Where are they? Are they CC or Munies?

I'm not sure Stafford would let me join there anymore. I personally play at Terry Hills, but also enjoy some of the holes at Batavia CC.

But if want to get serious, Wildwood CC, which I believe is in Albion is my favorite area course. It is built in the middle of the forest, you often see wild life and it has one of the most fun par 3s I've ever played.

The top course in driving distance is obviously Oak Hill, but I'm willing to bet that I'm one of the few on this site that have played it. I worked at Irondequoit CC when I was at Fisher and I snuck through some trees and played two holes at Oak Hill.
CC of Rochester is very nice and also tough to get on. I was lucky enough to play two tournaments there in college.
Ironwood, out near Pioneer, is a new course that I think has a lot of potential.

I actually thought about trying out for the UR team just so I could practice with them at Oak Hill, haha.

My 11 handicap isn't quite Oak Hill ready, though. :p

Yes. Forgot that one. Lots of nice courses in the area, really. Byrncliff is also very nice.

WNY is under appreciated as far as golf courses go.

If you're a beginner or an average player that wants to pat yourself on the back with a score in the 70s go to Delaware Park.

I hate cow pastures. I used to work at places like Torry Pines in SanDiego and PGA National in North Palm so I enjoy good tracks

I have played two courses at Oak Hill. played a week after the PGA Championship. That was expensive, I lost about 8 balls five steps off the fairway

For public courses around here, Ravenwood and Greystone are my favorites.

I've played 18 holes at Oak Hill twice. West Course was all we were allowed to play on at McQ this year because they were getting East ready for the Senior PGA. Still though, they are both extremely difficult. It was by far the best course I've ever played on.

Also played at Locust Hill a couple times and that is almost as fabulous.

it only has 9 holes. What the heck are you supposed to do after that, do they have put-put or something?

You play them twice, but from different tee boxes so the hole is different, and plays different. Just think our staff puts all our work into 9 holes, while other staffs spread their work amongst 18 holes. This makes each hole a higher quality.

I'll give it a shot. I'm going do a lot of features on local courses this summer because i can finally play golf again. i had to take two years off because of the wrists, but i'm healed up now and good to go.
You are more than welcome to join me when I play.

Yeah just let me and Turntwo know, we can set up a time. My mom basically runs the place so I can get free carts.

YOu want scenic and challenging go to Reservoir creek in Naples. GORGEOUS and tough! www.rcgolf.com. Bristol Harbor just up the road on Canadaigua lake is gorgeous too and it's a Robert Trent Jones course. Thise are 2 of my favorites within an hour drive of Bath. Bath Country Club is a great course, so is Willow Creek In Big Flats(Elmira). All are public.

I like all four of these courses. The harbor and resevoir creek you can not walk though. If you did you would feel it the next day. Willow creek is one of the courses used in the twin tiers tourney. It is tight but if you hit it strait most of the greens are pretty flat so there is a lot of scoring opps.

Some I play which I think others would enjoy: Mark Twain, Soaring eagles, Links at Hiawatha, Trumansburg, Ravenwood, Corning CC and Cobblestone Creek cc

Another good point. I believe a course has to be walkable to be truly great. That's one of the reasons I would never join Mill Creek... almost impossible to walk. I've walked Bristol and Reservoir and both are beautiful. I think Penfield CC may be the best deal out there right now.

I have played Corning many times in the member guest. I only use driver on 4 holes. The rest... it is all about accuracy and placement. Many, many, trees to get behind. Might not be the best venue for some who don't play too much.

Yea, it can be tight in spots and depending where the pins are at location in the fairway, it is very important to score. My favorite part about It is that it is always in great shape and the greens roll from an 8 to 10.

Those are the strangest age breakdowns I have ever seen! Are those for real??

Sweet, I'm in. Although I typically never pay for something when I'm doing a story. I'm sure Attica CC would love to have me pump them up on The Batavian. :p

Yup. I'm sure it has to do with having an average member age of 50+ as well as how many morning weekday tee times will be reserved by the average 20-something or 30-something. I welcome the break!!
