I always enjoy the offseason in the Nfl. You have free agent signing's, the scouting combine, the draft, and training camp.

Talk it up!

I think this off season will tell a lot about the Eagles and how they are planning to move forward. If they get a legitimate no. 1 receiver like Boldin or Tony Gonzalez it shows they are thinking of winning next year. If not, I think you may start to see a decline in the organization.

I am an NFL junky as you all know.
The next big thing is the combine, and now I have NFL Network so I can watch it!!!!!! There is where the real draft boards will be determined. Then as we approach the draft you will start seeing some trades being made and the big free agents going off the board. The days before the draft are usually crazy with rumors and trade talk.
Then there is the draft weekend. I don't miss a pick.
Right away they get the rookies out there working in offseason drills and the rest of free agency before the offseason starts.

I will know everything about the draft by the time it is here and will be doing a preview of the Buffalo Bills draft on The Batavian, as well as following each pick the team makes. I will be doing live updates on the Web site.

I agree wholeheartedly. The combine has taken such importance because the NFL coaches think so highly of themselve and think the can turn athleticism and speed into a great football player. One place I will give New England credit...they know how to pick good fOOTBALL players!

A good move, but I wouldn't write him off for next year just yet.

If this does happen what a disaster that move is for the Jets. They gave up a pick for Favre to get them to the postseason, and he got them no where. Also, they gave up Chad Pennington on wavers and he leads the Dolphins to the playoffs. Now Favre retires after one season.

The Jets didn't know Pennington was going to have that good of a year. Any team in need of a QB would of taken Favre.

Why did he even bother coming back this year...its about damn time.

And if anyone tries arguing with me, please dont bring up "but he made the pro bowl." Because the probowl in a complete joke. How else does a Bills offensive lineman, Brett Favre, and many players make it?

I'm a big Favre fan, but I don't buy this one. I really think when he decided to come back he believe the Packers would just be falling on himself to have him back. When they weren't and he went to the Jets I think he was a little shocked. He played valiantly this year, not well down the stretch but valiantly. I am glad he is retiring now. The Jets are the biggest losers here.

You are right. 40's only give you a piece of what an athlete can do, but the NFL uses it as a major barometer of talent/skill. I was watching ESPN this morning and a kid ( Darius Hayward or something like that ) ran a 4.26 40 yard dash. He then turned around and ran a 4.27... so it was legit. The kid who finished behind him ran a 4.29. That's sick fast....

I agree on the 40 times, I think way to much value is placed on those. I bet Emmitt Smith's 40 time wasn't that impressive, he turned out alright. I do think when it is all said and done the guys form Missourri Macklin I think is his name, will end up being one of the better WR's of recent memory.

When they find a test to measure disipline, determination and heart these NFL teams will start to consistantly find solid football players. Most teams spend their high picks on athletes instead of football players. Every year we talk about some kids from later rounds that make immediate impacts for their teams. No surprise, those kids were just football players not the best athletes so to speak. I have always said that if you give me 11 FOOTBALL players I will beat 11 ATHLETIC specimens every time. Obviously a combination of both is the jackpot, hence the NFL Hall of Fame.

Not many teams will need him at the #1 reciever slot which he still covets. The only team that needs a #1 and loves older stars is the Raiders. I don't know if they can afford him, they have plenty of salary cap issues.

Nothing like 100 million for a career 24 sacks and never playing a full season. If he mirrors the seven years he already played with these seven years he just signed for it'll look like this:

4.17 million per sack

369K a tackle

1.35 million per start (played but did not start in 16 additional games)

Sounds like a deal. I am sure he will win the Redskins many Super Bowls.

Anyone notice that Julius Peppers was tagged and his cost to be tagged was about 16million? Holy crap DE's make way too much. What is wrong with our world.

boobiemiles

I would NEVER pay anybody with Haynesworth's resume that money.

The only instance would be if I were a very good team thats one player from going to the super bowl. And NO DT is that big of an impact player.

He's just too old. He's a lazy player coming off a contract year. The first two years in a big 7 year deal are honeymoon years. He's injury prone. He's OLD.

Now, Bart Scott is an excellent pickup.

Easy with the "old" usage, it makes my back sore and my knee lock up.

Owners and general managers sometimes pay for "potential" not the actual worth of a player. Potentially, Haynesworth could be a huge part of the Redskins defense. His track record says differently. Snyder has been known to just throw money at players to sign them quickly. It's like he is afraid they will say no. He probably took a call girl to his prom so he didn't have worry about asking a girl out and getting rejected.

Paying Tim Connolly 3.5M a year dispite is injury probs is "potential".....paying a 350lb man who can never stay healthy (and his weight is prob part of the reason) over 14M a year is just retarded. I am sorry could not think of a good NFL player to make that comparision to. Tim is so just skilled he was the first person who came to mind.

And to Boobie's point, for a DT? Really? I am sorry but, in my opinion, the two best players in the league are Manning and Brady and all of these HUGE DT's and DE's make more than them? The other thing too, not much with DE but more with DT.....good or great DT's are not hard to get in the draft. Look at what NE and NYG and TN and BALT (all teams who have usually good D's) do every draft - they draft the biggest/nastiest/crazy guys they can find in the first couple rounds of the draft and usually within the first year they are starters.

It amazes me these GM's spend so much money on FA's. These are rich successful people yet they are some of the dumbest arounds. For the most part, the teams who have won SB's in the recent past - all built through the draft. It's drafting and trades, not FA's, that make a team a winning team.

He'll do good there. Like I said earlier. I see them in the playoffs in two or three years.

And to M0Rocco's point. I AGREE!! The NFL has undergone this great revolution where they are now hiring young coaches that have unlimited potential. If you notice, Herm Edwards doesn't have a job anywhere. If this were the old NFL he would be the first one rehired. But something that still hasn't happened is that they are still throwing money at guys who are entering the second half of their career. Why? Especially when it's not a skill position. I can understand giving an old quarterback money because you have seen what they can do, last year. But why Haynesworth? That just doesn't make sense.

Are you sure about the Redskins. SI.com said that the Redskins were interested in T.O. and that T.O. would probably go there to get revenge on the Cowboys.

Glad the Cowboys got rid of that guy, all he is is a cancer. Good luck Buffalo, wish you all the best eventhough you won't get it with TO.

I think they just got him to sell more tickets because selling more tickets=more money and more money=staying in Buffalo haha. Plus he's good.

General ticket sales aren't nearly as big as it is lived up to be.
