Division I

Livonia Bulldogs

Coach- Ray Maxwell (18th season).
Last year- 12-6-2
Key Returners- Dan Mastasio (Sr.); John Conklin (Sr.); Mike Feldman (Jr.); Tommy Etzel (Jr.); Eddie Ewers (Jr.); Chris Bausch (Soph.); Logan Britton (Soph.); Phil Spears (Sr.); Dan Lewis-Rzezutek (Sr.); Kyle Gerould (Sr.).
Top Newcomers- Phil Wallace (Soph.) Mike Pastusec (Soph.) Ryan Smith-GK
(Soph.) Adam Wingate-GK (Jr.) Chuckie D'Imperio (Fresh.); Nick Rucci (Soph.); Dylan Calhoun (Soph.); Josh Walsh-Steines (Soph.); Kyle Ricketts (Jr.); Ryan Lewis (Jr.); Dave Zimmer (Jr.); Cory Streeter (Jr.); Andrew Keller (Jr.); Matt Simpson (Jr.) Coach’s Quote- “We are in a rebuilding phase for the first time. This will be our youngest team ever with only five seniors on the 24-man squad. I think that this group will make steady progress and will be a big surprise. Assistant Coach Steve Ames and myself are very pleased with what we have seen so far and we're optimistic about our chances for a good season.”
LCN Notes- How will the Bulldogs replace Jason Butterbrodt, last year’s LCN Player of the Year and a first team all-state selection at midfield?
Butterbrodt was a mainstay for four consecutive years. This will be a true test of rebuilding for Ray Maxwell and company because this will be the first year in the past 10 years where he hasn’t had one of Section V’s top players on his squad. The seniors Mastasio and Conklin will control the midfield while junior Feldman had some solid minutes as an attacker a year ago. He will get some help from classmate Ewers while sophomores Bausch and Pastusec will need to step it up. The loss of goalkeeper Adam Streeter will hurt as junior Wingate and sophomore Smith vie for the job. Coach Maxwell will have this team playing well by season’s end and don’t be surprised if they make a run at the LCAA title as well.

Dansville Mustangs

Coach- John Skillings (4th season)
Last year- 1-15-2
Key Returners- Steve Barton (Sr., sweeper); Jim Bradley (Jr., keeper); Justin Lathrop (Jr., stopper); William DeMuth (Sr., middie); Jon Federico (Sr., stopper); Pat Flaherty (Sr., defense); Eric Helrich (Sr., defense); Adam Leven (Sr., keeper); Ben Olson (Sr., middie); Justin Seward (Sr., defense).
Top Newcomers- Max Koch (Soph., forward); Tom Wittig (Jr., forward); Brad Campbell (Soph., defense); Sean SMith (Jr., defense).
Coach’s Quote- “We’re hoping for a .500 season which would be a real success in our division.”
LCN Notes- The Mustangs’ defense could be their bread and butter as seniors Barton and Lathrop give them a nice sweeper-stopper combination to protect junior keeper Bradley, who got most of the minutes between the posts a year ago. A youthful offense will have some growing pains with sophomore Koch and junior Wittig getting some valuable attacking minutes. After posting just one victory a year ago, this year’s Mustangs are obviously hoping for better winning numbers.

Bath Rams

Coach- Matt Hill (7th season)
Last year- 11-4-5 (Lost to Hornell in Class BB semis).
Key Returners- Lucas Wales (Sr., Midfielder); Justin Brown (Sr.,
Forward) Nick Badaeu (Sr., Defender); Kevin Desrosiers (Sr., Defender); Owen Eichensehr (Sr., Midfielder); Jason Carpenter (Jr., Forward); Sam Robbins (Jr., Midfielder); Dylan Wales (Soph., Defender); Jon Smith (Soph., Midfielder); Justin Sherwood (Soph. Midfielder).
Top Newcomers- Reid Gustin (Sr., Defender); Mike Rossi (Jr., Keeper); Luke Ferree (Jr., Defender).
Coach’s Quote- “We hope to be competitive in each game.”
LCN Notes- A tough 1-0 setback to Hornell in last year’s Class BB semifinals was a tough pill to swallow for a team that captured 11 games a season ago playing in the rugged LCAA D-I. The senior Lucas Wales and classmate Eichensehr give the Rams some solid midfield play while senior Brown and junior Carpenter should provide some scoring punch. The Rams’
defense has the ability to play well with Badeau, Desrosiers, Dylan Wales and newcomer Gustin helping the cause. Look for a solid season out of junior Rossi between the posts.

