Class D appears on paper to be a three horse race defending champion Whitesville returns a strong portion of there team from last year. They lost there on the floor general Ashlee brubaker to graduation, but return one of the better post players in Class D in Nicole Meehan and veteran, but young starter Stephany Ellison. Finney has been at the top of the rankings all season and appears to be strong. And Canaseraga is led by high scoring Ms. everything Kristen Moose who dropped 40 on a very good Fillmore team last week. Could be a rematch of last years overtime thriller semi-final when Whitesville rallied late for an 83-79 overtime victory. Then cruised in the final, beat Romulus in the playoff before losing in the regionals to Ripley. Believe it or not!! It appears 4-13 are really not viable contenders.

1. Canaseraga
2. Finney
3. Whitesville
whitesville has the ability to be #1 if they start playing as a team, and it they would play a little D would help also.

the desales saint are getting better as the season goes on, look for them to make a run in sectionals. they are playing more unified and they always come to the game focused. im gonna say watch out for maggie shaffer and sarah list. maggie shaffer is a very physical post player, she will scrap for any ball. sarah list is probably the best penetrator on the team, besides that fact she leads the team in scoring. they only lost to finney by 6, and watch out for when they get into the fast breaks.

Have not seen DeSales play. But in years past you always feared a team coming out of the Finger Lakes League with a poor record because of the competition they are playing each and every night. DeSales will see some good teams in the sectionals. But even those teams pale in comparision to the teams they play in league. ie: Bloomfield, South Seneca, Romulus and all.
If they are indeed playing well, it would be very easy to see them rounding out the semi-final with the 3 favorites. In order to do that, they would have to move up to the four or 5 seed to avoid a quarter final match up with Canaseraga which is what would happen if the season ended today.

i would agree, however seeing is how the season does not end today i believe the girls will win atleast 3 or 4 more games to move up 2 or maybe 3 seeds, if the bracket is set up right they honestly have a big shot at making it to the semi finals, if not the finals a possibility

At 5-11 presently and two games left against Romulus and South Seneca, can't see them getting higher than a 4-6 seed. So they will more than likely have to beat one of the big 3, finney, canaseraga or whitesville to get to the semi's

its more like 4 games and they already played south seneca twice. if desales wins out they could possibly be the 6th seed meaning they have a pretty easy way to the semi's. and yeah if they do have to play canaseraga, whitesville, or finney. i believe the desales girls would give them a run for their money.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Thank God we don't have a BCS system and the Girls get to decide it on the court!!

big game tonight for the lady desales saints as they play their first game of sectional play against 8th seeded lima christian. look for the saints to come out ready and focused for the game. watch out for the seniors to take the game to a new level. even though lima is playing at home in they're tiny court i like the lady saints poise and passion for the game, i am predicting they win, tonight on the road.

yeah it seems fairly obvious that class d is a 3 horse race. the drop off from the top 3 seeds to 4th seeded friendship is tremendous. friendship is probably the worst 4 seed ever. they beat up on some horrible teams this year to get to 10 wins. they've lost twice to belfast and twice to andover, their first round opponent. (by 26 and 30) finney moving up to the top seed was big because now they get to avoid canaseraga or whitesville until the finals. i see that lima played them close a couple times. do they have a chance to upset them?

You're right, there is a wide disparity between the top 3 and the rest. I only saw the one time score when Lima played Finney tough. That's good they did it twice, I didn't see the other score. Maybe Lima matches well with Finney. I wouldn't say Lima can't beat them, but I think Finney will be a little to much. Finney looks good, but we'll see how good if they meet Whitesville or Canaseraga.

i believe it will be Finney and Canaseraga in the finals. whitesville has the players to beat canaseraga but i do not think the coaching is there to get the job done

you can't be serious. dan denner is a great coach. i've seen him coach many times, watched him run practice, and even taken some coaching courses taught by him. i would argue that there is no coach in allegany county that has his or her team more prepared for each and every game than him. you can bet that his girls will be ready for the 3rd match-up with canaseraga and i wouldn't be shocked if they pull off the win. it's certainly going to be a heck of a game.

