, including a 13-yard touchdown run. Nate Boland, a 6'2" 230 pound fullback had a few crushing runs as well. I'd hate to be a DB having to take on Boland one on one!
As I mentioned at the start of my post, the game was closer that the final score indicated. The Saints were up only 10-6 at halftime. The Marshall defense snuffed several drives by the Saints early on but as DE Joe Yanaitis was quoted in the D&C "It was a weight-room issue," Yanaitis said. "We really worked hard in the offseason, not just for this game, but for all of our games". The Saints simply wore down the Jurists and scored 31 unanswered points. They play a very physical game.

There weren't as many people at this game as I thought there would be.
1,100 is nothing.
There should have been 3,000 watching this one.

I looked back at a previous post by saintsdad that said there would be 5000-10000 if the game was at the soccer stadium. I saw both finals games last year and there were less then 1000 people there. It would not matter where this game was that was about the size it was going to get. I think someone thinks more people care about this then they really do? We still live in NY and and its never going to be Texas football. So when you get your 1500 people be really happy because thats a good crowd.

Thanks man! It was a big win and I wanted to make sure that folks had the right story. Szczbo was a huge factor in that game, both with his QBing and his kicking!

Great win for Churchville. Those kids showed they are not a one man team.It was a total team effort.I see that Collier didn't get his usual yards.Did Marshall stop him or did Churchville decide to spread the ball around? That Vitale kid is amazing for his size.He would make a great D-3 running back.Is he planning to play college football?

Thanks football#1! Yes it was a total team effort. Szczbo's kicking totally neutralized the Marshall return game. His two passes to Brandon Litteer and Vance Lenney were on the mark and he also had a couple of bootlegs that gained good yardage and kept drives alive!
Chris Vitale and my son have been playing football together for 11 years now. Chris' Dad, Rick, is a long-time coach with the Chili Lions. Chris' oldest brother, Mike, played for Brockport and is a coach now with the Saints. Chris' middle brother, Nick, played for Alfred. Chris' Mom, Roseanne, has been deeply involved with the Chili Lions and the Saints. The Vitale's are a football family through and through and I'm so happy that Chris is getting carrries this year. Why wear out Averin Collier when you have change-up runner that can run the ball like Chris Vitale? I hope Chris plays college ball too, perhaps follow in Mike's footsteps and play at Brockport. I bet Brockport Head Coach Rocco Salomone would be interested in Chris!
