That's got to be a great job working for maxpreps, almost like working for ESPN! I've been a big fan and booster for maxpreps since the 2005 season. What a great website for promoting high school sports and their polls are the most accurate.

Excellent, thanks for the heads up on the churchville chili/marshall gallery. That game was alot closer than it seemed. CC's Matt Szczupakowski was a huge factor in that game, with his kicking, timely passing, timely bootlegs and as a field general. The Saints defense wore the Jurists down.

Job satisfaction and the people you work with trump money in my own experience. If only I were younger and I didn't have to help my sons with college, I'd be doing what you're doing!

I have to agree with Dan on this one, Bath has a larger margin of victory to this point in the season, they have beaten an A school and Hornell has only beaten B or C schools to this point. The rankings don't make any sense in that scenario. This is not reflective on Hornell because Hornell is playing that same A school this week but up to week 4 Bath should be ranked higher just based on the numbers.

Good points and questions by all! I just emailed Maxpreps Northeast Regional Manager Vin Iovino and asked him to get someone at Maxpreps that could explain their ranking systems post to this discussion, to answer our questions and clear things up.

Hopefully, someone from Maxpreps will come onboard and join in. I've emailed them in the past with questions and concerns and they usually have someone get back to me.

Another great week of Section V High School football! Churchville Chili dropped to number 2 despite winning their matchup against Hilton, 36-24. Gates-Chili moved up one spot in the rankings with their win against Pittsford, 27-14. Aquinas also dropped a spot in the rankings despite their win against St. Josephs of Buffalo, 27-0. Here's the latest Maxpreps New York Top 10 that was posted on 10/8/2007. Gates Chili is now number 2, Churchville Chili is number 3 and Aquinas stays at number 5. It's pretty impressive having 3 Section V teams in the top 5 of the state! Canandaigua moved up to number 8 and Rush Henrietta stays at number 9. Section V has some great football and having 5 teams in the NY Top 10 proves how good football is around here!

The Section V Playoffs start this week for Class AAA and AA teams. Gates Chili plays Edison, Churchville Chili plays Marshall yet again, Canandaigua plays Brockport and Rush Henrietta plays Penfield. Aquinas finishes up their regular season against Union-Endicott.

MaxPreps has put G-C at #24 nationally. In the article all the local heads dump their trash on the notion.

On a side note, I didn't realize John Moriello is a Gates resident.

From that quote that you cite, I sense that there's some animosity as well as some arrogance on the part of the NYSSA towards Maxpreps. I did like what the Gate-Chili AD had to say:

"This is great for the kids," said Gates Chili athletic director Chris Hodge, "but realistically we know, at this point in the season and based on our state, we're probably not one of the top 25 teams in the nation. It's still great recognition for upstate New York."

It's better to downplay the ranking issue.

Wow, John didn't mince any words, did he! :)

There's another guy from Maxpreps that I've been corresponding with. I've been sending him the weekly playoff and pool-play schedules so Maxpreps can update their site for Section V football teams. I filled him in on the D&C article and also pointed him to John's blog entry and also to this blog discussion. We'll see if anybody comes forward to defend Maxpreps (besides me! :) ).

Aquinas climbs to number 1 in New York State after their convincing 28-0 win over Victor. It should be a great game at Paetec this weekend when Aquinas plays Eastridge, the Maxpreps number 16 team in New York State, for the Section V, Class A Championship. Expect some offensive fireworks for that game!

Canandaigua moves up a spot to number 3 after a convincing 42-21 win over a tough Marshall squad. Canandaigua plays Rush-Henrietta in the states play-in game this weekend. Rush Henrietta also moves up a spot in the rankings to number 4 after avenging an early season loss to Gates-Chili, coming back in a last second, 38-35 victory over the previously undefeated Spartans! Gates-Chili falls to number 5 in the rankings. Gates-Chili finishes off their season with and 8-1 record.

The Churchville Chili Saints closed out their season with a 34-7 win over Brockport in a pool-play game and finish their season with an 8-1 record. The Saints moved up 9 spots in the rankings to number 11.