Hornell Raiders

Coach- Jim Tobin
Last year- 15-4-2 (Class BB sectional champions) Key Returners- Steve Smith (Sr., striker); Zach Haynes (Sr., midfield); Kyle Binder (Sr., midfield); Kyle Murphy (Jr., midfield); Jordan Blades (Sr., defender); Colin Vance (Sr., defender); Joe Mauro (Jr., defender); Aidan Shaw (Sr., defender).
Top Newcomers- Kevin McAllister (Soph., goalie); Garth Brungard (Fresh., midfield).
Coach’s Quote- “I feel the Division I race will once again be up for grabs. HF-L returns some good quality players from last year. Livonia and Bath should be right near the top. Both Dansville and Way-Co will cause a lot of problems for the rest of the league. With hard work, we should be very successful this season.”
LCN Notes- This program knows how to win evidence last year when they made it all the way to the Western Regionals, this coming after grabbing the Class BB sectional crown. Look for a big year out of Smith, he’s as good a striker as the league has. It’s not often that coach Tobin brings up a freshman so look for some good things out of Brungard at the attack position. A solid midfield with Haynes, Binder and Murphy should also help the cause. The defense will be anchored by seniors Blades, Vance, Mauro and Shaw. Sophomore McAllister will get the nod at keeper. Tobin and company have good numbers so look for this program to remain one of the best in Section V for years to come.

Way-Co Golden Eagles

Coach- Matt Bondgren
Last year- 6-13
Key Returners- Trevor Rowley (Sr., Goalie); Josh Wagner (Jr., Midfielder); Kyle Saxton (Sr., Forward); Owen Peaty (Sr., Defense); Lee Geiselmann (Sr., Middie); Kyle Covert (Sr., Middie); Nick Becker (Sr., Defense); Sam Wallace (Sr., Defense); Sean Schubmehl (Sr., Attack).
Top Newcomers- Josh Pfuntner (Jr., Attack); Alex Gray (Jr. , Attack); T.J. Reynolds (Jr., Def); Matt Candie (Jr., Def); Kyle Deleo (Jr., Attack); Justin Abbey (Jr., Def); Ken Mark (Soph., Middie); Ray Thielges (Sr., Def).
Coach’s Quote- “Many of these kids have a nose for the net and I believe the more chances they get, the more they'll improve. On defense, I know we can be strong — the question will be how well can we handle things in game situations. That will be a big part of our improvement process.”
LCN Notes- With 17 kids on the roster, staying healthy will be a factor.
Solid defense will help the cause as senior Rowley showed signs of excellence a season ago. He will get help guarding the posts by seniors Peaty, Becker and Wallace along with juniors Reynolds and Candie. Senior Saxton and Schubmehl are the lone experienced attackers back so newcomer juniors Pfuntner and Gray will hope to help ignite a spark up front.
Coach Bondgren's boys certainly face some tough tests during the regular season with physical teams like HF-L, Hornell and Bath.