If it is anything like last years semi-final 82-79 overtime win by Whitesville it will be great. That was one of the best games I ever had the priviledge of being involved in.

what about in 07 whitesville is up by 1 with seconds left on the clock. throw the ball away and let andover inbound the ball under their offensive basket. andover won by 1
low basketball IQ caused this

did denner throw the ball away? andover had georgia bucholz then and they had a great season. whitesville was also very good that year but don't forget they were without nikki meehan due to her knee injury. stephany ellison was an 8th grader! jv call up briana meehan was also in 8th grade. still, it was a crazy play that led to the game winning buzzer beater by mercedes mosher. if denner wasn't a good coach running a great program i doubt glenn brubaker would've sent his daughter there.

Hoops you dont know the whole story about the brubaker girl going to whitesville. Here is the short version, her dad brought her up as an 8th grader kept 2 good 9th garders down to play mod team, one 9th grader was better than his daughter ask the 2 girls to come up for sectionals, the girls said no because they really did get better playing with the mod team. So the coach got mad and said well my daughter is going to whitesville then the 9-11 grade girls said well if we are not good enough for your daughter then we are not good enough for you coach. i think all along he brought his daughter up as an 8th grader got her playing time transfer her before she enter 9th garde.

you're right i don't. i was just trying to emphasize the fact that he probably wouldn't send his daughter to play for a coach that wasn't good.

Without knowing the coach or anything about his team, it sounds like he has lost control of this paticular group all the way around.

i don't really think this is the case although i'm just basing that opinion on the results of his team. andover is the 5 seed in class D and they will definitely knock off 4th seeded friendship in their first game. ref11 would certainly know more about the andover situation than me, but i had heard that he sent his daughter to whitesville because it gave her an opporunity to play in a better girls athletic program. it could also have something to do with him not wanting to coach is own daughter. that can sometimes put you in an awkward situation as a coach as well as a parent. either way, i'd have to say that the move has paid off so far since she's had great varsity soccer and basketball seasons.

i have not been to impressed with the brubaker girls performance at whitesville. but if the coach and players are not getting along getting his daughter out of there was a good thing.

Mr.Brubaker has done a great job coaching this year with the 7 players he has. they should make the semi finals and could give finney a game.

don't forget she's in 9th grade! she was a birds eye player of the week and put up 24 against andover. i can only imagine the range of emotions mr. brubaker must've been feeling that night! there's only a handful of 9th graders on varsity rosters in AC and Class D for that matter and none of them contribute as much as she does. especially not on a team with a record even close to 15-5.

your should watch her against a team that presses full court she does not want to touch the ball and it seems that she hides against good teams also.

I have to agree with Hilltop.... But, she has a LOT of potential.... with good coaching she can be a solid player..... She will play great for 5 min and disappear for who knows how long.... And about Denner.... he is a Football coach.... and coaches his team the same way.... He tries hard and pushes his players hard.... But, his basketball IQ is lacking... I can't say anything bad about him... he just doesn't coach in a BASKETBALL format.... and if you watch a game or practice... you'll see it... Whitesville has a lot of natural talent and he gets them to work hard... decent coach.... yes... great coach.... sorry no...

i was very disappointed in denner last night. whitesville was up 30+ points and he still had all his starters in the game. nichole meehan had a decent game she did not force up shots like i have seen earlier in the year and she handled the ball ok in the open court

i believe Canaseraga will beat whitesville by at least 15 if not 20. i would like to go watch this game, but i wont be able to because of reasons out of my control, but it will be a great game to watch. moose is awesome to watch!! wish i would have seen her play more.

Whitesville pulls off a dominate win. Canaseraga was never in the game. The Stef Ellison stopped Moose as well as any girl really can. I think she held her to 17 which... not many girls could do.... Meehan was a offensive force and could have had 10-14 more if she finished lay-ups half the time. Besides that a good game, Whitesville really put it too em and never gave the Moose girl a chance to get in a rhythm. I feel as if this was the championship game. I stuck around for the second game and saw really nothing from CG Finney.... they came up with some offensive boards that won't be there if Meehan and the other tall girl box out a little... which sometimes they dont... but I think Whitesville should have another championship under their belt very soon...
