Section V is going to host the state meet for outdoor track in 2011. Where does everyone think this meet will be held?

Not unless they redo our field event runways lol. Does anyone think that a school with an older track due for repairs will get those repairs done in hopes of having States be there? Cal-Mum and Marion both had new tracks last year and they were good tracks but small towns with nowhere to stay for all the other sections. Also by 2011 those tracks won't be brand new anymore.

No. Indoor is held at Cornell University. Outdoor last year was at UB. Outdoor this year is at Cicero-North Syracus High School. It is usually a mixture.

That's why I think it will be a Monroe County school or a college. It has to be a school that is big enough to accomodate everyone and you also have to think about where the kids coming from different sections will stay for the weekend.

I was reading through Hilton's invite info and it seems like they have a nice track.
8 lane track, 4 LJ/TJ pits, 2 SP areas, 1 dicus area, 2 HJ areas, 2 PV areas

Also, what about Waterloo? Didn't they build a new athletic complex?

Hosting invites is fun but it is also a lot of work if you want the meet to run efficiently.

The last state meet for section V was I think at Rush-Henrietta.
I don't know if section V opens it up for schools to express interest or if they just pick a place somehow. I know some coaches would like to host a huge meet and make some money on concessions! That could pay for all of the bus trips.

Yes, RH held States in 1992 I believe. Also, from the section V track website, it sounds like they are opening it up to anyone who wants it and they will vote from there.

Yeah, you'd pretty much need to have an 8 lane track in order to host it. Also, like I said, you'd need to have the facilities to do it. You must have parking, you must have concessions or somewhere in town to go eat (not a problem for most schools), and you must have a nearby spot for the out of town athletes to stay. That's why I think it'll either be at RIT or a big Monroe County school.

So is it just every 11 years that it's as Section 5?

On a side note. I know that the state meet usually interferes with some proms. So it can help Section 5 athletes get to prom in time. Maybe that's another way you can look at it?

Pretty much make sure you have the facilities and parking taking care of and let the officials and coordinators run it.

It causes you to make a 90 degree turn taking all your momentum away making it nearly impossible to totally clear the water.

Yeah I could see that. You can't really come off fast because you have to turn or you will hit the fence. I think I have seen some actually take the jump at an angle instead of head on to make a better recovery.

Here is a short list (there are probably a bunch I didn't mention that should be). Keep in mind there are some minimum criteria that state meet commitees look at including: Track Facilities (need multiple field event areas and perhaps extra for pent events), hotels/housing, other facilities (including bathrooms - large indoor areas for rain delays etc), Seating for spectators, Parking - other space for vendors, awards etc.

Brockport State
RH
Hilton
Marion (not sure about hotels ... anyone help me here?)
HFL
Victor - if the new track has two vaulting areas
Cal Mum??? don't know much about it, but I have heard good things
RIT
Roberts Wesleyan

others?

Marion and Cal-Mum both have new tracks and they are very nice. However, Cal-Mum is a very small school and there is no housing/hotels anywhere nearby. The athletes would have to travel to Rochester or Batavia to find somewhere to stay. Marion is in the same situation. I don't know where the nearest hotel to Marion is however.

I didn't even think about Roberts or Brockport St. The track at Roberts is very nice and they will also have no problem with facilities/parking.

I still think first shot would be at a HS and not a college. Right you would have to go to penfield or webster from Marion for hotels.

I would bet Victor would be in line for it. Isn't penfield getting a new track also?

So Victor or penfield for states 2011.

I would count Webster out because they only have one Pole Vault and one High Jump (states won't jump off of the Tennis courts). Everything else would work. Penn Yan only has one pole vault area too.

Does anyone know if the new Victor Track has 2 pole vaults or a place for the second high jump (other than tennis courts)?

Below is the state meet results (2002) for the steeplechase @ Rush-Henrietta, pretty impressive times. That is East High's Brady Ferguson with a 9:19, the Section V record before Bateman broke it a couple of years ago at St Lawrence University. The whole outside steeple, slowing down thing is a myth. There are plenty of tracks with an outside steeple that are fast. Its just like you guys sqawking about how slow U of R is, you get it in your head and you're already half beaten.

No, we are talking about if the actual water pit is located on the inside (inside lane 1) or outside (outside lane 8) on the track.

Henrietta's steeple, and apparently a few others, is located outside lane 8 just past the start finish line which gives you a weird turn just before you hit the barrier. Dansville's is located inside lane 1 on the back turn of the track which lets you attack the barrier from straight on.

Probably any place with atleast an 8+ lane track. I wish it was at Batavia, but that wont happen.

RIT would be best I think.

we don't even have enough parking for modified meets let alone a state meet haha

Oh don't even get me started on Batavia's parking. It has to be the worst spot in Section V to find a parking spot. When I went to the LeRoy football game there I had to park like a mile away.

haha you have to know someone who lives near the stadium to get a good parking spot

Did you get there like 3 hours before hand, and was it a big event?

I got there in the middle of the Batavia Track Invite and I parked directly across from the mens bathroom.

The worst is when something is going on at ND at the same time. If there is is a thing at ND and at Van Detta..forget about it you myswell walk from home.

ND always has the worst parking. I always just park in the little bus uturn across the street but sometimes you have to park like 6 streets down.

Going back a few pages. A steeple pit on the outside of the track is inconvenient because your splits don't mean anything when they're all out of sinc and then finishing on the back stretch is just weird.
