I found this topic being discussed on another popular message board and thought I'd discuss it here and see what our members think.
Apparently Bloomfields Athletic Director Pat Nolan is an assistant Coach at Pal-Mac, this is an interesting situation as I've never heard of this being done. Apparently Nolan's son plays J.V Basketball at Pal-Mac and Nolan helps out Chip Tatro with the Varsity team, does anybody see this as a conflict of interest?

Pat Nolan is a former girls varsity basketball coach at Pal-Mac. He led the team to several league titles and a sectional title.
Since stepping down from Pal-Mac, he took on the Athletic Director position at Bloomfield. His son, Sean, plays on the Pal-Mac JV team currently. If you look at Pal-Mac's Board of Education link you'll see that Daniel Harris is the JV boys basketball coach.
I am sure that to some degree Nolan might lend a suggestion or two. He and Chip Tatro go WAY back. However, it might be hard for Nolan to actually act as a coach since he is an athletic director and attends Bloomfield's sporting events.

The posts on the Syracuse forum are ridiculous. Pat Nolan is a first-rate father, coach, and athletic director. I can't say enough about this man. For anyone to say a bad word about the guy is just absurd and should be ashamed.

wow, that is a very unique situation. That seems weird that Pal-Mac would allow that.

So is he just basically and adviser for the JV team that his kid is on? Because I don't really see anything wrong with that.

Well Brick should get some facts straight about this guy.He never won any league championships with the palmac girls teams. He was only put in as coach when the longtime head coach Norb Miller was SUSPENDED in midseason 1999 for various sideline and player confrontations.By the way, Mr.Norb Miller the coach who was suspended from palmac after 20 years of coaching in 1999 is now the President of the Palmac Board of Education.Yes,the president of the board!!
Now does that help explain why this type of stuff goes on. Of course one hand washes the other. I guess at Palmac you can just show up and coach whenever you want, just as long as you know the right people. No BOE approval required it sounds like to me. Being on the Palmyra village board probably doesn't hurt Mr.Nolans influence with the powers that be either.Oh yes, just another endeavor that takes time away from his job at Bloomfield. Sounds like you have a really dedicated guy running your athletics program at Bloomfield.

I'm positive that you're the one that is on the lower end of knowledge when it comes to Pat Nolan. I have personally known Pat Nolan for 9 years. He took the girls varsity basketball team to win a sectional title in 2001. In fact, he was even named coach of the year that season. His credentials as a Bloomfield soccer coach are even more impeccable.
Although Norb Miller has been affiliated with the Pal-Mac district for many, many years, he is not a good person. His suspension as a basketball coach only scratches the surface of his unbecoming conduct with any position he has ever held, which includes teaching physical education, being a three-sport coach, and he is now the president of a very corrupt board of education.
There IS Board of Education approval at Pal-Mac. This can be found and proven on their website in the meeting minutes. However, just as many non-approved coaches show up. You're right in this regard.
Back to Pat Nolan, though. He has been involved with athletics for more than 30 years. He is the Bloomfield athletic director. Has three children, two of which are currently in college. He has coached over a half-dozen sports. He is on the Palmyra Village Board. He is an upstanding citizen, a terrific father, great coach and STELLAR person.
