Is this where the teams are actually ranked in the state after week 2, or just where everyone ended up last week?...explain

The teams who've yet to play but are ranked is based on their success last season and their overall reputation as a football program.

The Rankings came out yesterday and I posted them as soon as I got them in my mailbox, the new rankings will come out every Wednesday.

I think the Maxpreps system of rankings is the most accurate. It's based on the Calpreps standards that were developed by Ned Freeman. The New York State Sportswriters Association poll biases it's rankings by reputation of programs, whereas the Maxpreps system ranks teams soley on their record and strength of schedule. MaxPreps National and State Power Ratings are the result of our collection of enormous amounts of information from teams throughout the country and the application of a computer model developed by our associate Ned Freeman. The most important thing to understand about how the ratings system works is that it is 100% objective.

The size of the schools, their division, the league they're in, how good the school or league are historically, their geographic location, how well liked the school is, how good the league is in other sports do not matter and therefore, none of these factors are programmed into the system. Those subjective factors inevitably bias humans saddled with the daunting task of trying to figure out who the best teams in the nation, in a state, or a region really are?

Instead, Ned's system just takes into account the facts. Cold, hard, and unfeeling fact - but as accurate, objective and fair as possible.

HOW IT WORKS!
(A brief explanation of the factors that affect the MaxPreps Rankings system...)

MaxPreps uses a computer program to determine team rank. We do not poll coaches, sportswriters, or fans. Nor does our staff make any judgments on the merits of any individual team. Prior season history, school size, and comments on message boards are not considered in the MaxPreps rankings.

The system utilizes the huge number of game results stored in the MaxPreps database. Generally, the more a team wins the higher the ranking, but the system takes into account quality wins (against other highly ranked opponents) and strength of schedule.
For example, a team's ranking is hurt more by losing to a team that is ranked below them verses a team ranked ahead.

Other factors that will affect the rankings are times when MaxPreps has incomplete or inaccurate information. We will correct errors when they are reported to us. If we are missing a score, report it to us on the team's MaxPreps page. If we are missing a game on the schedule, send us a correction request.

Generally, the more games that are played the more accurate the rankings, so if a team that you perceive as being very strong has played substantially fewer games than other ranked teams it may reflect the fact that we have less data to work with.

Playoff games are weighed 2.1 times what a regular season game is.

Movement indicates the up or down movement within the rankings when compared to our previously published rankings.

MaxPreps football rankings are updated once a week, other sports will be updated three times a week during the sport season.

Note: A team must have played three games before they will appear in the rankings.


I may need correcting on this but doesn't Max Preps rankings based on only those teams that have submitted rosters and stats to them and not every team in the State?There are many teams in New York that have chosen not to submit. I know the individual and team player stat rankings are only done on those players whose stats are updated by each team that submitted a roster and not MaxPreps themselves.I believe it only includes teams that choose to be in MaxPreps database.Either way,it sounds better than the way they do the AP poll.I have never paid much attention to polls before this year but I have quickly realized that I am not a fan of them.

I may be bias as a Big Bath Rams fan, but I'm a little upset with their #13 ranking, I feel they're far better than #13 and they'll prove that this weekend. A win over Hornell could put them in the top 5 and I'm confident that'll happen.

what does everyone else think? Is Bath better than the #13 ranking the Sportswriters have given them?

I don't know who will win but it should be a great game. How about Livingston County Football having 6 teams ranked in the latest poll. 4 of those teams will be playing each other the next two weeks
Hornell v Bath CM v LeRoy then Bath v CM and Hornell v LeRoy Hopefully they all get through without many injuries for sectional play. Interestingly the much maligned Marcus Whitman team gets an honorable mention.