HF-L Cougars

Coach- Mike Merrill (2nd season)
Last year- 15-4-1 (LCAA D-I champs; Class A semifinalists).
Key Returners- Tonio Pugliese (Sr., sweeper, defense); Chip Day (Sr., striker); Justin Allan (Sr., midfield); Evan Fullerton (Sr., midfield, striker); Jared Coates (Sr., goalie); Kevin McNamara (Sr., defense); Jordan Reakes (Sr., midfield); Jared Buschang (Sr., midfield); Mike Trinidad (Jr., midfield); Zac Putnam (Jr., defense).
Coach’s Quote- “We lost a number of valuable players from last year's team but will hopefully have a number of senior players who will fill these roles successfully.”
LCN Notes- Coach Merrill returns for his second season after leading the Cougars to 15 wins during his inaugural campaign. The defense should be tough again as Pugliese is a solid sweeper with help from junior Putnam keeping things easy on senior keeper Coates. Plenty of scoring power will help out as Day, a senior striker, can light it up as can classmate Fullerton, who will play striker and midfield. Allan is also tough in the middle. This is a very experienced team with no sophomores on the roster.

Metcalf Predictions- 1) HF-L; 2) Hornell; 3) Livonia; 4) Bath; 5) Dansville; 6) Way-Co

Division II

Letchworth Indians

Coach- Tim Eustace (12th season)
Last year- 9-9-2 (Lost to Holley in Class CC quarters) Key Returners- Brent Owens (Sr., For); Austin Kelly (Sr., Def); Pat Pankow (Sr., def); Ben Stanford (Sr., def); Ryan Andrews (Sr., def).
Top Newcomers- Tom Shelnut (Jr., Defender); Andy Vanderploeg (Soph., Forward).
Coach’s Quote- “We have a young team this year but the players we have are skilled and love to compete. We’re looking forward to the challenge of Division II Livingston County soccer in ‘07.”
LCN Notes- A 2-1 overtime loss to eventual champion Holley in the Class CC title game shows how solid last year’s Indians were at times. A ton of talent has graduated leaving a void in experience. The senior Owens is a talented midfielder who brings size and athleticism to the middle of the field. Coach Eustace calls him “an unusual force on the soccer field.” Senior Kelly is an explosive and athletic defender while newcomer junior Shelnut will add some speed to the defense. Sophomore Vanderploeg will get some minutes up front to help lighten the load on Owens.

Pavilion Gophers

Coach- Matt Roth (4th season)
Last year- 14-5-1 (Lost in the Class C finals to Wheatland Chili).
Key Returners- Travis Swede (Jr., Goalie); Austin Moag (Sr., Sweeper); Mike Hackett (Sr., Midfielder); Ted Johnson (Sr., Forward); Ben Welch (Sr., Fullback); Ben Stauber (Sr., Midfielder).
Top Newcomers- Eli Blond (Sr., Fullback); Kevin Green (Sr., Fullback); Richie Sepor (Jr., Fullback); Rob Sprague (Jr., Forward); Keith Clark (Soph., Midfielder).
Coach’s Quote- “As with any season we will be working to make a run in sectionals. Coming off last season’s finals the boys are excited and working hard to try to get back and more importantly win that final contest. We have a lot of work to do but I think the group of athletes and the toughness of our schedule will get us ready for sectionals.”
LCN Notes- Last year’s run to the Class C title game was a memorable one. And with several players returning, this year’s title game could have a different outcome. But first things first. Pavilion will have to replace more than half of their goals from a year ago, lost to graduation with Zach Elliott and Rob Curry. Look for Hackett and Johnson to step in and get the job done. Johnson tallied 12 goals a year ago, with several of those coming in crunch time of big games. Sprague will add speed to the front line with great skills to set up his teammates.
Swede and Moag return to a defense that allowed just 22 goals in 21 games with 10 of those goals coming in two separate games. Moag, who is an intelligent defender, will be the team captain. “He has really put a lot of time and effort into taking this program to the next level,” said coach Roth. Senior Green will move from forward to defense to add speed and toughness, while Blond will bring his ball hawking skills to the back line. Junior Sepor will bring athleticism and great ball skills to the stopper position while Novak and Kruppner will be key reserves. Look for this team to make a strong run come November.

