View Full Version : Canandaigua accepted into Monroe County!!!

Well I guess the discussion about the CA schedule is a debate that will no longer exist! It is my understanding that there will be an article in tomorrow's D&C stating the Canandaigua has been approved by Monroe County.

Looks like Monroe County had a change of hart and re-voted to accept CA into the league for all sports. No more cup-cakes for Coach Guy if its by location.

My only question is how will this effect division alignment? will it be based on enrolment or by location?

Can you imagine the East Side League? CA, HFL, Mendon, Sutherland, Fairport, Penfield, Rush, Webster's? That could be the best division in the state!

I think the Websters would be an exception. They are pretty bad.

Big news, there will be an article in tomorrows paper stating that CA has been accepted by Monroe County for all sports in the 2009-10 season.

Sounds like they had a change of heart after getting voted down last month.

So who is in next? Keep your eyes on another AQ push.

So who is out? Keep your eyes on Odyssey & Batavia

If Batavia is allowed in GR, they will dominate. That would make no sense at all. Also, when the state forces these smaller districts to merge, you are going to create even more imbalance.

I doubt it. If anything Odyssey is closing its doors. The building will probably serve as another Jr High and kids will split between Athena and Olympia.

While Batavia might dominate in a couple sports they will not dominate in most. The only sport I see them as a hands down favorite to win ever year is bball for boys and girls. Other than that what sports are they definitely going to dominate if they were allowed into the GR (which is unlikely anyways)

They just dumped a boat load of money into that building, I don't see them closing it. Of course the Greece School Board has dine dumber things.

Victor, HAC, Bloomfield are all closer than Canandaigua. School night travel will be a challenge.

Batavia would be dominant in Basketball.

They would be strong in football.

Average in Baseball

Football I agree they would be strong - but I would think that Oakfield/Pembroke/Attica could all easily compete with what Batavia currently has.

In soccer I think the boys team would be competitive and would grow. Girls side in soccer I think they would struggle to beat the top tier of teams and fall in the middle tier.

Baseball I am not as familiar with.

I honestly think that in the long run it would help Batavia sports grow as they would be much more competitive in some sports than they currently are in many areas.

victor or hfl should not be allowed in MCL there not mcl teams.

Isn't part (or all) of HFL in Monroe County?

I would think those 3 are as much Monroe County as Batavia is.

Nope. No kids in the Pittsford district. Although I always thought that the parents of private schools were the most stuck up. LOL

Well lets just say this my friends....

When it somes out in the next day or so, remember who told you first! My connections didn't let me down. Truth be told the D&C was waiting for a few things to have "i" dotted & the "t" crossed. But if you would like more info on which woodchuck ran accross the field at today game I am sure Metcalf can help you out!

Sorry that I had info out so fast that no media outlet was ready to print the story. I'll try to keep that info under my hat next time.

Canandaigua, N.Y. — It might have seemed all for naught. But it wasn’t. All the hard work the Canandaigua school district’s Athletic League Placement Review Committee did to promote how valuable a move by the Canandaigua Academy athletic teams to Monroe County was not wasted. Nothing is official yet, but from my "not so trusty sources" is that the league is looking at a geographic alignment. The large class AA school will be divided into an East & West division. Not exactly sure where a few boarder schools will fall like Gates & Rush but it looks like the river will be the split. Any school not in Class AA will be in division 3. That should include Mendon, Sutherland, HFL, Victor, Brighton, Eastridge, Batavia, and Odyssey.

But I’m sure that info is out to early as well and no one will understand.

i heard that two of the Greece Schools Olympia and Arcadia will not be AA because of decrease in size.

they do not come out officially for another month. but Arcadia & Olympia should be Class A schools.

Not sure they wuold put them in division 3 because it would creat an unbalanced league alignment. They may opt to stay with geographic.

More info the D&C Article:
Monroe athletic conference adds Canandaigua, realigns divisions (http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20090112/SPORTS08/90112028)

Division I: Canandaigua, Irondequoit, Fairport, Penfield, Rush-Henrietta, Webster Schroeder, Webster Thomas.

Division II: Brockport, Churchville-Chili, Gates Chili, Greece Arcadia, Greece Athena, Greece Olympia, Hilton, Spencerport.

Division III: Batavia, Brighton, Greece Odyssey, East Irondequoit Eastridge, Honeoye Falls-Lima, Pittsford Mendon, Pittsford Sutherland, Victor.

According to that they won't split by school size for D1 and D2 any more, only by geographical location with D1 being the Eastside and D2 being the Westside. My guess is we'll have complaints about why call the Eastside D1 and the Westside D2 and we'll call them D1-East and D1-West.