Avon Braves

Coach- Adam Colder
Last year- 2-13-3.
Key Returners- Jon Cole (Sr., Midfield); Callen Dalton (Sr., Defense); Cam Hebda (Sr., Midfield); Teddy Halpin (Jr., Striker); Luke Lottes (Sr., Midfield); Matt Turner (Jr., Def); Dan Docherty (Sr., Def); Thomas Wolcott (Sr., Def).
Top Newcomers- Greg Elliott (Sr., Defense); Joe Hollinger (Sr., Kepper); Tyler Kostraba (Sr., Midfield); Pete Stapely (Sr., Striker).
Coach’s Quote- “This is a very hard-working team that accomplishes everything collaboratively. Our captains are Luke Lottes, Jon Cole, and Matt Turner. We plan to be very competitive as each player will pitch in and play their role.”
LCN Notes- Low numbers with only 14 players listed on the roster. The good news however is that 12 of those kids are seniors so experience should be a plus. Both Cole and Lottes will give the midfield a boost while Turner will be a key factor for the Braves’ defense. Hollinger will get the call at keeper. The scoring punch will depend on Halpin.
This is a team that if stays healthy, could triple their win total from a year ago.

Perry Yellowjackets

Coach- Brent Gillett (3rd season).
Last year- 17-2-1 (LCAA D-II champs; Class CC finalists).
Key Returners- Lucas Pachuta, (Jr., forward, 23 goals, 13 assists); Nick Trickett (Sr., midfield); Wes Cox (Jr., midfield); Josh Franclemont (Sr., defender); Sam Vickers (Sr., middie).
Top Newcomers- Brad Collings (Jr., defender); Brandon Paddock (Jr.,
midfielder)
LCN Notes- The Yellowjackets came really close a year ago in capturing all the marbles but they dropped the Class CC title game to Holley in overtime. A fantastic season, one in which saw them win 17 games along with the D-II title, really pumped some life into this program. Coach Gillett is back and so is junior striker Pachuta, who pointed 36 times a year ago, with 23 of those coming on goals. He will be highly guarded by the opposition especially with the loss of Gary Kwiecien (Alfred), last year’s other top gun. But Pachuta is capable of another big season. Look for the midfield to be anchored by seniors Trickett and Vickers, along with junior Cox, all whom saw considerable action a year ago.

Cal-Mum Red Raiders

Coach- Brian McQuillan (6th season)
Last year- 10-7-3 (Lost in Class CC sectional semis to Perry).
Key Returners- Charlie Worl (Sr., Forward); Matt Kooy (Sr., Forward); Chris Roll (Sr., Midfielder); Greg Grattan (Sr., Midfielder); Brian Walker (Sr., Midfielder); Leland Smith (Sr., Midfielder); Andy Spencer (Sr., Defender); Ben Sperr (Sr., Defender); Joe Shaffer (Sr., Defender); Jordan Vokes (Sr., Goalkeeper).
Top Newcomers- Chris Terborg (Jr., Defender); Cory Sisson (Jr., Midfielder); Matt Heins (Jr., Midfielder); Kyle Bopp (Jr., Midfielder); Steve Fuhry (Jr., Midfielder); Jordan Wyble (Jr., Forward); Wilmont Thompson (Jr., Forward); Ben Little (Jr., Defender); Jamie Kemnitz (Jr., Defender).
Coach’s Quote- “We have a solid core of returning seniors who are hungry to get playing. They have a very strong work-ethic and are providing good leadership so far in the preseason. If we can continue to build on a very positive team atmosphere, it should be a fun and exciting soccer season.”
LCN Notes- The Red Raiders’ sectional hopes were darkened a year ago with a tough 2-1 sectional semi loss to Perry. Hopefully that will motivate this year’s group. Cal-Mum returns seven starters from last year's team including defenders Spencer, Sperr, Grattan, and Shaffer.
Add that to returning senior midfielders Roll, Walker, and Smith and the Red Raiders will look to shut down the opposition in front of senior keeper Vokes. The senior Worl was an LCAA selection a year ago after scoring seven goals with six assists. He will get help from senior Kooy.
Senior classmates Roll and Spencer were both honorable mention picks and they will be counted on again. Last year, the Raiders solid team defense allowed just 24 goals in 20 games. Newcomers Terborg and Sisson will look to contribute as part of a solid group of juniors. Look for this team to make a run at the LCAA D-II title.

Metcalf Predictions- 1) Cal-Mum; 2) Pavilion; 3) Perry; 4) Letchworth;
5) Le Roy; 6) Avon

Division III

Keshequa Indians

Coach- Ron Macomber (14th season)
Last year- 17-2 (LCAA D-III champs; Lost in Class C semis to Pavilion).
Key Returners- Jake Dale (Sr., middie); Eric Howard (Sr., middie); Tim Rymer (Sr., middie); Laurie Rich (Sr., middie); Dominic Flint (Sr., defense); John Johnson (Sr., defense); Brandon Schrier (Sr., defense); Nick Shute (Sr., keeper); Travis Flint (Jr., attack); Dustin Rook (Sr., defense).
Top Newcomers- Pat Mattle (Jr., defense); Matt Moran (Jr., middie); Brian Gordinier (Jr., middie).
Coach’s Quote- “We have eight returning starters from last year's team.
Our schedule this year is tough. With some hard work and improvement we should be able to make a run at sectional time.”
LCN Notes- The four-time defending LCAA D-III champions will most likely make it a five-for as they return a host of veteran seniors. This will be a well-seasoned group who has played plenty of soccer together. Look for a big scoring season out of the junior Travis Flint while a capable midfield consisting of seniors Dale, Howard, Rymer and Rich will be a bonus. The defense will be the mainstay with Dom Flint, John Johnson, Schrier and Rook. Solid keeping duties by Schute is expected. This program never seems to get a break come sectional time, but this is a group that can overcome adversity and win it all.

York Golden Knights

Coach- Mike Valentino (1st season).
Last Season- 4-13-1
Key Returners- Mike Cicero (Sr., Goalie/Defense); Shane Kellogg (Jr., Midfielder); Clay Richenberg (Jr., Forward); Kyle Barber (Soph., Midfielder).
Top Newcomers- Nick Easton (Jr., Midfielder); Matt Creamer (Jr., Forward); Alex Hillyard (Jr., Midfielder); Sean Kaiser (Jr.); Simon Krauss (Jr., Defense); Jake Lippold (Jr., Midfielder); Trevor Peglowski (Jr., Defense); Eric Schirmer (Jr., Midfielder); Eric Valentino (Jr., Defense/Midfielder); Luke Dougal (Soph.); Chas Streb (Soph., Defense/Midfielder).
Coach’s Quote- “We have an extremely young team this year. With only four returning players, we will be inexperienced at many positions at the varsity level. Despite our lack of experience, I am very happy and excited with the team that we have. The boys are skilled and have put in a lot of work in the off-season. If they play intelligent team soccer, they should be able to compete not only in the league, but in sectionals as well.”
LCN Notes- First year coach Valentino is optimistic about the 2007 fall campaign. Cicero is the only senior returner with any experience at all.
Juniors Kellogg and Richenberg also return after supplying minutes a year ago. The biggest question mark will be experience, but if this team can find their identity early in the season, their confidence will grow throughout.

Geneseo Blue Devils

Coach- Chris Masters (7th season)
Last year- 10-8-2 (Lost to Keshequa in Class C quarters).
Key Returners- Jon Miskell (Sr., Sweeper); Jake Caplan (Jr., Forward); John Fayiah (Jr., Midfielder).
Top Newcomers- Andrew Congdon (Sr., Keeper); Kris Peterson (Jr., Keeper); Mel Rodgers (Soph., Forward); Elvin Johinson (Fresh., Forward); James Fayiah (Jr.,Midfielder).
Coach’s Quote- “With two returning starters the team will begin the season with a fresh new look. However, some top newcomers look to add some challenges for opponents this fall. This team has great potential if they can play together and be tough on both sides of the ball.”
LCN Notes- Last year’s team was met with high expectations but a subpar
10-8-2 season wasn’t what they had hoped for. With several players from that team now graduated, the expectations aren’t as high so that might be a good thing. Senior Miskell is a capable sweeper on defense. He will need to help out the newcomers to make things easy on keepers Congdon and Peterson. Caplan has the skills to be a solid scorer and he will get help from Rodgers and Johinson up front. John Fayiah is an athletic talent and he will give the midfield a spark along with brother James Fayiah. This team could surprise.

Mount Morris Blue Devils

Coach- Todd Fowler (1st season).
Last Year- 2-14-3
Key Returners- Ken Kelley (Sr., Midfielder); Andy Polito (Sr., Forward); Matt Lonaco (Sr., Defender); Cameron Hill (Sr., Defender); Brandon Smith (Sr., Goalie); Luke Berry(Sr., Forward); Ethan Cipriano(Sr., Forward).
Top Newcomers- Adam Pagano (Jr., Def); Jeff Olverd (Jr., Def); Dalton Smith (Jr., Mid); Ryan Kovacs (Jr., Mid); Kevin Mancini (Jr., Def); Tim Greig (Jr.,Mid).
Coach’s Quote- “Mount Morris has had a tough couple of years. This year’s team is looking to turn things around. Both the kids and myself know that it isn’t an overnight process. But with hard work, sportsmanship, dedication and staying healthy is a start. What we are trying to do is develop a winning attitude along with competitive soccer. The team has set some goals. They want to compete for the Division III title; participate in sectionals, and most importantly bring respect back to the program that has fallen off in the years.”
LCN Notes- First year coach Fowler is hoping to get the Mount Morris boys’ soccer program back to the glory days. But he knows rebuilding this mess won’t be easy. The last few years have been more than tough for the Blue Devils. Seniors Kelley and Polito will most likely lead the way in the scoring department. Classmates Lonaco and Hill will anchor the defense. Look for a solid season between the posts from senior Smith. Those five seniors should be able to give the Blue Devils the leadership they need.

Metcalf Predictions- 1) Keshequa; 2) Geneseo; 3) York; 4) Mount Morris;
5) Warsaw

Livonia Bulldogs

Coach- Ray Maxwell (18th season).
Last year- 12-6-2
Key Returners- Dan Mastasio (Sr.); John Conklin (Sr.); Mike Feldman (Jr.); Tommy Etzel (Jr.); Eddie Ewers (Jr.); Chris Bausch (Soph.); Logan Britton (Soph.); Phil Spears (Sr.); Dan Lewis-Rzezutek (Sr.); Kyle Gerould (Sr.).
Top Newcomers- Phil Wallace (Soph.) Mike Pastusec (Soph.) Ryan Smith-GK
(Soph.) Adam Wingate-GK (Jr.) Chuckie D'Imperio (Fresh.); Nick Rucci (Soph.); Dylan Calhoun (Soph.); Josh Walsh-Steines (Soph.); Kyle Ricketts (Jr.); Ryan Lewis (Jr.); Dave Zimmer (Jr.); Cory Streeter (Jr.); Andrew Keller (Jr.); Matt Simpson (Jr.) Coach’s Quote- “We are in a rebuilding phase for the first time. Mastasio really matured over the summer. Look for him to take on a leadership role. He'll never shy away from a 50-50 situation and he gained a much better understanding of position off the ball.

The real key to this team will be the development of Sophomore Mel Rodgers. John Fayiah is known to most coaches and they'll be looking to stop him, but Rodgers is very quick and talented with the ball. If he can learn to be a little more effective with his talent it'll go a long way towards winning games for Geneseo.
